If you can't accept the situation then don't log in before the end of the scheduled downtime. Problem solved.
Seriously, what's so bad with bringing a potentially unstable cluster online if the users are aware of what might happen if they log in? If initial (which I'd wager are quite thorough) tests indicate rock-solid performance, shouldn't they open it up?
I for one welcome the opportunity to take care of some non-critical in-station business, but I won't undock within 24 hours no matter how stable the cluster seems. I humbly suggest that you do the same.

Why enable logins before you consider the server to be stable enough for reimbursement claims to be valid? May I remind you that it's not a test server? You're aware that most people don't consider EVE to be a beta version anymore, right?

Its very simple really, they wont know its stable, until WE test it :) Since day one the playerbase has been CCP's QA department in case you haven't noticed.

Just because there is no guarantee of service does not mean that there is no compensation due if the service is not provided.
For example, all airlines have similar clauses about not guaranteeing that a particular flight will be flown. But if they do not provide the booked flight then compensation is due.
And the clauses that some shyster companies try to insert into their contracts saying that no compensation is payable will just be ignored if they ever come before a beak.
I'll send you my paypal address in game. Its nice that you have taken over CCP's liability in this issue.

The 2 last questions were rethorical.
The problem isn't the lack of a QA department (there is one actually), the problem is the lack of bugfixes. It doesn't matter if you make bug reports when known issues aren't dealt with.

I am like thousands of other players - totally addicted to Eve, and while we all try and keep our doubts at bay with regard to stability, extended downtimes and general crappyness - this is now begining to smell like WoW
Has CCP been bought out by WoW, or is it normal for a well run, outstanding and much loved company to go down the road of complete ruin by ignoring its customers, by releasing software / updates and patches when it wants, with no regard to the consquences. I think we have lost nearly a week in 24/7 game play to instability, lagg and crappy responses - but all I ever hear is "Its in the T & C's )
Customers are what keep Eve alive, profitable and enjoyable - CCP need to realise this
This is my opinion only and does not reflect the views of my Corp or Alliance

Edited by: Freaky Bare on 03/01/2007 12:53:14 I am fine with the extended downtime. I am even glad they are covering themselves by saying 12-24 hours. I do not think it is right, however, to tell us 'go ahead and play - but no reimbursements if we mess up.' I don't mine risking a cheap ship if I decide to fly it, but other things could be at risk.
For example: I have some buy/sell orders on the market. If it charges me instead of my client, when they buy something from me - I won't be reimbursed??
I know that sounds unlikely, but what problems ARE likely? This is a hardware update - no patch. So it should be using code that is already working. (for the most part) I know that bugs may come up, but why the extreme policy?
Regarding paying for downtime. We ALL know there is some downtime. It is the same here as for most/all other games. We can choose to accept that as a fact of life ... or we can stop paying for the game. We do not have a clause in our contract with CCP penalizing us for cancelling our subscriptions.
edit: Oh, and never do this on a Thursday - it is my day off! Let us make a list - any days/times that do not work for every single subscriber please remove from your update/patch calender - thanks!

It's a little simplistic to see it that way. First sentence can be understood as: we are fixing problems on the server side so it runs better.
The second is more like: we know some of you will try to connect before the mentioned time and we can't do nothing to stop you, so don't cry later if you miss something.
Regards.

The changes being made are to improve connectivity to the game and improve database performance. No game play changes are being made, nor are any patches being deployed. A patch to address issues, such as the mail notification bug, will be deployed later in the month.
In regards to those voicing concerns about the server being available after the infrastructure upgrade and before the end of the scheduled downtime, they have been noted. If there is a large enough response from the community, I will have the operations team take TQ down for the entire duration of the upgrade and checks. In that case, EVE will be unavailable for the full 24 hours.

No downtime, no patches. And if you don't have patches, you wont get any new content or bugs fixed.
You really can't have the cake and eat it too. Or do you suggest that CCP try to jam all patches into the 1 hour daily downtime, or even have no daily downtime at all?
I know how things work because I'm a programmer, but ... I really don't care about it as long as it happens on a day that I paid for. It's not about the money, it's about respect.

The correct question is:
Can I go back and play EVE the way it was pre-revelations? I'd jump on that in a second.
There are no free packs. Having thousands of paying customers beta test CCPs experiments does not count as a 'free upgrade'. The fact that CCP shoves bugs that have been around for years under the rug and spends time and money on new content is an obvious indication that the real focus is on attracting new customers, not improving the game. ________________
