Please keep this flame-free, as I am only after info/facts, PREFERABLY from IAC themselves.
Not long ago, The Priory, a known hauler-ganking pirate corp who reside in the NPC stations in Curse were members of IAC (I'm not sure if they still are - I cannot log in to check). Now, IAC have called in the big guns of their pirate allies in -A-, who are rumoured to be using IAC to build their capital ships.
Have IAC abandoned a NRDS policy in Catch and adopted a stance of piracy along with the likes of Priory, RAT and -A-? How will this affect docking and travel in the Curse/Catch border for neutrals and newer players who want to check out 0.0 space? Have they turned the area into a no-go zone, regardless of the war going on at present?
Constructive answers would be preferred please.
EDIT: spelling

This is unproductive, you need to get your facts straight and terminology updated.
NBSI in 0.0 isn't commonly referred to as piracy.
To the best of my knowledge, Priory isn't IAC and has in fact been executor of SOD for quite some time. -----

Edited by: DrDevice on 06/01/2007 12:55:44 Is it piracy to defend your own space?
why own the space, if you dont actually own it?
you have to goto the effort and expense of keeping it, why should freeloaders be allowed in to plunder resources, then give nothing in return?
On a tactical front NBSI means hostiles are very easy to spot. running an alliance as NRDS, you find yourself getting shot by randoms all the time, before you get to shoot them. Means they have the upper hand in every combat they come across.
Morally I see why somone might not want to shoot neutrals, its just not very practical, and in my experience get abused more than it is beneficial.
I could talk about spies, alts, etc which is why it is plain stupid in times of war (neutral alt with a cyno generator moving around at will, i think not) but they speak for themselves.
Given the tone of your post, and the very black and white stance, you come across very selfishly, and concentrating on the fact that it will be inconvenient to you. Perhaps it is time to lay claim to a slice of 0.0 for yourself?
in summary: It's not your space, there is a war going on, go there at your peril, its hardly piracy, lol :)

Calling it piracy implies some form of law breaking. There are no laws in 0.0, so it's not piracy, simply a proactive defence.

Sometimes, just existing in 0.0 could be enough to bother someone, what ever their reasons.
If you don't want to get shot, don't come to 0.0. How hard is that?
Especially when Neutrals could be hostile scout alts, NRDS is a ridiculous policy to follow, especially in wartime.

The problem is that you shoot neutrals in other people's territory, and camp it. Now if this isn't piracy, what is?
Piracy is killing ships that belong to others for profit, with no other motive than ganking them for their mods and thrill of the chase. So you may stop with the "there is not law" bs right here and now.

What's so hard to understand... this is a warzone, anyone who was neutral left 3 weeks ago. You are either red, a scout of an enemy, a scout of a friend, or blue.
we have adjusted our policy accordingly for the duration of the war. we are NBSI right now in space that we claim. "If there were more people like us... there'ed be more people like us" |

Hi Stephra,
Thank you for your questions.
Yes, it is true The Priory are a former member corp of the IAC, however I don't believe you have done much research into your question if you believe them to be a 'hauler-ganking pirate corp'.
The Priory are a highly-skilled PvP corp and their alliance Shroud of Darkness is a friendly entity to IAC pilots. The reasons for this friendship are many (I would count a sense of loyalty and respect to their allies high on the list) however it was The Priory's membership and assistance during the IAC's darkest hours of Prohibition I that created the ties you speak of in your post.
It was a clear sign of that respect when The Priory elected to leave IAC ranks voluntarily at the McFix departure. IAC is and always has been the firmest believer in NRDS in its claimed space and it is no secret that this policy would never fit with the desires of The Priory pilots. While our alliances practice a vastly different policy on the treatment of neutrals in 0.0, this has not detracted for the respect we have gained for each other as pilots and players.
Let me also make it perfectly clear to you on our policy. IAC are one of very few alliances that maintain a peace-time policy of NRDS in their space. Our alliance was built on free-space policy, not some cheap attempt at 'neutrality' a.k.a. ISS and their 'hands off/ please dont fight on our doorstep/ its bad for business' approach. IAC claim and defend their space aggressively and in times of peace, this certainly includes the active defense of neutrals travelling through our space. This will not change.
It is only on two occasions that we have had to vary that policy due to large scale conflict, and unfortunately, one of those occasions is now.
I trust you will understand that in a major conflict where Outpost sovereignty and assets are threatened, the casual neutral observer will be classed as unwelcome from all parties to the conflict. Furthermore, due to the varying ownership of Outposts in the region, neutrals can't be guaranteed access to stations for market purposes.
IAC leadership are committed to re-opening IAC space to neutral parties at the earliest opportunity following the resolution of this conflict. I am sure you will find that all alliances blue to IAC, SOD included, will continue to respect IAC policy of NRDS in IAC space. Once we have declared a return to this policy, please feel free to contact myself or Kaylana Syi immediately should you be attacked by any entity in IAC space and the matter will be dealt with.
On a side note, I am quite happy to talk to you about capital production, though your inference regarding -A- seems to imply some sort of underhanded relationship and is quite ignorant tbh. I am sure -A- are quite capable of supplying their alliance needs, as are IAC.
I hope this answers some of your questions? Feel free to convo me in-game if you have any further queries.

IAC are commendable for being one of the few alliances who run a NRDS policy most of the time, however, at a time of war, it is perfectly understandable for them to run NBSI; this risk of npc alt scouts it makes it militarily unfeasible.
I also don't think IAC have ever claimed to be anti-pirate, they just don't pirate themselves. Best advise I can give you is that if you see a big blob of orange on the map, don't go there.

Yea i've been running a noob corps alt (just not in a shuttle) round jzv for months now and not been popped once, ofc these days the alt is rarely found off the bar in g7 while nbsi is in effect, but just to back it up, all in all IAC are bang up straight in not popping any neutrals, course you have to survive the journey there first, and thats a whole different kettle of fish

Spoken honestly, by the former leader of the former pirates that formerly inhabited the space now formally claimed by the Shroud of Darkness.
Yes, Bach my old friend, you may be a pirate if your victim doesn't realise he is a target. However we both know the general travel rules in 0.0 space. In CC's case, tread lightly and carry a cloak
No, Bach, a friendship does not an accomplice make, unless the friend is complicit in deed and design.
