CCP Snorlax wrote:Andrew Xadi wrote:Launcher should be monitoring network status, becouse if you're not connected to the internet and you launch it and then connect, it won't check for version info so you have to reboot it Good point, I've meaning to look into this. I actually get this on my laptop at home sometimes, if the launcher tries to refresh after coming back from sleeping before the WiFi connects.
Probably related, as I had mentioned in a separate thread first: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6214860#post6214860
Though Andrew doesn't mention a dialog popping up;
Quote:With a recent update to the launcher, everytime after I wake up my PC from hibernation, the launcher pops up a "Diagnose network problems" dialog ("An error was encountered while downloading (see log for details). Do you want to run network diagnostics?".
Please make the launcher a bit smarter and not shove this dialog to the top after waking up my pc.

I got a new laptop, and the default and preferred screen resolution is 3200x1800.
The installer window does not size the same way as on my other lower resolution machines. I had used the launcher installer before so I knew what to do, but a new player with this resolution might have problems operating the installer. http://i64.tinypic.com/2afbnso.jpg
When installed the text is so small the launcher is hard to operate. Could the new launcher be enhanced with a setting that automatically or manually via a setting makes everything 2x or 3x bigger on 3200x1800 displays?
Here's what it looks like now:
http://i68.tinypic.com/8wm8mw.jpg
Other web applications like the forums, and Microsoft apps like control panels automatically scale enough that you can read the text.

Try running as administrator - there might be some permission issues.

I've seen that happen 2-3 times during development. It's usually corrected by manually installing the new version. But, 988834 seems to be greatly behind the current release version of 991682.
You can directly download the launcher here: Version 988834: https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-988834.exe
Version 991682: https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-991682.exe
or...You can get the launcher to download the latest development version 991958. It's working fine. |

I was away from eve for 8 days, which might be too much for eve to handle.
As I manually installed version 991958 in first run it automatically updated itself successfully to verion 991682, which is backwards? But at least it seems to run fine now!
But 991682 version still does not detect after launcher restart if there are eve client processes already running. |

That's because you have it set to Release/Beta instead of Development. At the moment, the development version is 992053. |

and you shouldn't be using "dev" version (ever !!)
it is stated as highly experimental and should only be used if asked by the devs. so 991682 is fine.

Running as administrator doesn't help.
Verified cache, stopped launcher, restarted with admin privileges , downloaded the update again, ran the update and the loop is back in place. Filed a bugreport about it but its essentially: 'stuck in a loop'. Same as ^^ Henry Noir

I got out of that loop when I manually installed version 991958 into separate folder and copied characters/setups manually to new folder, try that one. |

No one said that you shouldn't. It is as you said "experimental" and subject to breakage. How else can it be bug-checked? |

Do you have full permissions to the SharedCache folder?
Lastly, you can see in the log (drop-down menu, logging, look for errors) what files it failed to write. See if you can delete those files manually and retry (you can refresh manually from the drop down menu).

Thanks for the tip!
I downloaded https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-991682.exe and installed it over the current version and that worked. So the version it was supposed to install itself.

Greets, CCP!
The green selection and the blue + are cool - clean and crisp.
Past 2 versions have had "permissions writing to cache" would you like to fix, issues. (not this current one TQ 991576 with Launcher 991682, GUI 1.734)

How would one go about installing this on the Steam version of EVE? Can the launcher be replaced or something?

I heard a steam integration was on the way (or something)
BUT you can : remove steam from the picture :)
go there https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/203523662-Setting-an-account-name-for-Accounts-created-through-STEAM and create yourself a nice login/user name
then simply run the launcher and forget steam
That, or wait for an update from Devs about steam (which should come rather fast if I interpreted correctly what was said in this thread) |

Every time I wake my laptop from sleep, the launcher gives an error. Isn't there an API the launcher could call so that it realizes the computer is waking from sleep, wait for the network to come up, and then only present an error if the network fails to come up?
The workaround is to wait for the network and press the [retry] button or quit the launcher and reopen it. |

My account isn't actually a Steam account, I just like to use the Steam version of the game (which I once bought for a second account and Steam cards ). Keeping all my games in one place, it tracks game time and all that jazz. It works fine, except in situations like this where it is apparently a bit restrictive.
