Before anyone says another interceptor just skip it.
I got jumped by a Crow the other day. Just me in my Harbinger and him in the Crow. I had a webber fitted along with two tracking computers and Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beams. Some heat sinks, AB and tank stuff to round that out.
Needless to say he never got within 10km for me to web him and of course I was nowhere near fast enough to close range and use the web. My gunnery skills are very solid albeit not excellent. With my skills and mods and what not he was within range of my guns. As you might expect though I barely every scratched him. My T1 light drones seemed unable to catch him.
Fortunately I had a solid tank on and while I couldn't hurt him he couldn't overcome my tank on his own either. I suspect he either ran out of missiles or got bored and left of his own accord (I was scrambled so couldn't leave).
So after this I was trying to think of ways I could get such a nuisance in the future. Short of Running around in my Crusader I drew a blank.
Are Crows essentially untouchable except by other interceptors? If a Crusader had jumped me I'd have a fair chance since as a gun user he needs to be closer. I thought of EW but while that might make him go away I want to kill him. Fitting small lasers I suppose is an option but sort of ruins the idea of a Battlecruiser.
Doubtless I am missing something...just want to know what it is.

Alternatively, if you're in your harbinger, and in an asteroid belt, sneak between asteroids. He'll have to either drop scram due to range, or lose transversal by sn eaking in with you.
EDIT: Also, t2 lights might be able to scare him.

Maybe try damps to force the Crow to get in close and then scram/web/nos it??.. Though honestly, I don't really think most interceptor pilots would be foolish enough to do that.. Or perhaps use a Prophecy with an Assault Launcher?.. Which would probably gimp your set-up if you went up against anything else..

Depends on the pilot and how its fitted tbh.
If its a pimp crow..ur pretty much dead. Unless he makes a mistake and u can get a web. No matter what ur in..with faction scrams Crow can stay at 25k+
Basically in a Harbinger u cant, unless Crow messes up. As said, there too fast for ur guns and drones.

Too slow. I've seen far too many 10-12km/s Crows in 0.0 to trust my anti-tackler strategy to drones that can't catch them. Missiles are also fast, but again, not fast enough. You need to web them, the only way to do that at the common ranges of engagement is with a Huginn. Paint them when they're MWD'ing and they'll be big as a house (even with a Gistii). Even medium artilleries can hit burtally hard when they can barely move and have a huge sig radius.

Ok, go and test it, get a crow to do a steady orbit you at 18k tell me how many times you hit him.
The guy you engaged must have overshot his orbit and had to come back in at you keeping his transversal low so you could inst pop him, if his transversal is high you will never hit him.

well make sure u use t1 high tracking ammo, if you have an mwd, mwd on the opposite direction that can decrease your transversal as you move the crow have to alter its orbit so then he can make a mistake. Timing can be crucial. launch ur warrior II, but just leave them time the attack order and f1-f8
i have a fitting with mixed heavy pulse and focused pulse due to cpu and grid issues but focused pulse should be able to track better.

i suppose i had luck however the general trick is if a crow's orbitting you just mwd in a direction and the computer will adjust his orbit causing him to fly straight at you for a couple of seconds... 20km scrambler crow is so vulnerable you will nearly instapop him

I think he means the crow was 18km away, not moving at 18k/s. I imagine the guy either turned his MWD off, or changed direction and screwed up his transverse.
425s wont even hit a 'ceptor orbiting at 4k/s, let alone 18k/s.

Realize guns have a chance to hit wrecking. A wrecking will hit no matter what.. no matter how fast he is going.. no matter the range. I have a harpy with a max range of like 30k with a certain ammo, and 5k falloff. I hit a ship at 150 KM before.. should have been 0, but it was a wrecking hit, so it just hit.
Weather by design or bug is another question.

Keep speed, and watch as you outrun his missile explosion velocity, hitting you for 0.4 damage while you hit for full as his transversal is very low mid-chase. Pretty simple actually, as most crows will try and orbit, forcing them into chasing and/or lowering their transversal. -------

Edited by: Hoshi on 17/01/2007 22:47:46 Lets make some assumptions here. Crow, interceptor level 4, gistii mwd give 219m sig radius. Hard to know he orbit speed but unless he had inertial fibers etc I would doubt much higher than 6km/s.
425mm have 0,1056 rad/sec tracking, 0,099 with skills and barrage.
Input into the tracking formula give you around 5% hit chance at 18km if he where going 6km/s, 18% if he where going 4km/s and around 35% if he where going 2km/s.
The numbers above include reducing the hit chance due to range (with max range skills and barrage bonus) as you are deep into falloff at 18km. You can more or less double the numbers above if you don't want to consider range.
Conclusion: He where not orbiting you at speed at the time you activated you guns. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Edited by: Setana Manoro on 17/01/2007 23:07:57 If you are in a MWD Harbinger, then you have a shot at killing him, this way. First load up on T1 range crystals so you don't lose tracking, align to a warpable object and get to full speed. Activate MWD, when he is behind you're ship or close to getting there. This way you turn his orbit into an eclipse as he needs to catch up with you. When he is kitting and transversal is at it's lowest you have a small chance to hit him badly, and that is when you need to fire. Bringing along Warriors II for extra damage at that same moment is not a bad ideea. Basically you force him to react rapidly to the situation and get out of optimal or die. MWD-ing means he has the sig of a cruiser so Warriors should have no problem hitting him too untill he gets out of they're optimal.
I've tried this today on SISI with a Zealot - no drone bay unfortunately, and in 3-4 salvo's the crow was in 80% structure. The Zealot had the advantage of a low mass and good acceleration so it got to 1+ km/s faster then a Harbinger would ever get, but you do have the drone bay on the Harbinger.
Unfortunately if the Crow actually has fitted a Tracking Disruptor, then it sucks because you're pulse's will be much less efficient, even with Radio M.

I don't think that there is a way to do this in a harbinger without making you useless at whatever you were trying to do when you got jumped. Fortunately, the Crow can't kill a harbinger either. Just call in a corp-mate when he starts harassing you.

don't know about a harbringer, but cormorant with 7 125mm's with antimatter, 2 tech II tracking comps, sensor booster ( to have a chance at the pod), a kinetic hardener, and a Mag stab II will ruin just about any intercepters day. you won't get a lot of kills, due to lack of web/scram, but you will royally **** of a lot of crow pilots.

How do drone nav links affect warrior II? The typical frigate, with a mass of 1,000,000Kg uses 1 Mega Newton mwds. It's a match.
The nav links only adds 25N thrust to the MWD of drones. Warrior 2 are 4000Kg, 25N is too small to really change anything given how physics work.
Anyway Warrior 2 with Drone Nav V gets a base speed of 6300m/s.

You don't swat flies with a M1A2 Abrams.

The other day i was in 0.0 in a hurricane with 425mm II's and barrage. A crow was orbitting me @ about 18km with a gist mwd fitted (found out later in the lootcan ^^) and i just turned on my guns and he popped...
Are you saying you hit a crow orbitting at 18km going like 10 km/s with a medium turret which has an optimal+falloff of like 13.5 km if even? I doubt anyone is going to believe that.

This might sound silly but... Assault launcher Caracals (assuming really good missile skills) eat interceptors. Key here is good skills. By the time they realize they are in trouble they can't get out in time. (usually) Sometimes a inty pilot will approach a caracal in a spiral gageing damage... if thats the case you can't kill him he'll just bugger off.

My Taranis doesn't seem to have a problem with most of them. Even if they don't die they seem to get scared and run off when I actually start hitting them from 16k.

Not all of EVE is F1-F8 you know, and who knows ... it might work; surely it is better for this when you don't have a specialized ship to take down him. I mean you are not going to ask him nicely to wait for you to get you're anti-interceptor ship, now will you ?
Won't even mention that a single Crow with a crappy damage output that engages a BC or above for me it means that a big gang is coming right around the corner to pop me, what does it mean to you ?
PS: Yes you do swat flies with a M1A2 Abrahms, you just need to get the fly on some honey on some hard concrete and you have a shot at it ... :) --------------------------------------------------

Believe me that occurred to me. Kept waiting for the rest of the gank squad to swoop in but it never happened.
I figure he either was hoping I had an idiot setup (happens) or was waiting for his mates but for whatever reason they couldn't make it or just wanted to have a bit of fun before going home or he was an idiot thinking he could drop a BC solo. No clue myself but no way he was getting through my tank on his own.
My guess is he was just having fun or his mates got sidetracked on their way to get me. I suppose he could have held me indefinitely but then I had some mates on the way too.

In my opinion, missles just don't have the dps to take down a crow before they can disengage, and it takes a lot of money to make a flycatcher fast enough to catch a crow.

I had a crow-experience that i won't be remembering with a smile on my face. I was flying my eos when two crows jumped on me (to make it more embarrassing i was actually at that point hoping they would). I didn't have previous experience fighting against crows solo... several other type of inties had gone pop in couple of secs when encountered before.
Needless to say none of my friends were online. Whoooo... pass they go, my webber didn't have a chance. Light drones didn't catch them, heavies didn't hit, MWDin didn't help... They couldn't even get my shields down for the first 15mins or so. No reinforcements. Just two crows and a thorax sitting at 200kms. Reasoning didn't change their minds... i was badly late from an appointment in RL. They kept my eos scrambled at least 30mins, it was totally boring and in I had to go. The only option would have been paying 100mils for ransom. I don't pay ransoms... So decided to log off. Should have self destructed but didn't think that then.
Good bye eos, and all not so inexpensive fitting. Wasn't nice.
