I generally name my ships in reference to how I lost the previous one, like I lost my caracal in an accidental can flagging incident "Never Fight In Gangs" and "Never Fly To M-0EEB" (you can guess how I lost THAT one...).
However I always call my ECM ships (blackbird/scorpion) 'HMS Primary'.

No that I expect anyone to read this but my ships tend to fall into a few classes by purpose.
Example combat battleships are all "Hammers"
Rokh: Silver Hammer
Geddon: Golden Hammer
Apocalypse: Crystal Hammer
Navy Apoc: Diamond Hammer
My cruisers tend to be playful, examples:
Vexor: SticksNStones
Arbitrator: Happy Meal (golden arch, mcdonalds refrence)
Curse: Joymeal (happier than a happy meal)
Frigates are just downright silly
Punisher: PWNED
Incursus: Poke
Anathema: Voyeur
Retribution: SmallPackage

My Raxes go under the name "Serpentis Chief"

I've also always named my ships after Iain M Banks ships.
Main in a Nighthawk called "I Blame My Mother" and alt in a Dominx called "I Blame Your Mother" at the moment :p
I also name my shuttles after rubbish cars - Nissan Micra, Ford Fiesta, Robin Reliant and Audi TT are my most common ones.

I name all of my Ore Barges after vacuum cleaners. I name all my Ospreys after hand-held mining tools like Mattock. My Badgers are mostly random like "Beast of Bourbon" or "Bucket". Warships are names suitably majestic and whatnot. My ships that can cloak are all named things amusing like "Jaws Theme" or "Ambush".

being a "mongolish" Khanid bloodline I name my ships in mongolian language (found some words on the net :D)
Best sounding ones so far are
"Qara Chinua" - black wolf (malediction inty),
"Burilgi" - destroyer (coercer destroyer) and
"Altan Gan" - golden fire (abaddon bts)

My main characters all have there names based at least in part from the series of books as well.
Some git stole Grimmand Honninscrave and i bet he flying around in a Starfare's Gem as well. I'll gun his ass down if I ever meet him ;)

A corpmate of mine confessed that he doesn't like fast ships (flying an Atron made him dizzy), so I named my slowest ship, a retriever, after him and I always take some time to annoy him and MWD circles around his industrials with an interceptor.
My interceptors are ofcourse named after Godesses, since I love fast ships.....

I named my Cyclone "Stormbringer" and my rifter/Jaguar "Errant Venture"
other names i've used are generally themed around hunters/predators for warships, or for haulers i have "[systemname] Express" depending on where it's based, for example a hauler from Rens would be the "Rens Express".

I usually give italian animal names to my ships, and normally the name reflects the ship's appearance; e.g.
Moa = Rinoceronte (Rhino)
Cormorant = Scolopendra (big centipede)
Kestrel = Istrice (hedgehog, lot of things that sting)
Badger = Procione (raccoon, dunno why...)
