Ronseal - A destroyer - it was supposed to do what it said on the tin ...
When it got blown up in the first engagement, the next destroyer got called 'Trade Desc Viol' - cos it doesn't do what it said on the tin ...

I use names from the fighter types in R-Type Final, theres loads of different shiptypes that sort of cross over from R-Type to EVE so it works (Recon Fighter names = Covert Ops and Recons, Basic fighters = T1 frigates etc)
Also, LV-101 Grand Finale was just too cool a name to pass up for my Thanatos :p

My shuttle is named Solo Pwnmobile. I tried to name it Corbin Devereux's Megathron, but it wouldn't fit.

I generally go for the comedy aspect;
'OMG, It's a --->' for those lovely people scanning me out.
'Red Wunz Go Fasta', for my Enyo's.
'Insert Corp Member's Fave Ship', for those comedy moments when I fly around in a Bantam.
And my recent favourite is when people eject, I like to have a little tribute to them in the name, 'Ex-Name's Ship type',

I used to call my ship Cargo Container, when someone would do a scan it would show that between all other real cargo containers. Now with wrecks I use a different name

I gave up on clever names a while back. Now I just index them. Catalyst 001, Myrmidon 003, Thorax 198, etc.
In the past through, I had three that I thought were funny:
