In the spirit of "CCP : Do that thing" threads...
Can the flipping camera be zoomed out completely (or halfway... or have a set default zoom setting) after jumping/undocking/etc?
(or am I missing something? )

Mine is. And it is annoying. I'm quite sure a while ago it would keep the camera position after jumping.

Yes please! I hate having to zoom out every time I jump or undock! Originally by: Wrangler Being constructive is always good, explaining what is wrong, why it is wrong and suggesting how it could be fixed is always appreciated since we do need feedback.
What is wrong: Camera is zoomed in on the ship as close as it can be after each jump or undock.
Why this is wrong: It is very annoying for the player to have to zoom the camera back out to a playable distance after each jump or undock.
How this could be fixed: Extremely simple. Add a line to the "EVE\cache\Settings\user_xxxxxx.dat" file that specifies the players's perferred camera's zoom distance for that entire account so that it will apply to all characters on that account for all ships. Fixed. Done. Everyone's happy!

It's been said already... but hold down the left and right mouse buttons and move the mouse backwards and forwards. Fast-Forward zooming ability! I never use the mousewheel to zoom out.

When you undock/jump etc., what do you really want to see?
A: A good overview over the surrounding area, enabling you to immediately identify threats. B: A close-up view of the ship you're flying, which you've seen thousands of times before.
CCP seems to think it is B. I'd hazard the guess that the large majority of players would think it is A.
General advice: Stop whining! |

On the whole oposite side of the spectrum when it comes to looking at things up close: My camera doesn't zoom in on anything closer then the minimum distance on the ship you are flying. Since I am flying a rather big ship I can't really take a good look at anything...

It's a strange thing but I've noticed that some people genuinely aren't bothered by having to do things like this all the time. As a programmer I have often taken pains to design things so that they are automatic or allow the user to tailor them to their needs. I keep encountering people who just don't care.
Now me, I'm the opposite. I've even replaced all my clocks with radio controlled ones (and my watch) because I don't see why I should waste my time keeping track of daylight savings.
Oh well. Takes all sorts I suppose. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Yeah well, CCP think:
* You will want billboards on your overview. * Putting 'Trash...' next to 'Activate ship' is sensible. * Drag and drop is good exercise. * If a font is big enough to read easily it can be made smaller.
As always they are technically brilliant but lousy at good UI design. Been that way for more than three years (I gave up on the beta because I couldn't read the font) and I can only hope that the Gfx overhaul includes a UI overhaul by someone that knows what they are doing.
BTW:As a developer I know that good UI design is not easy so the above isn't really saying that CCP developers are crap. They just ought to realise their limitations and hire someone in. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I would LOVE to see that the cam view is at the same distance after a jump then it was before the jump. It should rembember the last setting between the jumps. If I zoom out as far as I can before a jump, it shouls stay that way after the jump.

I agree with OP. Having to scroll out every time can get old fast.

I did exactly the same thing. I was so annoyed that I couldn't find a cooker with a raido clock on it....
And the radio towers are pretty close to us too, which is conveinient (I'm in Towcester).
Oh by the way, there has been a pretty nasty accident on the A43/A5 roundabout. Avoid it if you can.

Think I've pointed it out in patch feedback threads and so on like 4 times now, it seems ccp don't give a flying f***. Must be incredibly hard programming :(

I can avoid it very easily because I work in Bicester. I manage to live 99% of my life without going through that junction. That junction needs to be built up into a motorway-style interchange but there's no room and probably no budget. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
