I would have to say that the mining skills as they are work fine considering that they really ARE just a part of the larger industrail skill set when you really think about it and put all the pieces together.
As for moving the belts to some unknown place that seems a bit odd. Unless you can just use any ol' ship's scanners to detect the belts it would essentailly make it impossible for any new characters to mine at all and that would mean any industrail character set-ups would be absolutely screwed from the get-go being unable to fight to save their life but being unable to mine because they cannot find a single roid. It would also make it much harder for any other small time operations to get going which means it will increase mineral price and ultimately the price of everything else. If inflation goes wild new players will feel the crunch fast and ultimately the game may become undesirable for anyone new. Without a new influx of blood in the game things could get rather boring in the long-run.

Besides the fact this thread was dead for a long time, I am willing to answer. The mining equipment isn't perfectly fine actually. It has seen a slow improvement over the past while. Maybe. Hardly any actually. As for moving belts to exploration, I do not see what is wrong with that. Move complexes -and- belts to exploration for all I care. And a new player would -not- have any trouble with it because the onboard scanner can perfectly well find the -basic- exploration things. Encounters and simple belts. It is only for the more expensive exploration and belts that you would need -one- character with probing skills.
