I find giant boobs and constant close up on panties to be disturbing, sick and boring.
How many of those animes don't have that s***?
Of the few animes I've seen, the only ones I enjoyed were: Dragon Ball Z (the portuguese dubbed version; english and japanese sound horribly), Evangelion and Akira.

Those aren't the best to start with, but they're not bad (well, excepting Dragon Ball Z, that's an atrocious series!)
Cowboy Bebop is always a good start for anyone. Its hard to dislike.

Hellsing- I have to put this atop as part of the contract I signed so I can name this char as I did.
Gungrave- Great Animation,Good story,awesome lead ((think John Mclain except he never talks)
Ergo Proxy: Great Story and animation bit easy to figure out tho

Just watched Ergo Proxy..... i loved every second of it, and i wish for a second series!
Similar to Evangelion with the dialogues, but easier to understand (not a bad thing) definitely recommend it.

Only anime's I've ever really watched, aside from whats on adult swim, are Bleach and Gantz.
Bleach - Adult swim got me into this, good show overall, keeps the suspense, action is where it needs to be, none of the DBZ-powering-up-for-6-episodes bull****
Gantz - largely ****ed me off, creepy as ****, but it seems like they took what should've been a series with like 5 episodes and stretched them into 26 episodes.

I know of one REALLY good movie, mostly cause of the animation itself. I think I'm the only person who's ever seen Spriggan before.
Most of my favs have already been listed, but when I was alot younger, I liked Yuyu Hakusho alot. It's kinda like a cross between bleach(which I like now) and dragon ball(liked when I was younger).

This was one of my favorite space animes I've seen besides outlaw star and the like.

altho it is only subbed up to ep5, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is one of the most freaky dark comedy anime I ever saw.

Bleach is excellent, as is the two Gundam SEED series imo. Doesn't mean they're the best Gundam out there, just good.
Cowboy Bebop is a great series to start out on, its one of the ones that got me interested originally. Music is probably some of the best out there.

More recently aired recommendations complete with amv/mads so I can waste even more of your time:
Toward the Terra - Nice bit a scifi with no mecha \o/. I have been enjoying the well paced story in this one.
Magic Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers - Its been well crap until ep 16 but its the recent eps have been on the up. Being the A's fan that I am I cant not watch it =x
Lucky Star - It has its real downs such as them talking about how they like to eat their favourite foods (wtf?) and some real good bits (Inital D Parody). Overall i'd reccomend it.
I was gunna meantion darker than black and claymore but I think its been suggested enough times so far.

I've seen recently the last episodes of Hellsing. Not bad. I've also seen Afro Samurai, not bad either but god did I hate the "camera". I think I'm going to download some stuff mentioned in this thread, maybe I get addicted to anime.
