Edited by: Evula Moore on 25/02/2007 13:08:03 I'm sorry but it's not about being all uber, it's about flexibility... training one ship path (battleship)allows caldari pilots far more options than any of the other races, and battleship is the main class of this game.
The three battleship types available to caldari lead in three very important roles
Raven: best ratter bar-none, plus can be used effectly in close gate camps (but thats just a bonus)
Scorpion: Best EW, increases a gangs chances for victory GREATLY.
Rokh: Don't get me started, OPTIMAL ranges of 230km on t2 guns is just plain sickening, in a fleet (all good snipers attack in numbers), the passive shield bonus also adds nice survivabilty.
I have minmatar trained to 4, saw how over powered caldari was, now I have caldari battleship level 5. Yes caldari are bad solo, this is a multiplayer game so what.
A caldari ratters have the best ship, a caldari sniper has the best ship, a caldari EW spec has the best ship... all in one training path.

This is the only point I'd dispute...Raven is the best mission runner bar none, not as good out in a belt far from any support due to ammo constraints - certainly when 0.0 ratting where the ships tend to be bigger, a laser-equipped ship has certain undeniable advantages. ---

Gallente have the ebst drone ship, the best nos ship, a good nano ship, and the highest damaging battleship. All of which I would class as more useful. PVE is irrelevant, this game is meant to be balanced for PVP. For all I care they could make it so ravens can't enter level 4 missions.

Drone/Nos/nano are all the same ship so remember that. It is a drone ship for the drone race, go figure. Nos? It doesn't need guns it has drones to to dmg. Nano, again drones it doesn't need tracking as it doesnt' have guns of it's own.
As for best damage that is only point blank and gallente are close combat specialists so we are the best at it.
As for caldari they are specialsists in long range mainly rails and missiles. You complain about how weak missiles are how about get down to true DPS as guns don't have a 100% hit rate so your DPS would be lowered to balance that. If you want a larger HAM then post that as a want and not that caldari are weak.

Why even bother using an XL booster II without a cap injector, you would be better off EWAR tanking.
No injector and no nos means that your cap dies extremely fast even if your enemy doesnt have nos of it's own, and unless you are fighting another torp raven the odds of that are quite slim.

i'm sorry? You are saying that the versatility of gallente ships is a bad thing? When a caldari ship warps to the battlefield his oponent can be about 90% sure how he is set up. This is not true of any other race.

If you cant figure out how to rat with ammo using weapons you should just end it right now.
Missiles, due to being the easiest damage type changing weapons in the game. Plus having the luxuary of only one damage type, are easily the best ratting weapons. Safe a GSC and fill it full of ammo. When its full of loot, come back in a hauler and add ammo, and remove loot.
Everyone else has to do the same thing anyway, since they have to haul the stuff out. Not using ammo is not a benefit. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Gues my ewar setup, it differs in any battle, because i have the slots to do so. The best NOS Ship is the Rokh, while beeing able to field 4 Heavy Nos, and 4 Siege Launchers/Neutron Blasters without problems.
If you think you know each possible setup for caldari ships, guess you aren't very creative when fitting for pvp. Also the vexor and dominix are the only gallente ships that have a bit of versatility in them.
The others are 90% fitted with the biggest guns they can find, doing high amounts of damage at ridiculously short distances, beeing totally unable to fit ewar because they need their few midslots for mwd, webber, scrambler, cap booster.
90% of the gallente Blasterboats are set up this way, what great versatility are you talking about? -

There is no ship more then the raven that actually can still perform good after ECM'ed due to FOF missiles :) Thats a huge advantage wich no other race can use :)

No cap injector because it's a PvE ship.
Can drop a hardener or sba and one of the low mods for an RCU II and stick on an injector and some nos of varied size as well for PvP purposes. Still, fitting a torp raven is by no means 'a pain'.

The common phrase 'ZOMG nerff Calddariz!!1!' was constructed, not because of their amazing PvP/PvE power, but because most new features added were directed at boosting Caldari.
People found/thought up that most of the new features added in new patches are seemingly 'Proving Caldari dominance.' Other than that they arent all that amazing in PvP action or Fleet action. Small gangs are good though.

Despite new ships and reduxes of older ships, they still dont outperform the abaddon/geddon or mega. And if by some crazy number crunching they do outperform those ships, its not by a very large margin.
Scorpion is the exception because jamming is always the 'winzorz' in fleets. (I expect Gourmindong to crunch numbers and somehow prove me wrong in the next 45 seconds or so...)

Kinda. Geddon > Rokh below 154km. Rokh > Geddon over 154km.
Geddon Max Range = 154km DPS = 129.024 Rokh DPS @ 168km = 88.3 Rokh DPS @ 76KM = 132.55 Geddon DPS @ 76KM = > 145.55
If sniper effective range is between 50 and 250km then the Geddon is better in 54% of the situations and the Rokh the other. BUT the Geddon absolutly needs max skills to make this work, since the Rokh is, at max skills, 25km past game limited maximum lock range. Which means that it doesnt get hurt as much from less range. It also doesnt account for DPS comparisons. For instance, while the Geddon does outdamage the Rokh below 154km[actualy about 164 due to falloff]. The Rokh is still doing damage. And while the Rokh outdamages the Geddon above 154km, the Geddon isnt.
What this means is that the rokh is pretty much unequivicially the best sniper in the game. You cannot ever deal damage to it when it cant deal damage to you and it can deal damage to you while you cant deal damage to you.
Lets set up a risk analysis between the two. With two ships in our example both of each type to indicate more than one ship in gang[fleet setups remember]
Rokh vs Geddon: first number is kills, second number is deaths. Shooting at each other.
<154 >154 Total 2 Rokhs 1/2 2/0 3/2 2 Geddons 2/1 0/2 2/3
Rokh comes out ahead. Similar circumstances exist between the rokh and all other battleships[except in some cases the rokh just plain outdamages them over near the entire acceptable range i believe]
Simular circumstances exist between the Geddon and nearly all other fleet battleships[except the tempest/Maelstrom i believe]
Risk/benefit says choose the Rokh every time over any other fleet sniper in the game.
ed: alpha strike throws off the figures between the tempest/maelstrom and the Geddon, giving them better effective DPS, and their longer falloff does allow them to outrange the Geddon, though not for all that much distance. Alphastrike should have little effect on figuring between the geddon and the rokh at close range because the Geddon which has more DPS also has more alpha. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

ok that was a generalisation, range has some use, especially in large gang wrk but for small gangs:
Ok so your raven sits 70km away? lets ignore for the moment that it takes your torpedos about 20 seconds to even get to your target. Now whats holding your enemy in place? A gang member. Now while you might be out of that armageddon's or typhoon's or dominixes range, your wing mate is not. Boom. You've lost a ship, he warps out.
A similar scenario using a dominix. Your tackler dies. But oh wait, so does your enemy. Not that you need a tackler...
You seem to be forgetting a) A gang is a mix of ships meaning I have a lot of short range ships tackling including BS. b) Any decent tackler especially an inty isnĘt going to be killed by a BS fit for BS combat. c)A tackler is a lot cheaper than a BS anyway and unless the enemy FC is an idiot he isnĘt going to be calling them primary anyway.

Hey now, we cannot forget about the most important aspect of turrets and missiles. If you have a battleship dualwebbing a frig and hitting with TURRETS you'll do full dmg and insta pop him, but if you're using torpedoes you'd need like few volleys to do so.
And don't forget about my favourite aspect of missiles, flight time. if a ceptor is running, tranversal =0 m/s big guns will pop the ceptor, but torpedoes won't ever reach the target.
That's why i want missiles to do more hurting. End of song.

No cap injector because it's a PvE ship.
Then why are you posting the setup in this thread? Who cares about PvE setups - EVE should be (and is) balanced around PvP.

To fit a full rack of siege II's, a heavy cap injector, and 3 ballistic control II's (i.e. a PvP setup), you need to drop your tech II XL shield booster down to C5-L, and you need to use both a coprocessor II and a reactor control II. Oh, and you have to use medium nos because heavy nos take too much grid and CPU. You're telling me that's not the definition of "a pain to fit"? -Wrayeth "Look, pa! Got to love non-caldari speced pilots give'n retarded imput about something they know nothing about. Caldari CAN NOT hit long range without giving up tank to fit sensor boosting... people seem to not think about tackle..web..sensorboost..paint...flight time..ALL mid slots that a good caldari NEED to tank!! That B/S about armour tanking a missile boat is retarded. AS far as some nub saying his T2 cruise go like over 150km ...RIIIGHT. (guessing you havent used it in awhile). The other retard that said raven a solo ship for pvp....just pod yourself. Everyone saying fit web tackle mwd.. blah blah.. OK make low slot versions of WEB TACKLE AND MWD ill be sure to drop damage mods to fit it. Typhoon and Domi pilots make it seem it should be normal for a tier 1 bs to kill tier2 so easily..that should show how overpowered they are. i love that other races think its not overpowered they can fit FULL tank in lows.. ew/tackle mids..have more drones.. and some how raven it OMG pwnzer...lol TELL you what bring back EW from castor i think it was. and max damage on all ships with missiles..instant damage since ccp think missiles should be more like guns.

This must be an effect of this famous 'supply and demand theory' that I keep hearing about. Caldari ships aren't very good, they use missiles and shield tanking, therefore t2 missiles and shield tanking modules aren't used much, therefore they will be cheap. Yay!

Ok lets try and pull together some conclusions we can agree on:
Fleet action: Caldari rohk (haha, ok that was bad), no doubt about it. The rohk, the scorp, the rook, the falcon. All awesome for fleets. A small issue is that not *that* many caldari are specced for rails, however thats their problem However when we look at the bigger ships, namely the phoenix, not as useful as some other dreads in the really large fleet battles. I won't go into titans because, if you have one, you arn't gona complain
Solo: We suck. You wana argue? you are wrong. Caldari can be used for solo, I have made solo kills with caldari, but on the whole, we are crap. All the other races are far more viable. Interceptors are the exception to this.
Medium gangs: this is where the real arguement is. I believe a lot of people like the raven in a medium gang because frankly they arn't paticularly skilled. With a raven you can warp it in and start shooting, easy. However if you are organised I feel the other races offer superior small gang options as they can achieve much higher damage, assuming they get their optimal range, which a good gang should be able to achieve. Something that would massively boost our effectiveness is a warp to 150km option . Oh and to the guy saying the Rohk is the best nos setup, err you are wrong. It may fit them easier but its damage is crap with them. The phoon and dom can both achieve much higher damage while running nos, don't forget their drone bays.
thoughts? comments? flames? keep 'em coming.
