I checked with a GM and got some information. The old way of trading GTCs is still allowed and scamming with GTCs that way is STILL a bannable offense. Contrary to what the FAQ is saying, your petition will NOT be ignored/deleted if you are scammed using the old system of trading GTCs. However, you will no longer get your isk back as you really don't have an excuse for not using the secure system.
I like this way, it means the secure system can be used for buying GTCs or selling them but reselling them is no longer officially supported, meaning the old insecure system is only good for resale and only useful if you can trust everyone involved. That means it's fine for use with your friends and family, as it was intended. For example, someone buys you a game time code for a present and you sell it on for isk, that's how it's intended to be used.
Another nice feature is that we can use the new website to test the validity of codes by sending them to an alt using the new system and withdrawing the offer.

Edited by: DaneelROlivaw on 01/03/2007 12:20:34 Good job CCP
but not beeing able to use GTC when u need it is quite painfull. there should be a button:
"activate 30/60/90day GTC now"
in account management. instead of adding the time right away. lots of players like to have something in the back, when suddenly ;) you cant log in anymore, because account has expired. i am used to just pull out a gtc and continue to play right away, like many others. No need to actualy see the code, but to have it, and beeing able to activate it on that account, whenever you want it, is quite a good feeling.

Very nice idea... although... Sellers like myself only sell ETC when needing a boost in cash for some items.
It'd be nice to be able not to specify a buyer, and that the time code appears on the market for example (in the game client).
Or something like this :) so buyers can just buy them off a list :) -------------------------------------------------- No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. -------------------------------------------------- |

Yep reduce your wallet to under 1,000,000,000 isk and you will not get this error.

question: does this mean the code MUST go direct to the account it will be used on???
example.. can i buy a code on this account to use on another? or do i have to purchase it with the other straight up?

I bought a GTC just now but it doesnt appear to have replaced my subscription via credit card. Will this automatically update or do i have to cancel my credit card payment and could this mean my gtc has just vanished?

i have the same thing. i got given the actual GTC code by the vendor afterwards, i tried to put it in and it said the code was already in use. hopefully when the expiration date comes, the GTC will kick into action...can anyone confirm this plz?
edit: nvm the gtc shows up now as method of payment, it activated today instead of the expiration date of the other payment method

There seems to be a serious conflict in facts between the OP here by CCP Wrangler and the EVE support Knowledge Base.
In the OP here, we see the title "New Game Time Code Rules" and "The gametime will be automatically added to the buyers account and the payment will be automatically deposited to the sellers wallet." (emphasis added by me). We also know that the new GTC system is intended at least for active accounts, since the original post states "The system will automatically verify the validity of the code, then send the buyer an EVEmail with the offer."
In contrast, The EVE support Knowledge Base entitled "Payment options and account modifications" (at http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=21) states Quote: "Please note: If you are switching to Game Time Cards from other payment methods, make sure your subscription period has expired before activating the Game Time Card. It will take effect immediately, regardless of the remaining time of your previous subscription."
Indeed, if one tries to change payment methods, they are warned with Quote: "Your current subscription still has XX days remaining. If you change now those days will be lost, we recomend that you come back at a later date."
I applauded the new secure GTC system. Based upon this OP by CCP Wrangler, I confidently traded ISK for a code while logged on an account previously paid by credit card. I received the EVEmail. The new system verified the valid code and activated it. And now "My Account" says my time balance equals that of the GTC only -- 60+ days of balance from my previous purchase apparently lost! Foolish me. No warnings about losing my balance (unlike when manually changing payment types).
Well, thanks to the new system, I at least didn't get cheated by the person selling the GTC Yes, I've petitioned it.

Allow me to add to my previous message.
It appears as if the fundamental cause of the trouble I experienced is due to the inability of CCP to handle multiple payment methods on the same account. This is purely speculation here, but handling multiple payment methods might be technically tricky, including the posting of payment summary at "My Account". It might also offer accounting challenges (although it seems a "first in, first out" accounting system should work fine).
My particular problem could have been avoided if there were adequate warnings about time balance loss during the secure GTC transaction. It would also be nice if, should the GTC be declined after the warning about remaining balance, CCP would EVEmail the GTC seller that the offer was declined because of a remaining balance (rather than the buyer simply having second-thoughts).
Ultimately, the notification of an offer to sell a secure GTC via EVEmail seems impractical unless: a) the account is already being paid via a GTC or b) if the remaining balance of time on the account is insignificant enough to be tossed away by its owner. We already know that EVEmail is not practical for those wanting to reactivate an expired account.

Ebay has already made policy no sale of virtual property.
so they can try to bring it back to e-bay...and get banned there too :)

2007.03.07 12:45 A friend of mine asked me to purchase a GTC for him, and this is what I did. Unfortunately, your new service changed my payment method from CC payment to the GTC payment, without me confirming that change.
I was planning to give out this code to my friend, but instead, it was not only used automatically, but it has also disrupted my payment period, without my consent. Buying a GTC should not imply a desired change of payment option. Please try to fix this problem - I've petitioned it to no avail and I'd like to sort this out before the GTC is one day short.
Thank you for your reply Tripex

Just a follow-up to my issue (secure GTC purchase negating time already paid by credit card). CCP has resolved MY issue to my satisfaction - thanks. At the very least, the new system allows CCP support to view the facts of all sides of a GTC/ISK transaction.
Hopefully, the user interface of this new feature will become more refined in the near future. I also hope that CCP streamlines mixed payment methods for a single account. For example, extending time with a GTC but with a credit card account securing payments for future play time. Everyone wins: No disruption of EVE time for players and a CCP will get future payments (via credit card) until the player stops the account.

my problem is a bit more complex ^^
First i bought a 3 month billing with credit card (until 3 march 2007 in theory) Second i bought a 90 days GTC and added it to my account the 28 februar 2007 (so i lose 3 days, but that isn't the main problem) in order to avoid a second paiement by credit card the 3 march 2007 Third the 3 march CCP took me 38,85Ç from my credit card, and i don't wanted that !
In addition, it seems i paid for nothing, because NO paiment by credit card i made/they took is archived, and the second paiement by credit card (unwanted) added no time at all to my account : ------------------------------------ Username: Thorgoth Payment Type: EVE Time Code Change ? Subscription Status: Active Expires: 5/29/2007 5:56:15 PM Extend Payments made: 2
Recent Transactions 2/28/2007 5:56:15 PM EVE Time Code 90 days 10/27/2005 7:57:04 PM Promotional Game Time 14 days
----------------------------------------------------
I did a petition 3 days before and i've no answer by CCP, is it normal? I never petitioned so maybe is it longer than a couple of days? What will they do for me ?
Excuse my poor english but i'm a frog

***** ANSWERS TO POPULAR QUESTIONS *****
1. No you can NOT buy the card on one account and use it on another.
2. If your account is NOT active (ie. your time expired) you can purchase a GTC is the way indicated at the start of this post. As long as you have the money on the account you just log onto the account using the link provided int eh first post. You click on "Game Time Card Offers" or what ever its called ( its right under "Cancel Subscription" but only appears of a seller has made an offer to you). All you do is make sure the price and the time length is what you agreed upon and click accept.
3. "What if i don't have the money on the account that has lapsed into inactivity?" - You can still transfer money to it from an active account. I did this for my friend. Worked well.
Would like to thank Aybabtu for helping me figure this out and selling me the GTCs. Also would like to tank CCP for making a secure way of doing this.

Please make this possbile
Guy 1 sells 30day TC
Guy 2 tells Guy 1 he wants it for 150m
Guy 1 sends it to Guy 2 for 150m
This is how it is now, but this shuld be added
Guy 2 can see that he has an offer for 1x 30day tc for 150m ISK, he has an option "What characters wallet should suffer" (on the same account ofc), and an option to "Give away TC to other account".
Guy2 can then pay for a TC, and Guy 3 gets a free offer for the timecard.

Ran into this tonight. It occurs if the buyer has over a billion isk in the paying character's wallet.
Interesting, and kinda frustrating bug. |
