As part of the War theme, will you finish the contraband thing, where players take over customs officer duties and try and catch smugglers, smugglers who smuggle stuff obtained off the grid in Incana establishments? Or is that to become yet another abandoned feature that does not get iterated upon? CCP employees should never proclaim a feature to be awesome. Only subscribers should. Subscribers can never answer a question posed to CCP. Only CCP can. |

Wow, didn't expect this. Sad to see you go Zulu...it was the best of times, and the worst of times for Eve and it couldn't have been an easy job being in the hot-seat. I sure hope you still plan to stick around CCP, whatever your new role.
That said, with the MASSIVE change in direction that is ongoing at CCP, it's good to have some fresh meat in the hot seat. I hope good things will come of it for all in New Eden.
And yeah, my character in "space"?? Wow, cool arse. I hope it will be broadcast in HD as part of the Fanfest pay-per-view this year? You are still going to have that, like last year, right? Would like a synopsis of how " WAR " fits the behavior exhibited in allowing dec shields, allowing for unchecked exploitation of incursions and still broken aggression mechanics that have been wholly confirmed only to be dealt with in a biased and lopsided manner.

Don't be too hard on Zulu, he initiated great communication with us in CSM 5, attended all the meetings (first time a Sr producer did that), and most of the shortcomings associated with his "tenure" are due to the focus on InCarna, not because he personally sucked.

Welcome to the hot seat. Good luck. Is part of 2012 going to be the first inklings of how you're going to introduce DUST 514 into the EVE universe and let us finally see the form of interaction we're going to have between the EVE players and the DUST players?
I mean one of the reasons you guys got into the jam you're in is that you were a 1 game house trying to develop 2 new games while supporting the existing one. You'll be a much happier house once the 2nd one is out the door and providing revenu to support the development of the 3rd game. So getting that 2nd game out the door IS kind of important in the long run.
Also is the dust beta going to integrate with Sisi at some stage?
I am glad we're going to see some refactoring of the old code base. |

Well, Zulupark did an excellent job on the first Q&A forum quest (to streamline contacts between players and CCP|). All on his own. If you remember the second one that got aborted, you know how an immense task that was, with a hand full of devs not being able to complete it at all.
Nuff said. Zulu, hope you can focus your sometimes fury temperament onto something you like to do and being worthwhile for others.
To the new owner of the 1000 dollar pants, it is EVE. Not the EVE, just EVE. Thank you.
Also we get told time after time about the new tools and how amazing they are and how fast, in comparison with the past, they are now going to make life easier on the developers. Like for example how great they new mission PVE tools where, and all we have seen are just drops of new missions while back then the dev blog even mentioned the new mission could be uploaded just during any normal downtime.
So if you mention these new tools, being so great, could you please give some evidence that they actually work. Because to be honest, I never have seen those old/ new PVE tools really in action.
Oh hey Zulu, don't stop poasting. We don't hate you. Only like to pod you.

Welcome Unifex! May your stay as Lead Producer be long and fruitful, you've set the bar high with your work with the core tech group though
As one of your first jobs, could you go find Oveur and get him to tell you his secrets of being a good producer? Or at least, make Oveur post again on the forums (or a devblog)? Maybe try bribing him with doubled bree rations. Cheers :)
As for Zulu, best of luck and I hope you find a more fitting role. FWIW, time has shown that the Ruskies were right in their original views which made you change your name from Zulupark, I'm not going to miss you as the guiding the helm of the good ship EVE, but don't think ill of you (well, apart from being responsible for NEX, I'd have you flogged for that if that's actually your fault).

Cool! The nerfs to supercaps will cause more super pilots to join the largest alliances who can properly "support" their deployment, further concentrating firepower/wealth in EVE. The end result will be fewer "fun" fights, and will hurt EVE in the long run. |

Self fulfilling promises. The rage a few month ago was about a lot of half completed features in EVE, now CCP promises to return to some of the half-assed stuff while keeping their last expansion in a not even half completed stage.

I want them to finish the project they started and not leave features 1/3 of the way done for another 5 years. CQ as is has no purpose, give it one, and people will use it. |

Abandoning features can be good and bad both. But I wouldn't say they've abandoned WiS yet, they're just putting it on the back burner while more important issues are brought to the fore (which is exactly the right thing to be doing for the next year or two). The engine for the tech isn't ready, the plans for WiS aren't ready and the playerbase is still hostile towards sinking any significant amount of resources to the project. I'm sorry you have such a hardon for it, but focusing on that now would have in the best case scenario been a huge gamble with a huge chance of failure and in the worst case it would have been a death sentence for CCP. It's a horribly bad bet and it's an irresponsible bet to take at this time.
@topic I'm glad to see significant changes being made, but I'm also glad to hear Zulu is still going to be part of the team. Not everyone hates him regardless of what his part or blame in the summer clusterfuck was. You do your best, but at times ****/mistakes happen and you try to learn what you can from them and move on. Hopefully everyone is a bit wiser from the experience and can go on to make EVE an even better game than it already is.

I hope not, insofar as the whole Walking in Stations project. Just because part of it was rushed forward in an attempt to extract as much money from the cash cow that is CCP's customers, doesn't mean the concept is bad. It just needs to be completed to a level that blows us away and delivers real content, the lack of which was the problem with CQ in Incarna.

Yeah, well, as far as they've shown us what they had in mind for Incarna, I'm not particularly sure they had much of a good concept to go with. But, alas, they might still have an ace up their sleeve that they didn't tell us about. I for one hope they do. |

Changes are always difficult and we often do not see the personal, heart-wrenching process that led to them in CCP's offices.
I'd like to personally thank CCP Zulu for his contributions, and hope he will still play a significant role in shaping our Universe. Also to the past and present employees of CCP for their hard work, not to mention the many sacrifices by their families, to making Eve *the* Sci-Fi MMO by which all others will be judged. All that you have done have been for the love of the art, and our enjoyment.
I wish CCP Unifex all the best in filling his new, very large shoes. While I do welcome what he has said with regards to enhancing the FiS aspect starting from the Crucible expansion, I continue to look forward to the Incarna developments. I truly believe that Incarna, as well as Dust, will give us a holistic Sci-Fi experience that no other game will come close to doing in the foreseeable future. What Dust aims to do will truly be transformational to both platforms and genres. When the time is ripe, I hope CCP will also launch WoD successfully and give that franchise the same technological and game design breakthroughs that it deserves.
This month marks the 6th year I've been playing Eve (hit the 100 millionth sp yesterday woot showoff time). As long as CCP and my fellow capsuleers continue to believe in this "game", there will be nowhere else for me to go. |

Exactly the right way of thinking, to bad you didn't think like that 3 years ago. I still want to see something more like what was showed of in the 2009 and 2008(?) fanfests though. Those art assets looked awesome and extremely "eve", more than the art design we have today sadly.
I wish you the best of luck Unifex and looking forward to what you guys will deliver this spring (I hope we don't need to wait to long for some more fixes, crucidible was good and fixed a lot of smaller stuff but some larger things urgently needs touching upon (sov warfare, supercarrier spidertanks (remove the rep range bonus already!) , FW tweaks) :) |

Yes, we will be iterating (itGÇÿs not a dirty word) on those features which need some polish, balance, fixes and general love. The releases throughout 2012 will be an extension of the type of release we had with Crucible with the addition of a theme to help us scope and tie the work into a really compelling and coherent package. The first theme is going to be War and everyone is getting very excited about it.
Normally, I'd say "what you do, not what you say," but Crucible finally put CCP's money where their mouth was. I have a lot more faith now that these sorts of plans will actually be implemented sometime in the near future, and it's exciting. |

Oh, so YOU"RE the reason ccp has started to get their act together, to hopefully become quality competition with other MMORPG games, in regard to overall graphics and less patches due to less bugs.
Crucible is the FIRST edition of eve that Ive seen have the least ammount of bugs on first release as well as the first Ive seen to address the graphics problems. your graphics were crap before cruicible; they were something an amateur studio would produce 12 years ago.
finally, eve is starting to become more realistic; can we, however, get a FULL realistic perspective, compared to direct x 11 games that are currently out. We need solar flares, planets orbiting but a way for people to still have "static" bookmarks in relation to customs offices and planets, etc. Ever heard of offsets for variables in the programming?
We need comets, shooting stars, supernovas along with a vast variety of other improvements. |

Provided I don't have to spend real money to stock my 'establishment' with spirits and exotic dancers I'm good.

just that i was wondering what was/is the name of you in game char that you have played. that I would go and shoot it up (much ) and getting the new year off a great start by having a ccp member corpse would not happen to much. lol
on another note I do hear when ccp whent out and got blown to bits the ccp corpse prices were very high. :P |

It just needs to be completed to a level that blows us away and delivers real content, the lack of which was the problem with CQ in Incarna.
Exactly. The execution was the problem. Putting more"there" into the game can vastly improve immersion, but CQ as it stands is a pointless cycle hog. It would be a mistake to condemn the entire WiS concept simply because it was introduced so poorly. Perhaps the change in leadership will result in a more focused effort.
Remember that PvP is by its nature a limited market. If done correctly, WiS and similar "carebear" concepts can vastly increase the player base by attracting players with different interests, and that's good for the long-term future of EVE. |

I doubt Zulu "got the boot" or was demoted. My guess is that he stepped down 1) because he knew it was time for some fresh meat with fresh ideas to take his place and 2) because dealing with the *******'s of Eve can't be fun during a crisis like CCP has had this past year.

I don't know why all the trolling in here for Zulu. All in all he managed the whole thing pretty well...especially the past few months for Crucible.
I for one o7 CCP Zulu. Good job so far...we just needed more love in the "Iterations" department as EVE grew. Code needs to be gone through and updated, all that good stuff.
I am glad to see you sticking around.
ALSO - say what the haters want, Incarna IS A GOOD IDEA. It just needs to be grown slowly like Unifex stated ... nothing wrong with that.
EVE is going to be gone through with a fine tooth comb and big/NEW ideas like Incarna, Like the NEX store (or artists for hire as I like to think of it) will come online slowly and surely.
Anyways...I digress.

And -- despite having a few issues around POCOs and POS fuel and perpetually having my windows reset -- Crucible is a pretty good release. And if we look at POCOs and Fuel Blocks, compare the original plan with what was finally released -- much improved. In both cases, I think they were good ideas at the core from the start, but were rushed out before fulling working out he consequences, risks, etc.
And in any event -- all these nice little features -- like clicking the Jump button, man, I love that change -- really make Crucible a success, overall. So you're leaving the role on a good note, so far as I'm concerned. I look forward to hearing about your future plans. |

CCP Zulu, you have great vision. In measured doses, vision is vitally important to any venture. But vision without adequate planning nearly always results in EPIC FAIL. I hope that, one day, WiS becomes the epic win that you envisioned. I believe it can be done. It just needs more work. Flesh it out and make it relevant. Then I believe the Eve-O community will welcome WiS with open arms and wallets.

You are a complete moron lol. Apparently you have been carebearing since 2007 because most of the Tier three BC are fine as is. Just because the tier three BC is not a drake V2, or a hurricane V2 does not mean that they are not useful and good. The problem is Ti3 BC can not easily be adapted to carebearing roles, so GTFO and quit your bitching . They are fine for PVP and can't be good for carebearing, similar to an arazu or a curse. |

I want them to finish the project they started and not leave features 1/3 of the way done for another 5 years. CQ as is has no purpose, give it one, and people will use it. Hopefully everyone is a bit wiser from the experience and can go on to make EVE an even better game than it already is. o7
I love it when someone says something that indicates they know what all the player base thinks. As many in the player base are upset at the lack of at least some resources being put on ambulation. Most of the hostility was no about WiS in particular, it was about "golden ammo", resources on other games and some damaging internal communications being leaked.
CCP getting back to ambulation in a couple of years could very well be way too late. No telling what games might be available by then. The decision to not even hint at when ambulation might get on a burner again will create a continued lack of confidence in CCP being able to deliver on their promises. A broken promise in this case that we can be reminded of for years it would seem as we sit in our Captains Cells staring at a door that will never open.
As to the rest, fly safe Zulu! Welcome new guy!
If "war" means finishing what they abandoned with faction warfare, makes sense but don't you think miners, industrialist and traders are due for some luvin?

How do you think you have any credibility after such a long period of time promising aw3esome then delivering the only single player per instance MMO in the universe? Then going dark about future plans for ambulation for so long? Now we get "we just can't figure out anything fun to do with it".
You already have tons of suggestions and even showed of some concepts years ago as to how ambulation would make Eve better, what else are you waiting for? If you are somehow waiting for the average PC to be 50X better at graphics because of your base tech can't work on most PCs you had better get someone on staff that understands the actual trends in the PC industry because that path is failure.
If the delay in getting back to features is any indication your real plan is to just wait until we can all walk in space stations in RL. I expect to be able to do that before I can in Eve.

I have a similar sentiment as Issler above me. I feel betrayed and abandoned. I believe in the dream of building the ultimate sci-fi universe, but right now I feel like CCP lacks the courage to even say they still have that vision.
Some of us have been waiting for WiS a looooooong time, and just as we are about to get it, it gets postponed indefinetly. CCP has to realize how cruel that is for those of us who looked forward to WiS. We have to wait several months before we even get to hear that Incarna is put on ice in some off-site interview, and then several months more for someone to confirm it, all the while being at the mercy of trolls in a 120+ pages thread. And we don't even get an apology for the "cancelation" of Incarna and the poor communication.
At the same time, the CSM turns a deaf ear to us, with the chairman seemingly only interested in representing "his" constituents and writing stuff like "Just ignore the people you disagree with. This is a thread for me to discuss issues with actual constituents, not to have a slapfight with lunatics who have never used a jump bridge in their life." I get the impression that he is telling CCP that the people who want WiS is very small and that CCP believes him. We are not represented by the CSM and CCP will hardly communicate with us, or acknowledge our existence. CCP has poisoned the idea of WiS for a significant amount of people, that is true, but I believe that the people who are opposed to WiS is just a very loud minority.
2011 has not been a happy year for me, and I was really looking forward to 2011 before it started. I have not played Crucible yet, mainly because I had some big (unrelated) hardware problems, but I haven't been in a hurry to get back into EVE. CCP may think that it has deployed Incarna, but it hasn't. It's the most incomplete expansion to date, as far as "delivering what is promised" goes. I don't know how long my patience will last, but I fear that 2012 will not bring us any closer to seeing the full deployment of Incarna, and that might cause me to lose faith in the dream, the vision that caused me to play EVE almost 4 years ago. And then I would feel very silly for loving a game so much that it could actually hurt me.
In short: CCP, you owe those of us that have been waiting for WiS so long (several years) a big apology for snatching it away just as we could almost taste it. You should realize that, because you gave us a big apology for not delivering something else for "only" 18 months. And even that will not bring you one step closer to making it up to us, the disciples of your vision. |

It is the grimmest of moods as my main account is about to expire and now it's official that there is no hope left for me in this whole year.
I am not really interested what's gonna be the future for CCP. I will keep an eye on the forums as i serve my time in EVE (this bloody account, I just had to pay it for 6 months in advance...), but i am at the lowest point since october 2008.
I will see the FanFest come and give no hope -and I will be overly sarcastical and cynical about anything that resembles a promise. Pre- incarna, I was thinking that 2012 would be the real deal, as was impossible to deliver Incarna in 2011. Now it comes that 2012 is going to be the year of the gameplay i haven't given a damn for three years.
When this account runs out in late April i will just leave EVE altogether. And I hate it as I am leaving burned out of doing the same things and hopeless about the future of EVE.
It's not that dramatic arterial wound in the forearm what kills you, but the silent bleeding of that broken rib under your lung. And CCP is looking at the wrong wound. |

Nice.... missed this blurb since I was gone over the holidays.....
Been saying this needed to happen since it was announced he took the chair.
Well.... one Zulu down.... one Hilmar to go.... as we press on for a better game where the PLAYERS actually get what they want.
Peace all. |
