ok, now how about some details on how its effects in game will be felt, i activated my free trial, but can seem to find no one talking anywhere at all. Im not sure how it works, i've found little or no source reading, except how to hook up a mic.....and like most people, i already knew how to do that.
Can i use it like a comms system between ships? like any strager i meet, can i "hail" them via the eve chat? is it gang specific? perhaps corp specific? will the local channel be filled with chatter now? details man, i need details.

I remember somewhere someone said something about only needing a single VIVOX account to use EVE Voice on all our accounts. Now it seems we need one VIVOX account for each account. I didn't see anything mentioned on the website, so I may as well ask here: Do we need one EVE Voice account per EVE account?
My second question is whether we can change (either now or in the near future) the port VIVOX uses, as my University doesn't want to open the VIVOX port ?
Thanks.

Edited by: Eewec Ourbyni on 21/03/2007 23:09:05 Until such time as Vivox uses a port other than 5060 for the incoming info or allows it to be reconfigured, this is something I can't use.
Ditto for anyone with a VoIP enabled router (where you plug your phone headset into the router).

Excellent! This is great news!
Now, can we get some sort of manual? I want to map one of my mouse buttons (Mouse 5, to be specific) to activate the voice function. I want to know how to do this.
Anyone?

The same way you map *all the other buttons*.
And the settings for voice are where *all the other audio settings are*.
And the options for joining or leaving voice in a chat channel is where *all the other channel options are*. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

Well, if I don't put voiceEnabled=0 in my prefs.ini then my router crashes whenever I log into Eve. Needless to say that I won't be paying extra for this 'feature'.

Well me and some alliance frends had a play around with it last night, what we found
- its not bad quality - Having a display in game of whos talking is nice Problems found - It screws over people who can't run sound cos of the whole realtex problem and needing to allow a port with your firewall. - When we switched to a fleet suddnly some people who could hear us in alliance could no longer hear us in a fleet, no matter when they were placed. - There seems to be no support at all for the fleet structure, as was I belive one of the points of bringing it in.
So in conclusion, could we please have a manual to tell us A) what the hell it does and B) how is it ment to work around the gang structure. At the moment I can't see any reason top use this over TS/Vent. ----------------------------------------------- EECC recuitment thread.

Edited by: M4g3ll4n on 22/03/2007 09:14:32 I think, if EVE Voice should be accepted by the players. It must offer at least all advantages of Teamspeak2 or Ventrilo. Or it must have other stronger advantages like "Voice Chat in the local channel". So you can talk to people that have normally no access to your TS server :)
And Asuro: For TS there is a tool called "Voice Overlay", that already shows you ingame who is speaking atm and if you want who is in TS or Ventrilo. ---------------------------------------------

* Eve voice will not work with dial up or satellite connections. Thats me out on both counts.
Eve voice data rate is just too high for dial up to cope unfortunately, so I will just have to stick with Vent/TS.

VIVOX revolution will occur. Welcome to the doom of TS/Vent. AS all the nah sayers might look at the default it today, I say look at EVE 4 years ago. Tell me if you where there and how you felt about it.
Tell me you do not except the changes that will come to both EVE and VIVOX in the next few month. Tell me if you think CCP will say ohh well it was a cool thought a few forum dudes thought TS/Vent is the only way. I forecast VIVOX/CCP will be the greatest step in MMO evelution. It will rank up there next to a single server game.
These are things that CCP does not have to say they know thier player base needs no manuals. There none for anything else and look at 30k online constantly. There will be those that leave cause they cant spy any longer.

Hey hey guys, chill.
Its the first time something like this has been attempted. Give it some time geez.
TS and Vent werent perfect first day they were unveiled. This needs testing like any major massive online thing does. Look at it in the long run, everything CCP has done with this game we love, right.
I love the idea of integrating this as ships comms system. Its avesome tbh. Just think of clicking on someone and opening voice radio to him, he gets a little warning of incomming voice and he accepts or not. Simple and lifelike.
Wait a month and then give it a review after they iron out all the issues.

first of all kudos for ccp/vivox for intergrating this system
personally i see great potential in this.
i do realise that is has some bugs/imperfections sofar but im sure they will be overcome.
personally the biggest issue i currently see with eve voice is the poor sound quality, to my disaapointment the sound doesnt even closeslly match the quality of vent.
however as soon as this has been adjusted (and im really hoping it will be soon) eve voice will gain the popularity the idea behind it deserves. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Hango ([email protected]) |

Edited by: xJohnnyDx on 22/03/2007 13:01:01 Sorry if this has come up already, but have any devs acknowledged and/or commented on the fact that Ventrilo and Teamspeak both have huge advantages over this software, most importantly the fact that this service, even with small corps with 15 or so members, will be paying more than they would for a TS or Vent server (if they're paying at all)? Another very big plus is that TS and Vent can both be used outside of game, whereas this program cannot (if I've read the descriptions correctly.) A lot of corps have become groups of friends, that may still talk and hang out, even if not in game. Many corps have members that play other games as well, I'm sure, that they use their voice programs for.
I'm sure there are a bunch of other minor reasons, but those are the big ones that I'd like to see an official response on.
Edit - I'm also seeing some people talking about some sort of functionality for fleets and wings. These features, although named differently (channel, sub channel, and channel commander) are readily available and very easy to use in Teamspeak.
And just to clarify, I'm not trying to bash this new program. On the contrary, I'd love to see it become the preferred voice chat program for Eve. Unfortunately, I just don't see it happening with the problems I've listed above. PLACE SIGNATURE HERE |

I myself am Looking forward to bug things from Vivox but at the moment we have little details about how it works or what it can do.
If some one could write up some details I'm sure a lot of people would be happyer. The one thing I was looking forward to was the fleet commanders voice drowning out those below him, but no show ----------------------------------------------- EECC recuitment thread.

The feature of showing where a person is speaking from is nice, although I wouldn't view it as something that would be a gigantic help. As an FC, you don't want to hear your individual pilots, you want your WC's to be the only voice in your ears. Therefore, a simple, "Wing 1 in X-YZ12" does the same job, it's just not as pretty as a dot on the map. I have not, however, seen this function firsthand, so perhaps it's a little more detailed than that.
Regarding the second sentence in your post, I apologize, but I'm having a little bit of trouble with your translation, so I am unable to respond. PLACE SIGNATURE HERE |

As an aussie user and computer scientist I can honestly say this sux.
The time between when you hit the button and when you can actually speak is horrendous for people who are in Australia (sydney). I certainly hope you will localise settings for this to the local vivox office for routing of the voice traffic.
I won't pay for it until this is done.
