After finding a complex in .7 with rogue drones and some hacking containers, I make up a kestrel real quick thinking it would be easy. I warp in get scrammed and almost insta popped. Ok I go get my cerberus but the gate wont let it in. Finally I fit a harpy with Tech II guns, Gist AB/Gist SB thinking that if anything has a chance of getting through it this will. Nope it goes pop after only killing 2 and running the booster non-stop. Then I get a ceptor just to recover my can and guess what? The buggy exploration **** dissappeared!Well that was a fun use of a couple hours CCP GJ. Fix your **** before you keep changing more, mkay?

What I object to is that in empire, you get jack from exploration sites ... (not including the occassional asteroid belt).
I figured that if I tried enough of them, I might luck into something, but never. Never a reward for escallations, no skill books, no data cores or BP's, on occasion I'll get salvage containers, but hacking and archeology containers are alwasy empty.
And I've done more then 40 in empire, from .4+.
I understand you don't want empire to be lucrative or anything, but at least give us mediocre crap, like T1 Rig BP's or some minor science books.

To tell you the truth, you would think I would get outstanding rewards for something this difficult. But instead 2 hours of scanning and two lost ships. And im sure it will be like all the other messed up things in the game...."the client was not the cause of this problem so you get jack crap back" even though its near impossible. Just like after "Stop the Thief" returned and everyone was dying but they refused to return the ships. Then right afterwards they made the mission easier. WTF? If the mission was deemed too hard should the ships not be returned?

Edited by: Yukiko Kanezaki on 24/03/2007 20:00:50 They return ships you lose to things outside of your control.
Stop the theif doesn't scram (i've never been scrammed) you can warp out if need be. You where saying you warped into a plex, got jammed and popped because you couldn't warp out? Fit WCS, you have the option.
Meanwhile, if you lost your ship because your computer crashed, or your ISP decided it was a good time to work on the lines, IE something you can't control (get a better computer/ISP, srsly) you can get your ship refunded. Likewise, if you lose the ship due to a bug, you should also get your ship back.
If the plex you are trying to run is indeed bugged, a petition should get your ship back. Meanwhile, if the mission is beatable with the things at your disposal, then you won't be getting the ship back, and you should try a diffrent approach to the plex. Going in guns a'blazin isn't the only way to complete a plex. You could try using a cov ops and seeing if you can stealth past the drones and get to the goodies. When you attempted to bring in a HAC, and the gate messgage popped up and said, "This ship type not allowed". It also mentions what ship types are allowed.
From what I have seen. Tech-2 cruisers and battlecruisers are a no go on these exploration sites, but a battleship is allowed. Take one of those in.

It seems like half the sites I've looked for are invisible to my probes (although this was pre Rev 1.4). The ones I did find were empty or contained nothing of value. It too have given up on exploration. Its expensive risky and achieves nothing in Empire. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Yep, sounds like he did. I've done one Haunted Yard since the fix patch and it did escalate properly. The thing that was crazy though is the very first step, as in the initial exploration site you find with probes, was about 50x harder than the rest of the escalation steps.
I beat it using only a well tanked Hawk. Keep speed up and the drones don't hit so hard. There are a metric butt load of them though so you have to be quick on killing the scramming ones just in case.
I think all I got out of that entire deal, besides the normal drone mineral crystals, was 3 pieces of T2 salvage as loot from a particular drone at the end step.

I managed to tank this in a Omni Tank Harpy
Highs: 4x Tech II 150mm (antimatter)
Mids: Gisti A Type Small SB, Gisti A type 1MN AB, DG EM Amp, DG Exp Amp
Lows: Domination Tracking Enhancer, Tech II Mag Stab
Rigs: Anti EM Screens x 2
Resists with my Comp skills at lvl 3 EM 67 EXP 77 KIN 70 THER 80
I found Manual Piloting and keeping the Range above 18km allowed me to sustain my tank using Bursts on the SB. Takes a little while but it is possible solo. I would also say a Full Tech II/Best Named Fit would be able to do the same.
Unfortunately this did not escallate

rogue drones do alot of em damage...so caldari ships will have trouble tanking this one.
even the complexes in 0.0 dont seem to drop much....the hacking/arch sites are nice, as are hidden belts if mining is your thing. Ive only done a handful of exploration complexes, all prior to the patch, and no escalation. Havent been arsed enough to try again since.
if im exploring, and the multispec probe returns "unknown" i move on.

Did it in a Crow with out too much trouble. Took a while as the drones could take a bit of damage. I definately was challenging though for a small ship as the drones use heavy missles. Loot was not that great though just drone minerals, and did not escalate for me.

Odd, did it over the weekend and there was no escalation of any kind.

I'd be devastated if I got a T1 rig BP as a reward. You can buy most of them for less than 500k.

Totally agree, empire exploration is cr*p.
Spent ages training up me skills, was really looking forward to this addition to the game and of all the systems Ive scanned in empire (sec ratings 0.3 - 0.8) all I've been lucky enough to find rat wise is a few frigs and a few cruisers at each complex I've found. The only hacking containers I found had 1 or 2 rig components in them bugger all in the way of rare roids either. Probably scanned full systems about 30 times since learning the skills and got jack sh*t for it.
Only ever had one esculating path which popped up a message after taking out a building, it gave me the system which I couldn't wait to enter into my search bar on my map and then low and behold it was 25 fr*ggin jumps away with an hour to make it (may have been 50 minutes can't remember now), with 5 jumps through low sec space which was unknown to me....needless to say I couldn't be arsed down to the time restraint and location.
Spent 7 hours that particular day, wasting time and money on probes and managed to get less loot than in an easy lvl2 mission.
Rather than forcing players out to 0.0 to hunt for stuff (that is probably only down in Delve) maybe this idea should be ramped up a bit for those that wanted to get into it to make a bit more ISK and find unusual off the beaten track stuff local to them (weren't these complexes supposed to move about all over New Eden randomly or did I misread a DevBlog???).
....haven't bothered since and don't intend to untill CCP make it more fruitfull and more local to those stuck in empire. Know of at least 5 other players local to the system I'm in that have come to the same conclusion and are extremely dissappointed, it's a big shame. C'mon please Devs, deliver the excitement you promised in that blog....and make it accessible to all.

Slightly off topic - but I didn't find a topic yet.
Since last patch it was getting harder and harder to find signatures at all. Due to the rising amount of players scaning you are only getting signatures up to DT+2h - afterwards all are found.
On tuesday we had to undergo a second downtime - my luck. I was on fast and found an unkown sig - found the plex fast and went in with my Domi - could handle all the rogues (thanks to T2 drones) and got en EXPEDITION. I followed the path as fast as I could (due to lowsec passages I had to refit WCS and Inertias) and after aprox. 4h I was due for the fifth leg - in a 0.3 system. Carebear that I am I checked the passage and a corpmate scouted and I had to give up due to several high skilled pirates in vicinity.
My Points: a.) Devs - plz go over exploration design to give normal working players a chance to even get a sig - I scaned several days 20+ system to end up with a gravimetric signature - the bones left from the timezone or playtime favoured players. b.) Devs - plz go over exploration design - there are a lot of players that are well off having 4-5h to play in a row. When it takes 2-3h to find a plex and you won the big one with an expedition - you lost because you have to let it time out due to the fact that you have to go off. - PLZ implement a feature to expediton that lets you PAUSE till your next online time. c.) Devs - plz go over exploration in means of "carebearism" - not everyone is a "lowsecian" - some due to lack of SP, some due to other facts. Risk vs. reward is ok - but scaning 4-5h each evening ang getting NADA as reward isn't worth at all. Otherwise be consequent and change marketing slogan for EVE to read "live in 0.0 or quit" - there are thousands of players enjoying the game in highsec and they want to participate in most features of the game - under the rule of risk vs. reward - but also keep in mind "effort vs. reward"
I am playing MMORGs for 4 years now and am enyoing eve due to the fact that there is a good support by GMs - I have heared that devs are also player oriented - hopefully I will find some of my issues to be addressed at a time.

Spot on fella, off topic I know, but, I am getting more and more disheartened by the way CCP are trying to push us all out to 0.0. Revelations so far has been a big let down for me personally, exploration seemed a huge plus point but it has been nothing more than a big let down. With the emergence of the Factional Warfare if you want to get involved with your empire based characters it will make all your trading and R&D agents skills go to waste....as you wont be able to travel through the various regions to get to the damn agents of your race (as they are spread so damn far away) and to "the" markets.
Why can't you make it so everyone has an equal chance of being able to participate in new features....rather than forgetting the bread and butter players. At the moment you have to be in 0.0 to benefit from everything it seems....when you have corp mates with lesser skills or new players this just isnt an option unfortunately.
I'd love to be able to sign up for a tour of duty with a certain race in the future, but be able to get on with everyday routine stuff I have become accustomed to for so long, as and when I wish. It's not a case of having to adapt....more like a case of having to give up on the things you trained hard for...waste of time if you ask me and lack of thought.
Going back to R&D, u have to get good standings to be able to use the agents so therefore your pinning your hopes on one race, now that race has its best agents in another races regions but when you go over the -5.0 mark you are screwed for getting there....it just don't make sense to me.
CCP need a bigger "think tank"...

If that's really the case, then there is no point in me - a US/Pacific customer - to bother with exploration at all. It sure goes a long way towards explaining why I have not found any signatures whatsoever in the past two weeks of trying.
Do I have to keep European hours to play the fracking content I payed for? That wasn't in the TOS.

OOOh dont bad mouth the exploration. I am finding it great. Its not always a big pay day but even in empire it can be. In the last few weeks I have discovered a huge pile of invention parts (over 50 mills worth in 1 plex) and the first plex to elevate to full exploration I followed the thread and got a very nice gisti a type small armour repper. Also countless other smaller rewards.
As for the rats - I say bring it on. Lately I have been noticing that there have been many more big ships in the sites, but that is a good thing. To explore successfully you need a fair ammount of skills so it makes sence that it will not be noobs looking. It also then makes sence that there should not be noob rats to go and fight.

Exploration is not only profitable, but damn addictive. The rewards are hit and miss due to the chance factors involved. But very worthwhile, on a bad day I get nothing, but a good day can yeild over 300mill in just a few hours.
To take advantage of exploration you need to skill up hard for it though, firstly you need the astrometrics skills, then hacking and archeology, mining skills will be usefull as well, oh and combat skills are a must.
And on the whole I explore mostly hi-sec, have had faction kit from expeditions, and a few dead ends as well (would like to know whats in the drug lab if anything in guristas lookout expedition). The hacking sites yeild a lot isk wise, archeology hasnt been as good for me but my skills are lower in that
Yes it's frustrating to get haunted yard and lose a bunch of ships to it (happend to me as well, manticore and gila dead) but TBH thats down to me thinking I could breeze it, I couldnt and paid for it
On the whole I like exploration, it needs ironing out a little more, a few buggy plexes about still.
Gonna give 0.0 exploration a go soon, just gotta get a team together.
