I declare myself the undefeated Battleship Champion of Eve. Prove me wrong and win billions!
Battleship Championship Tournament:
The goal is simple: Defeat me in single combat, in a battleship and fittings of your choice. There are no restrictions. Be original!
Backstory:
Why havenÆt you ever heard of me? IÆm not a 0.0 player, nor have I ever done anything noteworthy. In fact, I spend more time in a Hulk than I do in a combat ship. ThatÆs rightàIÆm a carebear! An interesting territorial dispute over belt mining rights not long ago between my Hulk and someone elseÆs Retriever led to my first PvP experience, and it was the most invigorating thing IÆd ever done. I joined Eve University to take some classes and learn some PvP basics, but at the end of the day, I think a true test of skill comes from pitting yourself against an opponent boxing ring style, rather than the gank-or-be-ganked that prevails as the current state of PvP û thus the tournament.
Did He Say Billions?
Yes! I have contracted a third party to hold the prize fund. Templar Qou, CEO of Synergy (IRON director) has graciously sponsored the prize fund. See his confirmation post below. The prize is based on a 5:1 bet. Whatever you wish to wager on the fight, I will match by 500%. Betting ranges are determined by your ability to fight in high security space.
Bets for High-sec enabled players: 100,000,000 û 1,000,000,000 Win: 500,000,000 û 5,000,000,000
Bets for High-sec disabled players: 500,000,000 û 1,000,000,000 Win: 2,500,000,000 û 5,000,000,000
Your bet x 5 is the prize fund! Bets are placed prior to the fight. Claiming your prize is a simple matter of one of the referees validating your victory.
Rules:
1. High-Security system fights have no restrictions on attendance (see Rule #2), and will be based on can-flagging, subsequent mutual aggression, then movement to the fight location safespot to begin the fight.
2. Low-Security fights will take place in prior-established systems. No players from challenger corporations or alliances are allowed in system during the fight. Fight systems are isolated enough to make mistakes improbable. Violation constitutes forfeiture.
3. In the event of a non-corporation related potentially hostile fleet entering the system, fights will be postponed or moved. Event Security has been arranged to insure the integrity of solo combat. Event Security has been contracted to The Devil's Rejects (TDEV).
4. Duelists will be in gang with referees. Leaving your gang constitutes forfeiture.
5. Cloaking, warping away, and disengaging (increasing your distance to more than 200km) from the fight all constitute surrender.
6. Starting range will be deferred to challenger preference.
7. Fight durations are limited to 2 hours.
Can I watch?
Spectators for low-security fights are not allowed. Spectators for high-security fights may watch in shuttles. For fight times, challengers, and to purchase tickets (5,000,000 ISK) EVE-mail my Public Relations Manager Dodiez. If you are at war, you may not spectate, so bring an alt! Spectators will be capped at 50 per fight.
WhereÆs the scam?
This is either the worst conceived plan EVER to steal a billion ISK or less from someone in the galaxy before the tournament collapses as a hoax oràit isnÆt a scam. :)
How do I sign up?
EVE-mail me with the subject ôFight Requestö along with your availability and the amount you wish to bet. If you canÆt afford to participate, you shouldnÆt be participating anyway! Have skills and no ISK? Get corporate sponsorship!

Now that you know about the tournament, what about the man behind it? What about Curzon Dax? Well, you probably know him from his Eve parodies, made popular by the Eve-Idol contest on Eve Radio. If youÆve never heard of him, check out this link (Curzon's Parodies) and hear some of his work. Or read his Eve stories! (Curzon's Stories) . HeÆs also an industrialist; he moves around researching and mining, he runs missions in Empire. Yeah, heÆs a carebear, so whatÆs with this contest?
He sees this competition as the culmination of all of his training, research and reading about Eve up to now; his vision of what he wants part of his Eve experience to be. He also sees this contest as true PVP. 1 vs. 1. One player pitted against the other, with all their skills, gear, and reputation on the line. He wants real PVP, without the epeen strokers, blobs, kiddie pirate griefers, gate campers, and gankers. It's the only genuine way to find out if you're better than the other guy. (Or girl, but we know that no real girls play Eve) Ultimate Fighting Championship...in space. 
Now he's willing to put his money where his mouth is. Is five billion isk a lot? Depends on whom you ask. Depends on where you are in your Eve career. It's not really about the money, but who can say no to FIVE BILLION ISK?? Can you?
Is this is scam...I know lots of you are asking that. Quick answer is: No. There's really no point to it being a scam. The prize money of five billion is already being held in escrow, just see SwigsÆs post. The contest security has been set up. These people were contracted far in advance. Sure, he would probably be able to scam one person, but the person would flame in the forums and that would be the end of this epeen-wagging contest, and who would want that? Honestly, you do not know what he has gone through to set this up. This is for long term, people. This is for real.
Come on! Put YOUR isk where your epeen is. Win enough isk to bathe in, or to buy some sexy Minmitar slavegirls! You think you can beat him, right? Well, I guess weÆll have to wait and find out. Put your mad skills to the test against this crazy carebear!

Also, I'll be selling spectator tickets for every high-sec fight for 5 million isk each. There will be a limit to how many spectators will be allowed, so when the battles are posted, reserve early. Only shuttles will be allowed, and if you're at war or your security status means you canÆt come to empire with the other carebears, you'll need an alt. There are other rules too, so check Curzon's post.

This could very easily be a scam...
1) You are an alt...
2) You want to take "BETS" not offer a prize...
3) You want to allow 50 spectators in low sec... Are u a lil retarded? The spectators could very easily shoot one of the fighters even without being at war...
4) Why not just STEAL all the bets and leave? Nothing is stopping you, you are an alt in a nub corp, and YOU ARE RISKING NOTHING.

Sounds reasonable - and you've made a mistake in your post. He said viewers in *High* sec, not Low sec. So unless a shuttle can somehow cause damage to a battleship, I think thats a fairly safe way to do it.
Curzon, give me a few months to earn the ISK and train the skills, I'll give you a go. For now though I'll just have to watch.

Trevedian, fights are one at a time. There's no collection of bets into a pool. A single person enters, bets, fights, wins or loses, and moves on. Thus...either I'm going to scam one person in the whole universe before I'm revealed as the oddest concieved scam in the galaxy or....its not a scam. Don't be a trolling noobtard? Thanks. :)

*laughing* No, I don't have 8 scorpions and a Raven. I have one of each of a bunch of different things, and I'd like to say that I can fly and fit them all pretty decently.
Really, this whole thing is about an ENTIRE subculture of Eve that forum-trolls and waves their Epeen around about how big they are and how awesome at PvP, and they could kill you and your friends blindfolded and in an Ibis. Don't you ever get tired of it? I do, so decided to step it up and call them out. :)
This whole thing is about calling out the trolls who brag about how awesome they are, but haven't ever engaged outside of their blob. You know, Ginger Magician, Tiller, pretty much every pirate ever, half the alliances.....this is for them.
I mailed invitations to select individuals / alliance leaders / etc. but thus far their smack remains just that...smack that they won't back up.

What knowledge is provided before the fight? Will the challenger know what ship you will come in? Does the challenger have to tell you about his or her ship? When does the range requirement have to be communicated? In short, how much information is exchanged in advance of the fight that could affect strategic decisions about what to bring to the party?
This looks like great good fun.

Trubba: Nothing is communicated. After a while, everyone will know the ships I have to play with and how I fly them. I don't disclose my ships and fittings, neither do you.
Starting range is up to you, the challenger, and you will disclose that to your referee seconds before the fight starts - your referee will warp you in at whatever range you wish to start. I won't know what range you're coming in at until you show up at that range.
*EDIT* Basically, when you want to fight, you provide days and times that work for you, then we coordinate on our end to make it fit. You're provided with a day, a time, and a location. When you get there, your referee invites you to the gang, picks you up, and brings you to the dueling system in your combat ship. I'll be waiting at a safespot with a cargo container. Your referee will warp you to the safespot and you'll steal the cargo container. Since I'm in an NPC corp, you aggro only me. I'll plink a single shot at you to return the flag (and since you criminally flagged me first, I will aggro only you.) Now we're both flagged to only each other.
At this point, I warp away to the fight spot. You will tell your referee what range you wish to start at, and he will gang-warp you into the safespot at that range. =)

Mate u clearly have a bad case of bitter victim complex.To my knowledge u have been podded on at least 2 occasions at the Snowy camps.
To say that u could beat me in 1v1 combat is laughable and ridiculous.To fight u would be like Mohammned Ali taking on Audley Harrison - a total non contest a legend versus a laughing stock and I am not gonna waste my time with it.
I have more solo bs kills than any other player in eve history and more total kills than any other as well.Octobersnow corp under my guidance has made more kills than the likes of BOB Goonswarm and many other ongoing and failed allainces.

I haven't been in lowsec since. Don't you listen to my songs? I'm a carebear. :) Don't make up stories about your elders.
Ginger, we KNOW you have more kills than any other player in Eve History. You kill shuttles and noobships with a carrier while your gang scrambles them. That's not skill. THIS contest is skill. If you have any self-respect, any skill, or even the tiniest of testes, feel free to look me up. :)
