I considered that, but even if/when they take the local list out, I'd still really like to be able to get rid of all those portraits (in corp, alliance & intel chans). I don't intentionally pull them up and all they do is take up space as it is.

I was thinking about something similar the other day, then I remembered people talking about how local is supposed to be a 'chat' and not intended for use as intel. But really, it makes sense to have an intel log of people in system to me. Imagine that stargates log entry in and out of systems and they send out data which can be recieved by the pilots in space.
so now that its acceptably used as intel moreso than chat, lets get rid of all the silly user-pics, im sick of guys with last names starting with Z sneaking up on me!

A summary like that would be awesome - but contrary to their 'local shouldn't be for intel' policy (or plan, at least). I can understand not wanting to add a feature that increases it's use or effectiveness, but right now, it is an intel tool, and it's also a really really annoying interface. If we have to use it to remain competitive (which we do...), interacting with it shouldn't detract from eve.
Until the 'local as intel' problem is solved, can we at least have a local that isn't as cumbersome?
