Thing is, shuttles tend to have rather weak tanks

Other than that it takes time to lock them and they are hard to hit when using large guns.

Well yes, they do have an extremely low sig, making them hard to target or hit. They have a nice base speed of 625 m/s (with the all too standard navigation skills), are agile, and they are absolutely immune to nos.
In every way they were designed not to use in combat, not having slots or a drone bay. So I can understand why you shouldn't be able to assign fighters to it.
Regardless of that, I hear their tank kinda sucks though.

I was testing out my shuttle the other day trying to get a passive tank to work for those times when I go out low-sec gate camping with an Aeon and a Amarr Shuttle.
The shuttle managed some good DPS but it just didn't seem to tank well against the sentrys.

TBH if you'd assigned fighters to shuttles and killed me I would have laughed, and been impressed. Somewhere on the C&P forum I mentioned the War Wagon and how I felt it was a pretty clever trick.
Credit where it's due, my man. If you think I've got something against INFOD, you're right, but that doesn't mean I'll change my view about something if they do it. 
Others, however, may not be so understanding and you're probably right that you'd get some significant flames.

After reading this thread something came to mind.
If I worked for CCP I would switch the graphics between the fighters and the shuttles just to see the anarchy it would cause
Granted it would be the first and the last day I worked for CCP but it would be worth it

That is a nidhoggur, an amarrian fighter used by templars. It doesn't tank as well as a shuttle, though.

No, you would not. You would have put on a smack concert in local like you did the last two times INFOD entered local with you around, and then you would've run off to the Galnet to proclaim to everyone, what noobs we are for not putting our ships on the line.

Secondly, you really don't know a thing about me and can't make that kind of judgment about what I'd do. I congratulated William Hart on his scrambling hauler, so I already have evidence that in the past I have approved of clever/devious tactics by INFOD. Hopefully CCP nerf shuttle-fighterbombing pretty soon. So INFOD can return to its usual business.

Anyone fighterbombing in a shuttle is pretty suicidal, to be honest.
I've tried it in various ships including inties, frigates, AF's and even a HAC once or twice.
But never a shuttle.
Besides, what's the point? I hear they don't tank very well anyway.
