With the latest blog about nerfing the Privateer Alliance, thus cementing the notion that PvE players shouldn't need to PvP if they don't want to, I demand that us PvP players are treated equally.
To support my PvP I am forced to operate a second account and grind missions, something I find extremely lame and boring. I am thus forced to PvE against my will in order to engage in the parts of the game I enjoy. This is completely unfair.
In order to rectify this and bring equality back into the game I would propose that PvP players get a separate market where all mods are available free of charge. The PvE players can keep their own market. Further, all our ships should be free, and we shouldn't have to pay for clones or implants.
Implement these changes so that us PvP players can engage in PvP and not be forced into PvE against our will.
Thank you.

I think it's only a fair adaptation of the normal PvE player's demand to not be forced into PvP. I only feel that equal treatment for all is the way to go.

Edited by: Naike Pwns on 18/04/2007 13:02:57 Make a system like in guild wars. You chreate a new character, you can choose your equip., skills (what you have unlocked with your role playing character) and you get all for free, then you can later on buy equip., skills for "PvP money". Ofcourse the PvE characters could PvP too.

Here's where you went off the rails. The change to wardec pricing (which you refer to as "nerfing the Privateer Alliance") doesn't prevent Empire PvP in any way, shape or form. All of your complaints about being forced to play in a certain way stem from that confused interpretation of the changes. Empire wars will continue, 'bears will still get ganked, cries of "Griefer!" will still abound.
I do find it very amusing that you label people as either PvP or PvE players, but unless you can gank the PvE crowd then zomg PvP is borked.

Obviously, in reply to the OP, you need to win more fights and get more loot. That's how PvPers make their money.
Or how about the good old days of ransoming instead of just killing to get the mail for the e-peen board.
I can just imaging Blackbeard losing the Q.A.R. and swimming back to Port Royale asking for a free replacement. "Well I should be entitled to one, seeing as the traders are protected by the Navy.!"

You already have that Ki An, its called SiSi.
Want to pew pew all day against everyone without any cost or repercussions there is your answer.
As for the "nerf" of the Privateers, that wasn't a PvP nerf, that was a warning that you can't wardec everyone all the time. If the Privateers had stayed with their original concept of only deccing the big 0.0 alliances it wouldn't have happened, but instead they went on this little rampage and wardecced 149 alliances and corps in one week. Then claimed they were going to again.

So PvP should be limited to the test server? Meanwhile on Tranquility, PvP players are still forced to participate in PvE and PvE players can opt out of PvP. This issue isn't adressed in any of the replies.
Why should I have to do something I don't enjoy in order to enjoy other parts of the game if Joe Carebear gets to opt out of the things he don't like and only focus on grinding for isk?

Privateers didn't put enough effort into recruiting Dev or GM alts clearly.
The Privateers are the biggest war in Eve, certainly in terms of tears shed. The pointless war against Devs in BoB and LV is just a blip compared to what Privateers acheived.
Privateers didn't reward known cheaters with entertaining PvP, unlike the donkeys who think BoB deserve more Eve.
Alas they didn't get enough headlines or column inches in the media or the Eve login "news". So the Secret Aurora program is doing away with this huge war because it hasn't returned the kind of results a bunch of cheating exploiting liars has.
I don't think PvP is dead. It just got kicked in the nuts and will be taking deep breaths for a while.
PvE ain't that bad though, as long as you don't do it too often. Although I am a little bit sick of my 100% "Dead End" record on Expeditions.
Here's hoping that the next bandwagon is bigger, better and far more intrusive than Privateers ever were. Anything is better than 0.0 and not knowing whether your enemy is bankrolled by CCP or not, but it's even better if your bandwagon is actually interesting in itself.

You know there is a magic function in game called "People and Places". There you can see *gasp* the employment histories of various characters, including me.
The reason I care is because of the glaring injustice involved in that my playstyle gets continually shat on while the isk farmers and carebears (who just as well could be playing WoW or happy-go-lucky-let's-hug-each-other-land-adventure) gets all the love.
Here's my ultimatum. Either you, CCP, implement these changes so that I can have fun, or I will have fun by especially targetting the weakest carebear corps I can find and continually hound them until they quit EvE.

When I think about it, this is quite an interesting paragraph. You're basically saying that CCP didn't nerf the Privateers because it was necessary, but because of too much forum ruckus. This means that you will openly admit that CCP caved in to the whiners, and the carebears won the day because of excessive forum whinage.
Perhaps we PvPers can give this a go now. I say, shut down NPC corps, force people into low-sec, and further nerf warp core stabilizers.
Come on, boys. If enough of us whine they'll eventually change it.

Well, I could make money from PvPing, but with all the loot thieves around in Empire it's damn hard if I don't go out into low-sec, and out there noone flies anything expensive.
I could try scamming, but I'm sure that's not what you mean as a way to make isk.
I could deploy a POS, keep it fueled with ice I would have to mine, or buy with isk from other forms of PvE.
I could build stuff, but I'd have to get the minerals from mining.
Is there any activity in EvE that makes you money without having any connection with PvE, except for inferior methods such as piracy and scamming?

If you're not a Privateer I don't see why this should bother you at all. PvP has not been 'Nerfed'. Most Corps/Alliances should still be fully capable of running multiple wars for an extended period, the only thing this change means is that you can't turn Empire space into 0.0 without paying through the nose for it. Which is as it should be.

I think it will be highly unlikely that there will be a seperate market for pvpers where everything is free.
Also fly cheap ships and use cheap modules when you go into combat. With a little luck you can break even when you sell the loot of your victims and recover the losses with this alone.

Guess it depends how you want to define PvP. If for you that means only shooting someone else then you're SOL as that leaves pretty much everything else in the PvE realm.
If you care to think of PvP as extending to markets and such then a LOT, if not most, of EVE is PvP. I promise you for builders PvP exists quite well in trying to control markets. Maybe not your thing but there just the same.
You could try trading. Find a few good trade routes (not as easy as it sounds to find juicy ones) and you can make a nice bankroll. Yeah carebear city driving around ina freighter but can be fast (relatively) and lucrative.
As for making money off pirating I know many do unless pirates who post to these forums are all liars. Some are quite wealthy. Perhaps you are going about your thing the wrong way.
And as has been noted in no way was PvP nerfed. If you cannot see that Privateers were clearly bending a game mechanic far beyond what the Devs ever envisioned for it then you are delusional. You can still wardec and pew pew as always and in Empire.

I allways thought, that what makes eve-pvp so good, was the LOSS of items, which meant (grind)work for you to get them in the first part?!
So, IMHO what you want will make pvp in eve less fun as it is now (adrenalin rush and the like..), right?

Run missions until you have a decent amount saved up, say 300 mil or so. Learn the market while doing so. When you have a good foundation of isk to work with, buy low sell high. When you get into things like faction mods and ships, the profit potentials are really lucrative. Do it long enough, well enough, or just get lucky enough, and you will get to a point where you only have to play with the market once you get to a certain threshold. It's important to pick a threshold that will work for you - set a certain wallet balance that you will not go below except to use for trading to make more isk.
I find missions boring as hell too, but running the market interests me. A side effect of this is you will have access to very nice mods to give you an edge in pvp, and if you lose them - oh well, chances are you got a hell of a deal on them anyway! Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

Edited by: Nysander on 18/04/2007 14:43:59 Edited by: Nysander on 18/04/2007 14:42:57 I think you have one thing wrong with your initial post. That is that it has not been the Empire hugging carebears that have been moaning about Privateers the most. It has been the 0.0 Alliance jockeys that want to have their cake (0.0 pvp free for all) and eat it (come in to safe empire and shop, run missions for isk).
I am an empire hugging carebear and I happen to think Privateers are the best thing since sliced bread. They give the 0.0 alliances a taste of what its like to be on the end of NBSI.
How many times has a pvp'er said "Eve is a pvp game", "no where is safe", "fly with escorts","can't handle it stay in your own space".
Basically Privateers handed those retorts right back at the 0.0 alliances.
Empire hugging carebears are not the biggest whiners in Eve. Those are out in 0.0 alliances.
Nerfing Privateers is a bad call.

Ok, with even devs posting in this thread I think it's time to apologize.
I guess sarcasm don't go across well on forums, but I figured if I made the demands silly enough most people would get the point. Seems some did, but most didn't. I only blame myself for that.
The point of my original post was to mimic the cry of many PvE players who say they shouldn't be forced to PvP because they don't want to. In order to show off the rediculousness of this statement and put it into a context they could understand I created the original post. I tried to spurr it on with follow up posts, but too few got the point, so I don't think it's fruitful to continue.
I believe EvE would function best if everyone would just accept that other play styles exists, and that those play styles can, and will, have a direct impact on you wether you want to or not. This, in my view, is what makes EvE a great game, and separates it from all other MMOs. Piracy will exist, and industrialists need to learn to defend themselves using in game means. At the same time, prices on the market are affected by those same industrialists, and pirates and PvPers need to adapt to this.
Hopefully a constructive debate can come from this. Otherwise I again apologizing for my inability to make the point clear enough.

Well last time i checked the best PvE resources (both missions and ore) are not placed in Jita.
So by comparison if you were to limit yourself to cheap non-named t1 ships then your PvP could be self-supporting, unless you suck at it. But if you choose to get the more expensive stuff you need to do PvE just like the PvEer who would want acess to the best PvE resoruces would have to go into 0.0.

Perhaps if you had asked for a big red insta-kill button to kill your targets with folks would have seen your post for what it was...
I still think we need to thank the Privateers, the WarDec System was broken and needed fixing, had it not been for the privateers, it would not have been fixed.
On another note, Privateers are the ultimate PvE, Privateers vs Everybody

All wrong, you must be joking, but I'll tell you why. It wasnt a Priv nerf, it was a "not working as intended, because you were all super greedy bastages" fix patch. PVE'ers and Empire people can still be decced, as you well know. While on the subject though, in the interests of equality, I demand that prats who scan out missioners in LowSec and force them to PvP get agressed by all the rats soon as they enter. You make us PvP, we make you PvE a bit, all fair eh?

When I think about it, this is quite an interesting paragraph. You're basically saying that CCP didn't nerf the Privateers because it was necessary, but because of too much forum ruckus. This means that you will openly admit that CCP caved in to the whiners, and the carebears won the day because of excessive forum whinage.
Perhaps we PvPers can give this a go now. I say, shut down NPC corps, force people into low-sec, and further nerf warp core stabilizers.
Come on, boys. If enough of us whine they'll eventually change it.
/Ki
Nah i think the devs where like: "oh no another dual wreck ownage thread.. another Privateer whine thread. lets look into what there doing then" and after that they just changed the system to something a bit more realistic :D

Originally by: Ki An Ok, with even devs posting in this thread I think it's time to apologize.

Yes of course, CCP staff, some of them with long PK carriers on other MMOs are PVE orientated. With completely broken system that hardly allows you to do missions with several people together, where there are a several dozen missions so that you become sick of the grind in less than a month, with all that, CCP are PvE orientated. Yeah, and im Miss Universe.
And the danged topic, AFAIK you can have 10 war decs for old costs, only after the 10th war dec it starts to raise prices exponentially. Being wardeced allows you to defend yourself, and costs you nothing.
So, what is your problem then. War dec have not been implemented as a mean for legal piracy in high sec, believe it or not.

So everyone else in the game spends hours and hours from mining to mission running maintaining POS's etc etc etc. just to get isk to keep things going but...
You want anyone who PEW PEW PEW's to get free or dirt cheap items so you can go out and gank every other player, steal there mods and make a double profit...
Okay now I understand... Sounds like you want a FPS game where you log on kill things for a few hours then leave again. Hmmm doesn't sound like EVE.

The problem I have with random PvP that I don't seek out is that it is generally a fight to the death, and more often than not a fight to my death as I've yet to be engaged by an underwhelming force.
Rather than fight to the death, I'd be perfectly happy to fight till I'm a bit poorly, for some PvP action.
I think it really grates on me that my time taken to buy and kit out a ships is likely to be just some amusement for a bunch of teenagers taking it all away from me.

Though there are certainly some players who have already amassed a great deal of wealth and equipment, this will not affect your ability to advance in the game competitively. There are starting areas for new players where you will be safe until you have gained enough skill and experience to venture out into the wilder, more aggressive areas of space.

Edited by: Senghir on 18/04/2007 20:20:22 Just adding my piece here. I'm a PVE-er, I have to say I don't like the amount of flaming that gets associated with someone just because they choose PVE. I'm not a 'carebear' because I choose PVE, it's just a valid choice that I make based on the game mechanics presented before me. If I don't want do PVP as a main objective, then I don't have to, and no-one has any right to try to make me. What I do accept is that there is always a risk. I like this risk. I'm not against PVP; if I get attacked I will defend myself to the best of my ability. Moreover, if I was cruising through low sec space and found an enemy of our alliance, I may even attack them! This said, I do enjoy the relative safety of PVE. To PVP means I need to spend a lot of time getting a ship together, and should that ship be lost, I am forced into finding some way to make that money back, spend easily up to an hour buying the new kit and picking it up before I can even begin where I left off. Now if I lose that ship, I'm royally screwed. I mean, to force PVP like some suggest would easily make it possible for some [insert insulting name here] to effectively spawn camp me just because he/she is a [expletive] and I'm unlucky enough to be the target of them. As a PVE-er I get to choose when I log on, and when I log off, and also what I do with the time I give to EVE. With PVP and the constant threat of frequent ship loss and therefore grinding for and buying a new one, my time is not so much my own choice. I can wholly recognise that some people may love this side of it and that's great; it's why PVP is a fun and valid choice, but it's just not for me most of the time and I like the fact that I'm allowed to choose.

I believe what the OP is suggesting is essentially Counter Strike in space. Basically you want to dumb down EVE to the point it becomes as mundane as a gazillion online FPS games out there. Really i think it's time online games became more intelligent, more sophisticated, more evolved. Not that I am saying that EVE is the best example of such but at least it tries to be more than one dimensional in it's gameplay.
I still cannot fathom why those who love combat PVP are not out there shooting each other and instead choose to whine that they can't get no action. Go to low sec, go to 0.0, have a ball man. People b*tch and complain that other players who have all their skill points put into non combat pursuits, a.k.a. carebears, don't want to fight them with all their combat skills and uber combat ships. Well DUH!
For that matter the upcoming releases are all towards a thing CCP calls Faction Warfare, not Industrial Revolution. All their promo vids are of war, war, war. So you know I think it's time that the steroid injected pitbulls of EVE stop foaming at the mouth so much and realize the nice big bone CCP is giving you.

Or organise frigate fights in your alliance; easily replacable ships, tons of fun if done right.
Sure PvP loses much of its appeal when there's so little riding on it, but wouldn't that also be the case if PvP players were excused from the little amount of grinding they have to do to get their fun?
The OP might have been sarcastic at first, but with so many people whining seriously about similar subjects in other threads, it gets hard to distinguish, so you'll have to excuse us.

I dont understand the whole "pvp is dead or dying" posts that have come about since this change. Privateers exploited a flaw in the system to be able to war dec dozens and dozens of corp/alliances for so little cost.
The changes now make wars more serious. Now you have to actually prosecute an "EMPIRE" war to its fullest unless you have money to throw away. Otherwise you have to move to low sec or 0.0 (oh noes!) if you want to get some real pvp.
Maybe I'm just used to 0.0 too much.

Ironically, the only way PvE players can opt completely out of PvE is to join an NPC corp. PvE players can't run every single complex, so why should PvP players have free reign to PvP anybody they like? Well, now they can't.
And what do PvP players get out of having control of low/0.0 sec? PvE activities,,,,,,
Personally I love the development of how PvP is not the same as Alliance fighting. How doing nothing but hunting people is not the same as eliminating people who threaten your resources.

I see this as a narrow minded and ignorant view. There are 2 types of PvP direct and indirect. PvP refers to any action where a player compeats with another player.
Direct pvp is going shooty-shooty bang-bang purdy explosion, of which you refer to as the ONLY type of pvp.
Indirect pvp is what I follow, I beat people to that mineral buy order, that nice trade route and I sell that ship for cheaper than someone else. I sell loot, buy minerals for 0.01 isk higher than someone else, construct weapons and ships, while all the time having to be aware of the market around me. I am compeating with other players for that sell, for that purchase, for that asteroid, for that npc rat.
Carebears PvP all the time, it just takes more effort than going f1 f2 f3. _ Check out my blog at RantingsofaCarebear.blogspot.com Privateers: Those who don't adapt become victims of harsh irony |

Yes CCP (and most MMORPGs) usually cave in to the crowd who whines the loudest, and no, thats usually not the PvE people as far as Eve is concerned.
FFS you can still war dec companies. You just can't war dec 20 at a time, and all that only concerns high sec anyway. What moot points. --

Originally by: Ki An Ok, with even devs posting in this thread I think it's time to apologize.
I guess sarcasm don't go across well on forums, but I figured if I made the demands silly enough most people would get the point.
Okay, I should read to page 2 before posting I guess.
Disregard my other comments then. In the beginning I thought you were sarcastic but the follow up comments tipped the scale, and my sarcasm level 4 skill has simply been overstreched by people actually making such demands on the Eve forums, or in other words - in this game it would have not surprised me anymore if someone posted that and be dead-serious about it.
Cheers --

don't hunt in jita or rens, problem solved.... next.
i don't hunt in jita.
lootthieves specifically ask in local if there are any privateers around to steal their loot, they chase our gangs to steal loot...
and theres nothing we can ******* do about it because it are all alts

Originally by: Ki An With the latest blog about nerfing the Privateer Alliance, thus cementing the notion that PvE players shouldn't need to PvP if they don't want to, I demand that us PvP players are treated equally.
Thank you.

Dude i wish i knew where you are getting this Info from....As far as i know theres alot of PvP going on. And if a player doesnt want to PvP so be it. they wont know the gratification of owning someone in a fight. I dont see anyone forcing you to PVE at all.
This game allows you to choose either to PvP or PvE and you trying to say that your being forced...Thats all you and you shouldnt put the blame on anyone but yourself.

I tried something similar in a PA whine thread with the "OMG loot vultures are EXPLOITING GAME MECHANICS - nerf nerf nerf nerf nerf" and most people there didn't get it either.

Alltho i think OP is being sarcastic, but if not..
Having a seperate market for pvpers where everything was free, would be the end of pvp in Eve. We might aswell go play WoW.

Edited by: M4sterm1nd on 30/04/2007 22:05:01 Ki, having read your last 10 posts, there's nothing sarcastic about your reaction. Particularly iconic was a phrase in reference to exacting revenge : "I would say this is EvE in it's purest form" (source). To you Eve isn't a game. It's a platform to vent. You're angry at something, and want to make people hurt. I understand the emotion, what I do not understand is why you hide in computer games and don't just go out and violate young girls. They scream much louder than freighter pilots, and not just in local. As an extra bonus, you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that your violated victim will probably never recover from the experience, whereas the freighter pilot would be back up and running in a week or two.
On that note, g'night mate

I understand that you somehow felt angered by my pointing out that you missed the point of this thread, and that you wanted to strike back at me, but bringing child abuse in to the discussion isn't gonna fly. Might work on the SA forums, but I highly doubt it is ok here.

It is so easy to gank a care bear mission runner in low sec that it is stupid. What you wanted was to be able to kill any freighter you wanted in 1.0 systems. Too bad.
