Don't focus on the end, it comes to everyone, but on the path they took.
Well done D2, and good luck to the corps that made up that alliance.

Certainly not for their love of D2. If that was the only element to the situation I'd agree with you. It's not that simple though. But if you were an alliance who considers bob a potential threat to your existance or space then it would still have been in your best interest to back up both ASCN and D2. (i'm not saying d2 and ascn were the same. just comparable situations) By backing up ASCN and D2 all bob hostile alliances had the opertunity to confront bob with great numbers while in a situation that was not a direct threat to their own space.
If you've ever been invaded by bob then you know this is preferable to fighting them in your own space. It's hard to argue that goonswarm would not be better off right now if they had backed up d2 in fade, freeing up the north to continue to assault bob in their own space. Same goes for ASCN. If RA/GS/D2/AAA had all chosen to back up ASCN things might have gone a lot differently. That would have been the pinnacle of strength for the anti-bob coalition. Instead everyone decided they were too uber to be seen fighting for ASCN. They decided it was more fun to call them hobbits and talk about how much they suck. The result being the north has been crushed, bob are taking over the south, goonswarm having "unrelated internal issues". The ghost of Cyvok seems to be haunting the north and south atm.
Until the anti-bobbits pull their heads out of their asses and start basing their political/military decisions on what is best for their alliance's future long term there will always be another ASCN/D2/etc. Bob and co will continue to embarrass you individually since you have all proven you can't work together. OFC ppl don't like D2. and ofc you are right that D2 wouldn't have backed them up if the tables were turned. But its not about that.

Why would anybody want to back up D2? Whom did they ever help aside from IRON? The pets they let run up north were just meet shields that D2 never supported. They let alliances like FE, PA NBSI die when FIVE were attacking, they let FA, NORAD, goons in Syndicate die when BoB attacked them, they attacked ASCN while blue to them. Again. Why would anybody want to back up D2?
I couldn't agree more about D2. That's why we are in branch attacking them even though it is indirectly helping Bob who have set us to permanent -10.
Don't really argue with anything you have to say other than you seem to be leaving out the fact that ASCN helped BoB vs. D2 in Pure Blind and most of us in "The North" never forgot that. That is why most of us had little interest in lifting a finger to help ASCN.
Yes...the "smart" thing might have been to help ASCN, but "some things go beyond mere pragmatism" (quoting again a colleague of mine from another thread).
Just about everything else you say is pretty much obvious and well known. To be honest, knowing it is the easy part. Getting it done...that's the hard part.

It doesn't happen often, but I have to agree with a BoB member.

This has been the most challenging, rewarding, nerve-wracking, time-consuming, exhillerating, mind-numbing, action-packed war I have ever been involved in, and while it is not quite over, I think a tip of the hat is due to D2. When it comes to the northern alliances the smack/member ratio on eve-o, in local, etc. is one of the absolute lowest that I saw in this conflict. Even Flinx seemed to try to be respectful about smacking.
I think Seleene will agree that this war gave the leadership of MC a major paradigm shift vis-a-vis what we are capable of as an alliance.
I would like to thank those who helped us in Fade, Deklein, PB, and Branch. There is work yet to be done, though. Who knows what tomorrow brings.
Good luck to those leaving D2. May you find something in this game that you can have fun with. To those using this thread as a springboard for smack one way or the other, get over it. Be gracious in victory and defeat, and shut the hell up if you weren't there and are using second-hand EVE-O "news" alt posts as your primary flow of information.

And to the D2 guy talking about why they didn't help out D2's "begging for space" allies: You reap what you sow and you are paying for your arrogance and foolish actions (or shall I say non-action?) regarding your neighbors and allies who could have helped you.

Originally by: Darknesss I find it funny how the small alliances who are hiding behind MC and YouWhat got the nerve to smack, you took an easy ride to claim easy space. Its funny how the ones who did actually beat d2 (youwhat, MC) arent smacking them.
When this war is over you small new northern alliances wont last 5 minutes.
Interestingly enough. I was kind of thinking the same thing. Darknesss.
The problem with this point of view is the constant referals to YouWhat as being a major force provider in the Deklein and Branch campaigns. While they were present in large numbers in Fade, they were not in the majority of forces in the taking of the next two regions. Also bear in mind that the current owners of Branch are hardly new to the claiming and holding of territory against a determined enemy. As has been said elsewhere, time will tell.
Duly noted and I agree to an extent.
I'm sure you'll agree that soem of the yapping we're seeing is a bit unearned, though. That's the main point I wish to make.
YouWhat and Velios' crew weren't really in my mind when I posted.

Thanks to our enemys, specially MC for giving us some lessions in tactic and how to fight.
Thanks to our other enemys for giving us sometimes easy targets and the other day awersome fights.
Thanks to our allys for some nice multi ally operations.
Thanks to the D2 Members who stayed until the End.
We will see us in space guyes, if on the same side or in front of my guns, no matter, we will have fun again in the future
Remember, its not the first time the big north entitys die, sometimes there will be a new one, and i guess we have learnd from the past a lot

I'm just guessing here, but i think MC will be a target of BOB sooner or later. If you think of the following logic: An entity allways wants to get rid of it's strongest competitor.
So after all opposition in 0.0 and low sec are gone, the greed of BOB will want to dominate EVE and demand tribute of anyone whom lives in 0.0 or low sec. Even if you get a large allaince in empire going they will eventually become a target of BOB's huge war machine, simply because they MIGHT become a threat into 0.0, they are not "paying tribute" and they are target practice/fun to combat or go to war against.
The pets and the combined might will be quite difficult to withstand to any alliance or corp. Unless the Pets all riot at the same time. Witch i think is very unlikely.
I look upon the future of EVE-online with sadness. Because it's a great game in it's basic form. But when one entity becomes too powerfull it ruins the game eventually. I'm guessing that unless CCP comes up with a briliant scheme to dampen the expansion of BOB and it's PETS all of 0.0 will be unavailable unless you pay tribute to BOB in one way or another.
The more pets, the faster any opposition will crumble and thus BOB will get even more pets. Spiral of evil there..
EVE's days are numbered (a year, maybe 2?). I recon many older players are thinking the same IF my prophecy stands the test of time. -Toriatrix The Blackwater Brigade. |

Edited by: Cupdeez on 05/06/2007 19:40:18 well BOB normally likes to send in MC to weaken them then BOB comes in to finish the job. With D2 things were a bit backwards because of the 2 different fronts.
After having BOB set to hostile for the past 4 years and fighting them on many different fronts along with MC I do have to say a few things.
1.MC is far better then BOB.
2.I think to many people give BOB credit when MC should be getting most of the credit.
3. BOB is crap without MC

Watching groups like d2 and IRON who were so arrogant in the north to smaller corps getting rolled has made the last few months very satisfying! I'd like to say nice things about D2, but...nah. They don't really deserve it. They were a bully-blob for a while, acted arrogantly, and then collapsed like a house of cards as soon as any pressure was applied.
Way to go, MC, YW, BoB and all the rest! It's just a little disappointing the north folded up so easily. But then, everyone pretty much expected that.
So who gets saddled with Cassini now?
And when do IAC, RA, and AAA get the treatment, now that the Goonies are back to skulking in npc stations?

I'm not peaking into your killboards, so would'nt know for sure. But i do know for sure that BOB "helps" or at least "convinently" attacked Huzzah in the Huzzah vs FIX war..
And i'm sure BOB soaks up alot of the skilled ppl in the "PET-corps" (in exchange for ships/fittings) to make sure BOB allways got the upper hand IF the PETS where ever conidering to riot against it's masters..
(Friends do not extort each other, friends do not call each other "pets".)
Anyway, the death of a large alliance like Dusk and Dawn and ASCN is something we will see more often if i'm right. And even if you do not think i'm right in my theories, my point of view remains unchanged. The game is going more and more off-balance. -Toriatrix The Blackwater Brigade. |
