am I the only one who finds it very hard to spot inactive turrets quickly (e.g. after reloading, in a full rack of 8 turrets) when the green blinking ones look almost the same as the inactive ones with the green light at the top? :-P
Another usability disaster ...

Its Dire mate....I cant see if ON or OFF most the time and is a real bad problem.
Going to cause loads of hassle and YES before the flamers jump in I have tried various ways of making it easier to see but it basically sucks....sigh

Being somewhat red/green blind I can rarely tell if my ship is shooting or not anyway ... since like everyone else I have the sound off, too.
So not much of a change ... --

No, you are not the only one. And these days it appears that translucentness has the upper hand over accesibility...

Try being colourblind.
Yeah, I can't tell the difference between,
red/green purple/blue yellow/orange brown/green
Currently I mouse-over the module and look to see if it says active or inactive.
It works.
We had our words, a common spat. So I kissed him upside the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat. My name is Mud. |

I agree. Its even worse in systems with green colors in the background.
I had to switch to wide screen to be able to see the difference.

And while we're at it:
Could the Heat buttons attached to the modules be any smaller?

I'm also finding it hard to tell which modules are active or not, especially when they're are bunched together. I'm not even colourblind!
Thanks for the idea about playing in widescreen, I'll try it after downtime.

They're already way too big.
My main is a pvp pilot that swap targets fast, and often need to react fast + potential lags in bubbles/gangs etc, it's way to easy to accidently heat modules that you don't want to heat just by activating them.
I do use F1-7 to activate my guns, but what really bugs me is the mid/lowslots, modules you turn on/off often, mid-fight, and quite possibly while lagging.
Already hated it before RevII when you were clicking like mad and accidently dragged around icons and a third of the modules didn't even activate, thanks to lag. And yeah, I generally have 100-200fps, a damn fine pc/gfx-card and a 100/100mb internet connection. I can't imagine what this does to someone that plays EVE with constant lag. I just have small spikes when activating modules/loading after gates etc - and it's already bad enough.
Either way, to get back to the OP: I agree, the icons are not very nice to watch.

I know it's not ideal, but I'm partially colour blind and find it easier to use widescreen mode. Does the trick, and you get used to it after a while.

We don't have a drone UI when we don't use drones, so why do we have a heat UI when we don't use heat?
Also these two keep fighting each other on the bottom right corner with lower resolutions
And yes, this module online-offline-checking is annoying. A good workaround was setting the client to widescreen.
Anyway, beside other issues i think this was a great patch.

Could they not change the active module color to say, yellow? That'd atleast help a bit...

They could just put a little 3x3 pixel square in one corner of the module and make it black (module OFF) or bright yellow/green/white/whatever (module ON). All problems would be solved (color blindness as well) and we wouldn't need those CPU-hogging and distracting blinking effects.

Totally agree. The green heat indicator has to be changed as it is not clear at a glance if the module is active or not. Just wait till you in heat of battle and you will see the problem.
CCP, Please change the heat indicator to Blue. This makes more sense anyway, cool mod = blue, hot mod = red.
Active mod = green,

Quote: do use F1-7 to activate my guns, but what really bugs me is the mid/lowslots, modules you turn on/off often, mid-fight, and quite possibly while lagging.
You can actually change the key-bindings for ALL the 3x 8 Slots (Hi, Med and Low) to something that suits you. i for instance have the two right-most medslots bound to F9 and F10. That means i can activate my 8 highs plus two other modules with only the F-keys (without actually loosing any other critical key-bindings). I simply deleted the "help" binding (F12) and moved the map and mini-map over to F11 and F12. It takes a bit of getting used to but it's really practical because you can basicly drag any two modules you like into the two right-most med slots and then access them with f9 + f10.
for pvp i usually have my scram on F9 and my web on F10. it only becomes a pain if you're flying a scorp for instance.. becuase you have 8 + 6 slots that you'd like to access with F-keys but hell... usually i simply throw my usless highs down into the lows and move my ECMs to the highs..
i think you can help yourself a great deal by simply configuring the client to your needs.
edit: but you ARE right! it's still a pain not be able to tell if a module is active or not... with our without key-bindings. |

You're not supposed to play EVE as you would a "game", you're supposed to train skills and look at the pretty colors. Design is everything. Functionality means nothing in a world where people only stay for 7 months on average. By the time you start getting seriously anoyed with various bugs your 7 months are almost up anyway.
also yeah it's ******** gamedesign and i hate the ui guy at ccp and use widescreen while we wait for him to retire.
