Well just have a pvp toggle button. You are either in PVP mode or your are not. That's how WoW goes. PVP would then be reserved for planned fleet battling between Corps over territory. Looting someone elses wrecks or cargo will still flag you for aggression for 15 minutes as will attacking someone obviously.....but you will now only be able to attack people who have purposely flagged themselves for PVP beacuse they think it's fun and they think they have the skills. Also the flag/unflag button will have a 15 minute timer on it so you can't just turn it on and off when you realize you are in deep poo poo.
Without an implementation like this the carebears or whatever they are called will prolly keep quitting the game and the game will continue in this state of continued trial players who decide the loss of ships mony and implants due to .4 gatecampers is not for them (like me).

I believe that's what highsec is for. Once you enter lowsec, you click the magical PvP button you talk about.
So your idea is already implemented... Want more ISK? Put more to risk.

Eve isn't WoW, deal with it.
By the way, there are 100 ways to be safe in EvE. You just have to think, instead of having a button do it for you. And what player base loss are you talking about? Eve's player base are people who don't want a PvP button.
Doesn't it *warn* you when you go to low-sec? Why are you going, then, if you know the risks?

Well I was in a shuttle and just picking up books, I could live with t he shuttle loss and maybe even the book loss, but my rook implants from the completely unnecessary pod popping. That made my mind up about paying to play. As I'm sure it has for others as well, hence the super player base of 30,000 or so after several years of the MMO's life. Not very sportsman like to pop a shuttle craft and kill the pilot for fun. At least I didn't find it fun! So I guess this isn't an MMO for me.

So, u want to move Dreads, Frighters, Titans, Towers, etc. safely to the Target System, while the enemies can only watch you?
Then u spam some towers to get souverainity, and when u have enouth people over there and feel conftable to attack, everyone turn the pvp flag on, to shoot at .... Shhm ... wait, who can they shoot, if the targets have not activated their pvp flag either.
The targets propably laugh at the attacking force out of their barges and hulks because they just started a mining operation, and until the station is down, the ore is refined and on the way to empire, and will be sold to .. Shm ... people who lost ships in a Mission ?
Fantastic prospects, seriously, that what eve is all about

Every single way to earn ISK in this game is here ONLY, and I mean it.. ONLY to spend the ISK on PvP. Really!
NEWS FLASH: The absolute majority of those highsec bears are alts for PvPers!
If you don't fit in such game, then it is defo not for you... Why the game has much less players than WoW? Well that's obvious - it doesn't have the PvP button, non-consensual combat. But just take a rough guess how many of WoW players are mature players? EVE is complicated and as someone said - you have to grow up for it. Most of the big bad alliance leaders are actually mid-age persons, some even quite successful in their lifes. People play the game and enjoy it, the complicated game EVE is. Some don't like it, they quit the game. That's only better for game community - only quality players stay. You get enough monotony at work. Don't need to run the same missions, kill the same rats, trade the same stuff over and over again in game. When you login to EVE, you want something different. - the feel that is unique to EVE, the feel when you fight and you have something to lose, unlike other MMOs.
That is what major player base in EVE is. If you don't fit in it, there are many more MMOs available in market - free will to choose any of them.

Oh.. I bet CCP would throw up like 2000 more servers with 5 people each on if they thought the idea was any good but it isn't since this setup simply is better.
YOU agreed to go into lowsec, you were even warned that it was dangerous, you still went and then when bad things happened you changed your mind. I point at my first post in this thread for the reasons things are like they are in this game. Now, since you are leaving, can I have your stuff?

the non consensual pvp attracts more than it looses, i think you'll find very few player's in eve want a silly timer like this, they enjoy the risk's, if you dont want to pvp then dont go into low sec, its as simple as that
if you dont like the non consensual pvp then WoW is the place to be, and ill think you'll find eve is consistently growing in number's. 1 or 2 whiners every week on the forum's doesn't show a trend at all, everyone looses ship's, the difference is people who whine about it and people who get over it, the first being a WoW suited player and the second being an eve suited player
i dont see many people agreeing with this tbh, even the carebear's, this would cost eve a large portion of their community, loosing ship's costs them a tiny portion.

As someone else has said in this thread.
TROLL.
But for the interest of adding something constructive: avoiding PvP requires some brains and preparation and not a magic 'PVP - TOGGLE' button. Actually, there is one: it's the undock button. Don't undock and you will be safe.
If you're transporting something valuable: WTF were you doing it in a shuttle? Use an interceptor or a BC. Did you use a scout to check ahead? Did you use the MAP?
I hate using the 'this isn't WOW' argument but it does appear that for some, EVE-Online is not the game for them.

Yes avoiding PvP does take some thought and I happen to find the "Run for the Hills!" while being chased very fun. All I ask is that we are given equal footing and balance when it comes to this style of game play. That being said:
It is unbalanced.
I speak of the Warp Core Stabilizer.
CCP gives the gankers a tool to carry out their griefing. A Scram. To balance this this they give us lowsec ratters/mission runners a WCS. Ok sounds cool, a tit-for-tat.
But wait a minute! The scram has no gimp factor. The WCS has a nasty gimp of cutting your targeting range in half. There is a 2 point scram, no such 2 point WCS.
Where is the balance?
You griefers holler "Whiner!" when one of us 'wanna go ratting in lowsec' types complains about getting griefed in lowsec when we are just trying to do what we want in the game, yet are given the short-stick. I say it would be you crying and whining if we were given equal footing to do what we want.
Give me one good reason, sans whiney reasons, why this is so.
If scrams had a targeting/speed/rof/whatever gimp then we would have balance. If there existed a 2 point WCS without the targeting gimp then we would have balance. If there existed no 2 point scram, we would have balance.
Why, in this one example, does the game ignore the concept of balance?
Flame away or offer a logical reason, your choice. Nerf You! Buff Me!

A qite large capdrain for the disruptor ( for frigs at least ) and only 7,5km range for the scrambler are no "gimp factor" as you call it? Hells, you people have cloaks, local, gateguns and the map to defend yourselfs against pirates. Why do you keep asking for more?

(a) CCP already gives you high-sec, you're safe there. If you want higher reward for no risk, again, then, no, that doesn't work.
(b) CCP wants, as they said, you to commit to a fight. You can't have a get-out-of-jail free card and have an effective combat ship.
(c) If WCS had no penalities or 2 points then: - you'd have no chance of killing a pirate, because they'd all be using it - pirates would keep killing you, they'd just take one more tackler with them
You say "getting griefied in low-sec" and "just trying to do what we want in the game", well, piracy is a way of making ISK (worse then carebearing most of the time), not griefing (this is a PvP-centric game after all), and they're just trying to do what they want in the game.
If you don't like it, carry guns. Bring in numbers. When there's no police (concord), who has the bigger & more guns sets the rules. Carry warp scrambles, not WCS.

I have to agree with the majority of the players here, EVE is a pvp oriented game and even so there are some of us who do not do pvp, the industrialists rely on the pvp people for their business. This game has so much to offer and I find it more challenging than WOW or SWG. So I say take it in your stride and have fun, CCP will be offering more content soon and the expansions are free.

It's local chat, scan and safespots that you should speak of, not stabs. I used to rat in low sec a lot for months. Got caught 2 times, once because of scraming rats and belt being just next to gate the attacker jumped from and other time because of too much chatting and not being careful. Both times it was the other guy that didn't make it.

What you have to understand is that EvE is built on player verses player combat. In high and low sec, you are never completely safe anywhere in space. You are given plenty of chances to avoid entering areas where pirate (and may a just say what a hansom, noble bunch of players they are) may be hanging out.
I have a suggestion for you, if you donÆt like PvP and want to limit your pewpew stay out of low sec. Change your AP to high sec only. If you really donÆt ever want to be decÆed or PvP, then I suggest you dock up. Cancel your account. And go back to Warcraft.

Actually dear Sir/miss. Thats not how WoW does it. Thats how the WoW PvE Servers does it. The PvP servers are only safe for the lower levels, after that its free to gank any wartargets just like in EvE. Well except taht these days there are no ppl outside the instances anymore.. so its basically a BG grind... So i assume even on PvP servers these day they got a PvP toggle (Battlegrounds on of off) :/
EvE is a PvP game, and as such it focus on PvP and doesnt see a need to put up another MEGA-SERVER for a Pure-PvE Aspect of the game.

First off thats around 170,000 subscribers last i knew =) its just 30k online at a time roughly. Also, the dev's have stated that NO space is safe(Including 1.0 space) so your PvP toggle button is quite literally "Undock". They have also stated that eve is not some fluff game eve is a game that is entirely revolving around PvP. As for your safety in low sec... You get a warning that pop's up on your screen BEFORE you jump they were not lying when they said its not safe. I suggest if you do not want pvp or if you want consensual pvp you go here:No PvP or here:Consensual PvP
In the end EvE is not for everyone and that being the case I bid you fair well if your leaving if not then gl there are 3 types of people in this online world Wolves, Sheep, and Shepherds. Which one are you? -----------

First the steady loss of subscriptions is just nonexistent. Carebears argue since 2004 (just dig up some old posts - they're extremely hilarious in retroperspective) that pirates destroy the game and will make all of them quit eventually and stuff about the economy dieing etc. Since then the game has grown enormously and so all the carebears were proven wrong. You are just the next generation of whiners, nothing special.
Second what you probably have realized is that no one really wants you here. So why should anyone be changing his attitude to make you continue playing? Well to me it seems rather encouraging...
Propz to the people that made you quit, i hope their contribution to eve community service will be honored one day.
Also why would you enter lowsec (noticed the warning?) when you don't want to pvp? I mean this is like well errm very stupid!?

I for one support the use of a PVP flag.
Of course, since you can PVP anyone anywhere in eve if you're willing to suffer the consequences, it won't actually do anything other then give a nice flag for pirates to know who to attack because they aren't setup correctly for PVP.
It would also give anti-pirates something to do, Set the flag to non PVP, and wait for pirates to attack.
Why, this idea almost sounds like faction wars...... ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

EVE is about real gain and real loss. Who the hell gets killed by gate camps that badly anyway? I had two characters for two and a half years in EVE. One died to gate camps 2 times (during my noobish times), second character died only once because I was too tired and just kinda went to a wrong system...
At any rate, the "loss of player base" caused by piracy is minimal. People always quit games because they get tired of them, and if dieing couple times makes them quit, it means they would not enjoy the game in the first place.

well most of the others already replied about pvp
one thing though , if you re afraid of loosing implants , the jumpclone system is in game .
so you can easily avoid loosing implants if you sometimes wander the below 0.5 , use a fresh , very pale , unused , unimplanted jumpclone for those adventures , and once done with below 0.5 , jump back into the clone with implants

Didn't bother reading the rest of the thread.
You just don't get more than 50% of the fun that is EVE. PvP is fun. Avoiding PvP is fun. You win PvP if your nanoed hauler escapes that camping Drake. You win PvP if you fly a cheap ship and make far more isk than you lose.
It's a shame you lost all your stuff to a 0.4 gatecamp, but, well, if you didn't anticipate it then you didn't get EVE. If you can't adapt to it you'll never do well in EVE.
You flag yourself for PVP as soon as you leave Hisec.

The new patch notes state: - A new PvP toggle switch has been implemented in 1.0 - 0.1 security systems. When enabled you will be completely safe, you will train at twice the normal rate, and angels with sing to you and feed you grapes.
To balance the new PvP toggle all damage-
- All damage types have been changed: Thermal is now Love, Kinetic is now Joy, Explosive is now Peace and EM is now Goodness. - All ship resists have been changed to reflect the change in damage types. - The new damage types cause 0 damage when hitting any players ship only NPC will be damaged. - A new marshmallow cannon has added it adds 10% sweetness modifier to the target. Why are you still reading? Its over. Continue to the next post.

Originally by: Yoshi Horohito Well just have a pvp toggle button.

Yoshi, Eve is EXACLY like a pvp server on WoW, with the exception of losing more then just time when you die.(Unlike in WoW)
On a pvp server in WoW, you have your none-contested zones (newbie zones in wow), those are your basic high sec zones in Eve. You can pvp in those in both games but mostly only if you are flagged.
Then you have your contested zones (anything lvl 20+ in wow), those are 0.4 and lower sec systems in eve, where all forms of pvp can occur. (again it's the same in both games)
So in a sense, what you are asking for is a none pvp server. For a game like eve that's based around pvp it wouldn't work.
That's the nicest way I could put it really.

OMG, IBTL! Let the flame fest begin, my friend.
My opinion, no, and double no. Eve's unrestricted PVP system is what makes this game great.
Not to mention, the loss of ships and modules to pvp is what makes the EVE economy function.
A PVP button, ala WoW would accomplish a few things. First, it would ruin how many pirates in game make a living. Second it would seriously damage the eve economy. Third, well, third, it would just lead to pirates/pvpers leaving in droves.
A better solution, if you don't want to pvp, is stay in high sec, and don't join a player corp that might get war dec'd.
If you can't handle that, find that boring, whatever, perhaps WoW is a better fit for you.

Thanks for putting all arguments without the good words. Anyway, to counter it, I believe we all know how it was like before WCS nerf. And I do believe nobody would want that back. On the other hand, there is some logic in your argument. But there really is no way to level scram vs WCS without doing more damage than good. Warp scrambler atm is very well balanced and should not be changed. It does its job fair and good. Any change to it would most probably ruin it very much. So unless you can come up with a good boost to WCS that will not make it a standard fit on all PvP ships, I don't see there is any change possible in that end at all. Atleast I can't think of any good boost.
Now the other problem is the low population and reward in lowsec. Risk vs reward ratio in highsec and in 0.0 are much higher than in low sec. LVL5 missions might give it that slight boost, but will not be enough. Something defo needs to be done to revive lowsec, so that 95% of its population wouldn't be full-time YARR. Until then, pirate entities can enjoy claiming the king of the worthless hill. Why YARR in lowsec for pennies, if you can live in 0.0, do same PvP and in the same time earn 100x more than the lowsec pie? Gatecamping Amamake for ISK? C'mon, get real, it ain't as fun and far far less profitable. Whatever you do: or , you always end up having better reward for it in 0.0 AND highsec for LESS risk. Profit vs reward in lowsec is completely broken.
Sry for the troll in the end of post, but it just illustrates the difference between 0.0(and even highsec) and lowsec profitability perfectly.

Eve online has over 100k paying subscribers. The 30,000 people you are talking about are the people logged in at any given time, which, by my estimation being that they are logged on to the same server, is one of the greatest things about this game.

Edited by: Karlemgne on 03/07/2007 22:58:16 It is unbalanced.
Actually, I think it is unbalanced in the favor of the non-pirate. Have you ever tried to live your life as an outlaw? You can't enter hi-sec, you have to buy things, when they are even available, at inflated prices...
You have a permanent war dec on you. Anyone can engage you anywhere, without having to worry about sentries. In fact, pirates cannot even count on help from their corp mates, as attacking an outlaw pirate, does not flag the aggressor to the pirates corp.
You cannot complain about leveling the PVP playing field if you've chosen to not train any combat skills, anymore than I can complain about not being able to mine, refine at 100% efficiency, or be able to pilot Freighters. That's the way the game works.
I speak of the Warp Core Stabilizer.
Actually, I'm of the opinion that the semi-recent pvp nerf of stabs on combat ships did not go far enough. The other day I engaged a Fleet Issue tempest trying to pirate other players, he had 6, yes 6 stabs. to balance this this they give us lowsec ratters/mission runners a WCS.
Yeah, you already have that.
But wait a minute! The scram has no gimp factor.
And it shouldn't. This game is built on PVP, and what you are basically saying is, you should be able to avoid pvp by making scrams un-*****ble on the ships of those who might try to kill you.
There is a 2 point scram, no such 2 point WCS.
First of all, there IS a 2 point WCS, but its an officer mod. Second of all, those 2 point scrams have a very limited range (7.5k.) So that is balanced, in order to catch you, someone needs to get very close. Most times, if you have a WCS, you will be able to warp away before someone gets within that 7.5k module range. You griefers holler "Whiner!"
Please define griefer? Do you mean players who make a living, in game, by blowing up other people? Believe me, its not about causing grief, its about enjoying PVP and making a living doing it. If you feel that strongly, that eve pirates equate to griefers, perhaps a pvp oriented game such as this is not for you.
we are just trying to do what we want in the game, yet are given the short-stick.
Again, who is given the short stick? You can go where you want, when you want with no restrictions.
Furthermore, you are asking US to give up doing what WE want to do in game. A more or less untenable position.
Having said all that, sure, you want to do what you want to do in EVE. Unfortunately for you, EVE is the game that CCP has made it, not the perfect game that you want. Game mechanics restrict the both of us, and we have to operate within them. This is EVE.
