Originally by: CCP Sharkbait please keep sending in the logfiles, we still need all the information we can get.
You send me ISK and I'll start up the log tools that suck up system resources I need to keep my game running. We are not beta testers. We are not CCP employees. We are players. We are paying customers. So get some of the Devs to stick all of their BoB characters in systems where these problems have been reported and reconstruct the event. I'm sure there are enough petitions with full descriptions of lagtastic events and even killmails to help you reproduce the issue in a somewhat controlled manner.
I'm from the same alliance as Liquids, and can attest to the lagbomb that fubared the fleet engagement. We had gone up against a slightly smaller group of better fitted ships, looking for a good battle, and got massacred because of the lag. They experienced it as well, but as the "incoming" fleet, it destroyed us.
And as Liquidswar says, logging 23/7 isn't a feasable option. It's too intensive, and among other things can mess the game experience up more than the lag unless we wind up in a 15v15 or bigger battle again. Side note, region is Khanid that can't handle any serious fleets. Next door Kor-Azor managed to handle a 50v120 POS assault *barely* (terrible lag, but no dysyncs. wasn't playable, but it was low enough we achieved the POS kill).
Additionally, I can't stay in contact with a player from the other side of the engagement, and keep asking "how many ships do you guys have?. Would destroy the chances at a tilted battle for one side or the other, so can't use that to find out if I *should* turn logging on (which also requires a reboot if memory serves correctly.
So yes, CCP, if you want these events logged, please keep a staff (even volunteers who just show up to log) on hand who can be alerted ahead of time by players (keep their names publicly available, or have their part of the petition system work quickly (2-3 minutes tops). If we have a fleet of 15 ships, and intel is telling us the enemy has a fleet nearby as well, it would be very effective to just petition for a logging observer, and thanks to the /tr command, the observer could easily avoid entering the fight while still observing quite effectively.

I can't wait to see what this breaks. Hopefully it doesn't effect the 1337 things like bombs or triage mode. -------------------------------------------

Normally I'd say test on test servers, but I'm probably not the only one that thinks you might as well release that fix on tranq, you'll know soon enough if it worked or not.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but Kieron just posted this in the patch announcement:

well CCP if u need expiriance with the courent state of the game from a players perspective and lag I am sure Outbreak and other people or corporations would love to have u on board for a while and create the environment needed for such a testing. Mybe sisi is a wrong adress for that since the are differences in player count aka connection count, load on the nodes,...
So I would suggest to make a Tranquility test day and designate a region (mybe the Jita area?) for testing that would contain multiple nodes and ask the people to come there and fight it out hard core style. I am sure that alot would love to do that (if assets returned ofc ;) )
That would not affect anyone in terms of market mechanics ect cos u would just undo the day/week in witch this would happen so no harm done just helping yourself basically.
Think about it
Best regards Shalimar Fox

I think this is the part a lot of people are having problems grasping, it doesn't necessarily need large amounts of people, or fleet battles going on.
I would've sent in a log file, but I've yet to have a Desync happen to me yet.

My suggestion is create a low res alternative to the game interface or a slim client where ships are represented by simple box wireframes or 2d icons so all of the shaders, effects, trails and other laggy features are removed from the equation. Let the guy running fraps be the lone ship cloaked in normal mode while everyone else fights without all of the lag in safe mode. I already play EVE with audio disabled. Give me EVE without the graphics when I want to play lag free.

oh its a good thing is a high priority issue. Its so nice that you are bothering about stupid little things like reactivated accounts being offered a tutorial. Its nice to know that insignficant useless code changes don't get burried under our insignificant high priority issues. -------------------------------------------

ok, i will give you all the bad news. i have ran out of beer at home.
other news the fix didn't work, but that not bad news as such. we know where the problem is now and there is a lot of focus going into fixing it. once we have a fix and QA feel it's safe to deploy, the we plan to get it out onto the server asap.
once i have more details, i will spam the forums with them. if you want to keep submitting bug reports with logfiles, please do so. they will not be deleted. they might even help further in the matter.

i know putting dates and what not is a big no no for testing purposes, but since you have dignosed the problem, do you have an idea on a solution or is it more darts at a wall and hoping something hits home? -------------------------------------------

it's not me fixing it, Richard is handling it. i feel safe to bet he will have it fixed tomorrow. if anyone can fix it, it's him.
there is a wee problem where this requires a client patch, it's too late to get it out in tomorrow's patch now. but there is a patch for the python2.5 upgrade and the target date for that is a week tomorrow.
once i have more details, you will also have them

Will you be asking the 3rd party company who got all the email addresses of people who quite eve over the past year to reissue their 'come back to eve and try it for free for 5 days' offer, when the server and game is once again playable?

was this a test of removing the constant polling of each player? if so when it goes back to each client being polled again, wont the lag +++++?

Quote: Hi,
Thank you for contacting us. We're sorry for the late reply.
After a careful review of your case, however, we are unable to verify your loss in our logs as being abnormal in anyway, because of this we are unfortunately unable to reimburse your ship. Actually there could be other possible reasons for what you experienced, such as localized ISP problems, software conflicts, a corrupt cache and so on and so forth. All issues we can not verify and must refuse. Sorry.
Just let know if you still have any questions though. Thank you.
Really? Other possible reasons? I see.
