People moan about the loss of 1 v 1 pvp, in my eyeÆs a lot of this is due to the WOW style game play eve is becoming known for! Logging off has become such a problem that you need a gang to take down a target ship in the minute before it vanishes before your eyes in the frustrating culmination of an hr of your life!! But now this gets worst people can now make there ship vanish warp scrambled in an even shorter time, I wont give to many details here in the attempt to have some targets left in space. They can even dodge the 15min aggression timer if aggressed well still in the game by the same method!! Something must be done or the game of chance I love so much will be dead.

Dear CCP,
According to you (CCP), this is a non-petitionable action. You let your GMs spend their precious time answering petitions with "Unfortunatly this is non-petitionable" when they could have used that same amount of precious time just dealing with the problem.
The last 3 years I have seen patch after patch making carebearing easier and easier. Now, you top it all with NOT fixing something you clearly see as a cheap trick yourself.
You (CCP) say that: Logging of cannot be distinguished from loosing connection, that is a blatant lie. You can perfectly see this and distinguish between it. If someone loose connection their aggroed ship stay in space for 15 mins. Easy as that.
On behalf of 200 pvp'ers loosing a significant number of kills every day from this..

you could fix this by have the ship warp of normally somewhere for 15 minutes, like the place you log in from and have to warp back to your original posistion, but if it is scrambled then it can't warp simple and logging wont save you. Vanishing is just stupid...

And as much as i hate to put the two next to each other.
In Wow you cant just log off can you? You have to wait 20secs and you sit ya arse on the floor - and how hard can something like be to implement?
someone presses ctrl+Q - then gets a pop up asking if they want to log off and then they have to wait 20secs?

Ok well first off I totally agree that logging off with aggro needs fixed, BUT and read this carefully you are not able to tell the difference between logging off your client and loss of connection! I have lost connection in the middle of fights before and its a pain, and other people in the gangs i've been in have said that I remained there because I was warp scrambled, and then I lose a ship due to a loss in connection usually finding myself back in a pod.
Now tbh CCP should fix the whole jumping through a gate and losing aggression thing, cause thats a pain! I also think the aggression timer should be increased to about 30 minutes, and if you jump through a gate and immediately log then you should stay there for 15 seconds at least giving the people on the gate a few seconds to star your aggro timer.

Thanx for input so far;
I have to say that it is possible for ccp to spot the difference between connection drop and logoff; I am just not gonna reveal the log off tactic here so more people can use it. Believe me it is possible to see if someone does it deliberatly.

The solution for this can actually be found in World of Warcraft (and probably a few other games).
When you log out in space, add a 1 minute timer. If you're attacked by a player during that time, apply the 15 minute PVP timer. If not, the server tells the client that it's clear to disconnect when the 1 minute timer is up (after which the client disconnects).
Lost connections should be treated the same, with 1 minute for other players to extend the timer.
I know this sucks to ppl that lose connection every now and then, but unfortunately the problem has grown way out of proportion and really needs to be dealt with.

This is a good solid constructive proposal, i like it. Problem is, "people" want a solution that can differ between log off and disconnect. Your proposal doesn't do that, but rather treat both the same (as EVE does now) with its rules.
In WOW, if you log off in an Inn you bypass the 20 second wait pretty much the same happens when we are docked. If you log off outside an Inn, you have to wait those 20 seconds with the danger of getting attacked in the meantime. Same goes for EVE, with the 1 minute cloaking delay (except the gate problem I guess).
So this all goes down to a rule change, not a bug fix.

They can't have that though, because then ppl will just log off by pulling the network cable.

No more logofskis please. I use it sometimes, actually, but then I wait 15min for my aggro-timer to disappear (no exploiting here), which basically means that the hostiles who are camping me in (usually why I have to log off) have a lot of time to probe me - if they want. As we know the major problem is that CCP can't track if there was a log-off or connection cut-off. A client crash could be possible by sending data but I am sure then it's just a question of time some clever guys will give us an log-off-app which kills the client and sends fake data.
Whatever you try to figure out there's no real fair solution.
But IMO the one and only real solution could be to set log-off and disconnect on a same level.
I mean EVE must suck if you have an unstable internet connection all the time. To enjoy the game it should be the responsibility of the user to get sure that your PC and internet is running as good as possible. I have sometimes also random client drops or connection problems due provider issues but I could live with that risk. The annoying logoffski-tactics is more worst than random unstable connection problems. Ofc due Murphy's law it happens in the most worst case. But so what.
So my proposal is probably not agreed by CCP due their fear to loose costumers. To kill logoffski means: log-off or connection cut will keep your ship and pod where it is BUT I could imagine that the client tries to protect your ship by some kind of +auto-combat½ as good as possible. Probably it adds a better tank for a chance but you need to keep on going with the situation when logging back. If the ship is down the client will warp your pod out NOT to a SS. The pod warps to several system spots randomly and the opponents have a fair chance to catch it till re-connection. Just a basic idea.
It's a pain for those with unstable internet connections but I just say: fix it or live with it.

I don't know where this problems occurs. A titan was destroyed 14 minutes after the pilot logged off and I have personally witnessed that a warp scrambled ship will remain in space until downtime if the pilot logs off or is disconnected.
In what circumstances are you able to logoff and not be destroyed?

There is a way to distinguish the two, as Dr Kojak already hinted.

Now that would be a grade-A exploit, and totally a bannable offense as it interferes with server-client-data. As such, everyone using it risks banning of his/her accounts. _____

That is only true if the 15 minute timer applies, which this thread isn't about. It's about those who avoid the 15 minute timer.

well what should happen is that if someone log or loses connection they will ewarp to a ss. Then you have some time to go find them, if they are unagressed they disappear in ~2 minutes, but if they get agressed they are stuck there (so if you go in and start shooting the logged ship it cant just ewarp/disappear after the shooting starts) . Do not read this thread!!!
