OMG the lag is nuts!
IÆm sure this is old news to many of you, but being new to missions in Caldari space I donÆt know how you guys do it.
With all this talk about ôNeed for Speedö PLEASE just add some more high quality Caldari agents. EVE is HUGE, but everyone is forced into just a handful of systems.

umh...the need for speed is not for only a bunch of systems...it's for the whole cluster of servers, so don't complain about caldari missions so much, there was lag before and there is lag now...maybe a little less, but you can't get it all off :P

Edited by: Dr Kusanagi on 09/07/2007 20:17:30 Why is adding more HQ agents a bad idea? Just curious.
IÆm mainly a mission runner, IÆve seen lag before, but nothing like the amount experienced near the few HQ Caldari agents. 140 people in local is bad û but 140 missions running in a system is insane.
To the other poster I'm not saying that the speed initiative caused it, itÆs just my opinion that spreading the agents out more would reduce system-specific lag. Any easy fix with no real programing changes.
CCP has moved agents before to reduce lag, perhaps just adding a few would help. Just improve the quality of some existing ones and people would spread out a bit more and free up these systems.

I see three main problems:
1. Caldari are over-used. Many reasons, main one being the Motsu cluster of high quality agents with practically zero risk of going to lowsec. Something I know is a problem with Federal Navy and, though I don't do that much with them, I suspect is a bit of a problem with Amarr and Minmater combat-oriented agents.
2. Agent system is completely inadequate for the number of mission runners. Sure, when 15,000 were playing daily, it must have seemed fine. Maybe it was, but I was a nub and running Level II's. I think the number of agent-systems needs to be tripled and you could work it in with the role-play excuse of the whole "run up to war" thing they're trying.
3. Inadequate mission security. Hate to bust the whining pirates, but (as far as I can tell) the average mission runner's idea of playing eve isn't yours. Sanely so, most of us see no reason to offer ourselves up as cannon fodder in one of your gang-bang gank-fests where we're so disadvantaged we may as well push the self-destruct button.
Nor do a lot of us respect the needs of a group of players whose game-play "fun" is making the lives of others unhappy. You can wrap it up in ribbons and put a pretty bow on it, but your idea of fun is being an ******* to others. Many of us have come to the conclusion that the only way to win your game is not to play it at all.
Others, of course, will have different opinions on the causes and correction. But this is what I've seen the clearest.

i'm gallente too, increasing my standings with caldari. Just find a low-quality lvl4. better than lag
my suggestion doesn't fix anything either :(

Ah, IÆm near the Motu region you mentioned, no wonder IÆm having problems. The LP store is what attracted me here. I, and my alts have been just about everywhere, but this system is the worst (other than Jita). Other good agents have their issues as well but not this bad. Is there a problem with adding more high quality agents to the Caldari?
If itÆs an issue of fairness û add some to other races as well. ItÆs not about some sort of advantage, just population based scaling.
Every mission runner works their way up through the ranks pretty quickly, then everyone ends up as the same few agents.
I suppose I find it irritating, because itÆs so easy to fix. û Just add some more quality agents.

Just a suggestion:
Agent qualitiy is static now, why not making it variable, changing with every downtime?
Very frequently used agents, overloaded with work, stressed, drop slightly in quality with every downtime. Agents which are not so frequently used rise their quality with every downtime.
That would all mix around all the agent qualities, and move around people who just look for agent quality.

Or limit the number of characters of a particular race to be online at the same time. Fact is that there are just far too many Caldari characters, due to reasons not needing to be discussed here.
Of course you want the problem to be fixed the way that suits you best, but that is your perfect right.

Damn right - couldn't agree with you more on your comments re: pirates. Other MMORPG's have separate servers for those who seek non-consensual PvP. Call me a 'carebear' all you like, but where's the skill in five heavily-equipped BS's ganking e.g. an unarmed industrial? F###-off into 0.0 and fight a proper war if you've the guts.
Not sure what the best solution to the lag is - I know CCP are working on it with their 'Need For Speed' drive, but as others have said, surely it would help to have more (or wider-spread) level 4/5 agents to balance out the mission runners?

This is about the 3000th thread i read about the huge lag in motsu / saila / caldari good agent systems.
You know what? They'll never do anything about it. It would be a matter of minutes / hours to fix it (redistribute agents, spread more quality agents, etc), but they haven't done it yet and they won't do it in the future. They just don't care. Same as with Jita (which would also be fixed in a matter of minuets/hours).
It's a simple business rule: As long as people are paying, there's no need to invest any more work.
My suggestion is to wipe systems like motsu, saila, etc from your personal list of "existing systems". Apart from that, there's a better caldari agent then those anyway. -- This game is still in beta stage |

same like "we're boosting amarr" (which was ridiculous) or "there will be factional warfare" (which turned out to be just the same old static missions, just with a "5" instead of a "4") or "we are looking into fixing jita" (hahahaha)

that's very good point... pvp and pve fits are so compleatly difrent you cant seriously do both at the same time. Atleast for me being safe from gang bangs fests is more important than good quality.
But to make it more fair agents quality could reflect it's location in example q10+ agents would all be located in low sec and less than 10 quality agents could be found in high sec.

Sure I know. One of my main activities is to run missions, and I run for different agents and different factions. I carry all I need within freight containers, an empty loot container and ships within my freighter to the place i run missions for a few days. Ok, rigged ships have to get there separate. But thats not a big problem for me to carry things around.
And ... you're not forced to use the agent with the best quality every day. I usually use more criteria than only quality. Atm I fly for a Minmatar Lvl 4 agent, quality -10. Ok, not that good at getting the LP, and slightly less mission reward. But bounty is the same like everywhere else, and the system is a bit more quiet than the overloaded ones.

Jita is a different problem all together û I really donÆt see and easy fix for that one. ItÆs us, the players that made that system over populated.
However, when it comes to agents and agent quality, a simple change of a modifier number in a database could greatly reduce lag.

Ok, it's nice that some of you are happily running L4 missions for 3000 LP from negative quality agents. I'd like a bit more for my time.
We can all visit eve-agents.com and pick the best highsec combat agents. That's the problem. You can count the best agents of all the factions on the thumbs of one hand. Combine that with the LP store awards favoring Caldari by a country mile and you're going to get a mass migration of people to Caldari mission space, highest quality combat agents in said space in particular.
I predicted it, and judging by the rising price of salvage in other areas and the complaints about the lag my predictions are coming true.
"Move to a slightly infereor agent" is a lousy suggestion. It may work today, but if CCP intends for the game to grow (and they do) even the crappy agents will soon have 200 and eventually 300, 500 and 2000 people trying to mission there. It's only a matter of time.
There's no need for so many poor quality agents throughout the universe. Upgrade a few of them to 4/14 and higher from 4/-neg quality, and the lag will take care of itself.

Only one of us (me actually) has a negative quality agent (-2, somewhat higher effective). I could run one at a higher quality if I wanted but since we're about to move I haven't bothered doing anything. All of us (could) have Navy Ravens if we wanted.
I just don't see the point of getting a higher quality agent in exchange for more lag. I hate lag. It ruins the game for me. Higher quality only means getting stuff faster so that you run out of things to do earlier and quit the game.
In effect running highQ agents in a laggy system means you are putting yourself through hell so that you can quit the game. I already follow that strategy in real-life and when it comes to recreation I'd rather enjoy the experience and drag it out for as long as I can.
Like most things in Eve there's balance. Do you want to get [virtually] rich quick or do you want to enjoy playing the game?

He's not talking about negative quality agents and 3000 LP. Try looking arund in Forge. I get 7965 LP per harder missions. Should I want to make sure I never get low sec mission I would have to be content with 'just' approx 7200 LP per mission.
Granted neither of those is 'combat' corp so if you are after combat hardwires or navy launcher BPC's then lag triange it is for you unless you are willing to settle for a bit less than max quality agent.

Fair for who? For the new player that is doing level 1 agents and must go to low sec to get that level 1 +11 agent (same thing for the 2 +11, 3 +11)? For the player running courier missions? For the R&D agents?
Combat missions aren't the only missions given out by the agents (even if CCP seem to think that courier mission aren't worth a bit work. The interesting courier mission were cancelled with the july-august 2006 patches and never reintroduced).

QFT. Get rid of all those ISK farmers or at very least force them out of newbie corps (so that they can be wardecced like vermin they are), and watch how amount of pilots in those systems drops to half or less what it used to be.
