Where's your intel coming from? if you have any direct us to it. personally i think your talking to the wrong crowd about a blizzard mmo everyone i have talked to in this game hates WoW because the pvp is basically useless. But if it interests you that much then go, and hey i wont even ask you for your stuff but i'm sure someone else will

While I'm sure Blizzard would make a fine game, the simple fact is that Blizzard makes games to make tons of money. For that reason, it would not compete with Eve. Blizzard would not include the complexity, depth and risk elements that, for better or worse, keep Eve at a much smaller subscriber total. I seriously doubt vast numbers of Eve players would leave for something that, from their perspective, would look like a dumbed down but prettier version of Eve.
I think that most Eve players, even your empire hugging care beariest carebears think that the fact that you can lose your ship, heck can lose everything you've spent months building towards, is an important component. Consequences. It is what makes you feel like you are in a real world. A Blizzard game would not have this because it does not appeal to the vast majority of players, which is fine, but not how most Eve players (in my experience) look for.

Well, ahem, every corporation does. YES, even CCP wants money.
But saying Blizzard makes games to make money, is a load of crock.
They are popular, yes. They make money because of it, yes. But they wouldn't have so many players, for example, in WoW if things didn't work.
Right genre, right elements, top notch game(as a "fluffy" MMO like you guys probably say(which means every other then EVE )) and top numbers in players.
You can sell a pile of **** to some, but not to more people then are living in Finland!
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

I'm not saying Wow isn't a nice game (though personally I found it quite boring) and I'm not saying CCP doesn't want to make money. What I'm saying is that Blizzard games will be geared towards the mass market. While CCP wants to make money, you can't exactly say Eve is geared to the mass market. I doubt that most Eve players would like to switch to something more simplistic and, shall we say, 'kid friendly.'

EVE would not die, but it would lose a fair amount of players if Starcraft online had better PvE than EVE (Almost a slam dunk guarantee) And if it also had true safe zones, where there is no griefing. (Also very likely...)
EVE would most certainly see a drop in numbers...
But that would be good for the PK'ers in EVE, as they hate Carebears ruining "their game" anyways...

Actually, it's almost 95% of the time that games are somewhat designed for the "casual player". No company in their right mind begins to make a game for the hardcore fans, or a select agegroup, or even for a certain type of people.
I bet if you asked a CCP employee(i'm thinking), they would say that although they want to keep their vision, keep the game nature and keep the playerbase happy, they would hope that they could bring it to a more casual crowd also.
If the game makes it and is popular, is a whole different ballpark.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

If SC2 ships out and will be close to EVE (gameplay), then EVE dies. Since blizzard knows how to do balance and not making ppl wait 6+ monthes to start playing.

It would happen like this:
PVE'ers would leave EVE for what would likely be a better PVE experience in the next sci-fi space MMO. At this, the PVP players celebrate, as they are finally free from the carebear side of the game. Combat is plentiful and fun, until everybody runs out of ships and cash. Then much of the PVP populus leaves as well. And so on and so forth...
Until it's just 7 people running around in frigates. And man, it's gonna be fun

Unlikely...
There would be enough players in EVE who would want to stick around and do industry...
You would lose a lot of the solo-PvE type players. Mission runners, ratters, plex*****s & such...
EVE would probably be a better game, less lag, etc. It just wouldn't be good for CCP's pocket book...

Eve is the only game of its kind, nothing else can compare to the graphics. I've been playing almost two years and every time I warp to a gas cloud or a sun it takes my breath away.
However, due to the recent nerf of my entire eve career (drone nos boats). If WOS comes out and is any good I might have to consider. I only have 500k in gunnery and I feel like I've just started the game again trying to make any use out of hybrids.

the only problem with this is the only mention of a WOSC coming out seems to be a PCGamer article that says something like "blizzard has pulled the starcraft liscence out for two new games... is one an MMO??"
So It might well just be SC2 and SC: Ghost :p 2 days till im gone for good again

A lot of carebears play EVE because it is the only game that caters to their industrial capabilities. No way in hell is Blizzard going to make a game with a market even close to as awesome as that in EVE or even a craft system on the same magnitude of scale.
That being said, I would play the Starcraft MMO to merely reach max level. Leveling to 60 was awesome in WOW. Just the end game sucked ****.

CCP seems to think the opposite - that a game like Starcraft Online would actually INCREASE their subscribers. In an interview here, CEO Hilmar Petursson noted how many people come from other games to EVE, and that some time after Starcraft Online started, they would see Starcraft Online players moving on - to EVE. This is more than theory - some time after WOW came out, there were a lot of WOW players who moved to EVE.
Judging by that interview, a new sci-fi game would actually be good news. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

Active players would decrease for about 6 DAYS, then come back to EvE because they would already be at maximum level on SC2 and bored again.
EvE players are not out for instant gratification, that is what Counter Strike is for. The sweat and tears that goes into getting somewhere in EvE is what makes it worth playing

And do not forget about another important point, in case of a starcraft mmo or any other mmo alot of people will set a long skill to train suspent the account or if they have money they will not. play the other mmo for a wile and return to eve.
all this thx to the good the good implementation of skill-training/char. development |

I think some of the posters here underestimate the fact that even pve'ers (carebears) appreciate the complexity and risk of eve, though they may whine and complain about getting blown up. Unless this Starcraft game offered a rich market and an open world with the interdependence we see in Eve, I really doubt many people would leave. I don't think this Starcraft game would be like that however because I don't think Blizzard would want to make a game so complex for fear of alienating casual players (as happens in Eve).
