Sounds like fun. A lot of wild cards for sure to keep play more in the moment for sure.
My questions are:
1) What about some juicy details on the prizes?!
and
2) 2 Billion - was it always this high in tournaments past? Add this in to the cost of ship loss (I am presuming) seems steep to me. |

I imagine this is to discourage "joke" entries into the tournament. |

I think logi pilots will be a high priority for banning. It will be interesting to see if teams will field 'bait' to draw attention away from key ships/pilots |

I think the lack of broadcasts for the first 2 weekends is a bit of a mistake especially given that with a 50 point and 5 ship limit those matches should be relatively quick.
Banning is a bit debatable it may make for exclusively one sided matches which are not that interesting or a lot of very very dull passive shield tanked setups but we will just have to wait and see.
edit: Banning might be more interesting if it was a once in the tournament option similar to the fact that once a flagship goes boom that's it. It would certainly make its use even more tactical. |

You can only have one logistics ship... you can also have one team member banned before the match starts. What do you think is likely to happen for nearly every match?
(Assuming an alliance does the bare minimum work needed to get intel on the hostile fleet setup ahead of time so as to be aware of "false logistics")
Essentially... expect a lot of drakes.
Edit: I'm assuming the two teams can/will submit their banning choices before the match begins, and the "results" of those choices will be revealed simultaneously? As in, a team won't get to "wait and see" if one of their members gets banned before choosing to ban someone from the other team. |

Banning a ship? Sorry, but that idea is really stupid. That's got nothing to do with a PVP tournament if you ask me... |

Yes, the banning picks are submitted privately to the GameMasters and once both teams have submitted their picks or the time to submit the picks are over, we will remove the banned ships at the same time.
I would like to point out as well, that if you notice in the rules, the ships that are being removed does not count towards the points you get by winning a match. This means that if you need for example 95 points to win your group, and you send home a battleship worth 18 points, you may run into a real problem moving on to the next round. |

A certain Star Fraction alliance tournament team comes to mind for some reason. Best way to ensure the team isn't affected by banning is to make the team homogenous

By doing what, exactly? You can only fit reps, according to the rules, on logistics ships or strategic cruisers. You are only allowed one logistics ship, and if you try a team of t3 cruisers... well those ships look different depending on how you fit them. >_<
If a team is willing to sacrifice the points (and I suspect most teams would, making the point loss a non-issue), then logistics is pretty much removed from the tournament picture. Should make for quicker matches, if nothing else. |

while i can see some interesting effects to mess up the opposing teams tactics by banning strategically.
i also see this as way too disruptive to tactics and painfully disappointing to the pilot that was eager to fight and then gets sent home.
so another thumb down for banning.
EDIT: also banning == less explosions |

Another thumb down for the banning mechanic.
Yes, it adds to the metagaming side of the tournament, but it's incredibly annoying to be sent home after training during hours for the tournament and taking a day off from work. |

So my questions is this:
You made no mention of Radio coverage on the community stations as has been done in previous years. Will there be any radio coverage of the pre-qualifying rounds, or will there be no coverage of those at all? |

Two things imo: Knowing before hand who your opponents will be is stupid. I know metagaming is also a part of alliance tournament, but you can also overdo it, there is no good reason to do this and many reasons not to do it.
And well yeah banning, i am going to expect alot of logi-t3 combinations so the alliance tournament becomes a lottery if you ban the correct guy. Sorry but it is just a stupid idea. |

Bannings a terrible idea, at most it makes it funnier for the people watching/banning but it will take its toll on the setups fielded, who in their right mind is going to field logi in this tourney? even if used as bait its a waste of points.
If Banning has to be kept then keep it limited! 3 bans in the tourney or something.

Even as someone who will likely never be taking part in an AT, I'm really not sure I like that Banning idea. It will make spectating some matches very dull and boring, becuase if you ban the right person, it will completely destroy certain setups.
People train long and hard with their alliances with a certain setup(s), and to see it all fall apart because (for instance) your logistics pilot gets sent away just feels very harsh. Add to that the personal disappointment of the pilot that gets banned for not even being able to take part and I'm really not sure I like it.
Why not just flip a coin and see which team wins based on that result? Some matches will feel like that.
Regardless of how you think about it, espionage WILL reveal (particularly to those larger alliances) the identity of what pilot will be piloting what ship.
EDIT: PERHAPS if there were a limited number of bannings available for the whole tournament, perhaps, say, 2 per team it might be slightly better - but one per match is, I think, overkill. |
