Strange decission, but your call.
I'm not rly surprised by the ammount of alt-trolling. In fact, I thought it would be more. But I'm almost shocked by the complete lack of comments on the matches here. For sure there should be loads of pages discussing tactics and which teams that look strong. Are there no tacticly gifted pilots not involved in the teams? No pilots that want to comment what the other teams are doing? Ppl seem more interested in what outfits the commentators are wearing.
Whether my views on MC's chances are known or not, I'm rly gonna miss them. They've always brought it, producing matches that are very fun to watch. As well as being honourable. Heck, I recall in the 2:nd tournament, an MC pilot escrowed the modules he looted back to the beaten pilot for free. Would be quite a shock to see one of the [UDIE] guys whining about the "no looting!"-rule doing that, heh! Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

I'll make this one post to clarify things a bit so people don't get the wrong idea -
After one hell of a lot of talking with my team captian and pilots today, I gave the go-ahead to have our team withdraw from the tourney.
If you spend some time reading this forum you will see a lot of people spending more time talking about points and crooked GMs than the actual matches. Instead of sportsmanship and people wishing each other well, itÆs just turned into something else. One of my pilots said this to me earlier today:
"Gah... Eve-TV forum is CAOD part 2!"
Seriously, what's up with all the anger in here, people?
ItÆs not the new format; we love it. ItÆs the players who canÆt for one second seem to cut the organizers a break. All the work CCP has put into this, and nothing is good enough? The OMG CHEATERS bandwagon is getting tired.
There is also the fact that the game we play has a dedicated TV show, yet a vocal minority of people spend more time telling them how ****ty it is than thanking them for something truly unique and awesome in the industry!
We extend our sincere apologies to those who wished to fight us. This isn't about the trolls 'getting thier way' either. Are we fed up with some of the smack? Hell, yes, who wouldn't be? Overall though, having been through two previous tournaments, the ôfeelö of this one just didn't grab my guys and gals.
We don't expect everyone to be happy about this; we expect some of you to probably be plain mad. I am sorry if you feel that way, but this sentiment has been building for a couple days now among the people who have put the most effort into organizing our teams. I couldn't ignore that or them.
Jesus Christ. It's as close to a sport in Eve as you are likely to come. Sports by their very nature breed strong opinions, arguments and conspiracy theories.
You don't see major teams going "We're not playing because the papers said bad things about us".
Way to spoon on a the melodrama.

A lot of that kind of thing goes on on IRC. I had a few good discussions about matches on Sunday, and just didn't repost any of it again on the forums.
But if you start a thread about a battle and team tactics, I promise I'll post in it ------

I'm sorry to see you guys pulling out but I think the decision was made with some integrity on your part. After 2 matches with MC were flawed, and all the flaming, I think pulling out now will get you far away from the tinfoil hattery and that is a good thing.

The funny thing in this situaion is that all the people so quick to point the finger for foul play do not realize they have 4 more fingers pointing back at themselves. The rules are set for reasons, there will allways be something needed to be added to it (its a learning process) and then again the GM's are there for a reason. It is their job to set the punishment for anything done wrong and to be fair about it. As for the whole MC issue, most people are so quick to smack about them or BoB or anybody else thats part of their side and they dont realize that yes they are allways picking a fight but you have to have somebody in game to shoot. And when you fight them you know you are allways going to get a good fight out of them which makes this game worth playing.
MC, sorry you guys were mistreated this tournament, if anyone deserved the championship title it was you guys! It seems that the eve enviroment is becoming so segregated anymore to where you're either MC/Bob friendly or youre not and set blue to everyone else. Enough is enough leave it be.

MC loose a lot of respect from me for that. They may think they're making a statement about the state of peoples attitudes, but all they're really doing is hurting the people who take part in, work on, or watch and enjoy this tournament. The people who most certainly are not hurt are the forum trolls.
To put it another way- all this is is feeding the trolls on an epic scale.
I disagree. My reading of it was that they (MC) play the game for fun. They actually realise it's just a game.
All the controversy surrounding their matches, caused through no fault of their own, just meant that participating in the tournament was no longer enjoyable, so they quit.
Seems fair enough to me.

As you said you hate the smack, you are tired of the cheaters bull****, and all that crap. I am sure I am one of the ones you are tired of and should be. HOWEVER
Dont you ******* dare turn into cowards on us and leave the tournament. You want to shut all the people up... FIGHT THEM, BEAT THEM. Show them how superior you are and that you do not cheat to win. The MC dont need to prove how good they are, but pulling out is a serious mistake. This is not a troll at the MC it is hopefully something that will light a fire under thier asses to get them to fight. Everyone wants to see you guys fight and I want to beat you further in the tourny 8). Please reconsider and come back. I may have a SERIOUS problem with the commentators and NOVA / Sharky, but I have no problem with any of the contestants and respect you all. Please do not pull out. The prizes are ****, and the only thing worthwhile in this tourny is getting chances to fight teams like the MC. I EXPECT TO SEE YOU GUYS NEXT FRIDAY!

I never thought I'd say this but... I'm really disappointed with you guys for that decision.
No-one is getting cut any slack here. Not by commentators, not by the viewers. I've even had friends telling me all weekend in private that I'm utter ****. Verbatim. So what? There are a lot of explanations and excuses I could've given for Enelaise's poor performance so far. It doesn't matter. Here is the official word on why Enelaise's performance has been so bad: I messed up bad.
True sportsmanship, Seleene, is not patting the guy you just crushed on the back and tell him he did his best. True sportsmanship is facing adversity as best you can and playing on, no fuss, no comments. Even with crooked refs, juiced up adversaries, screaming fans, unfair commentators.
So you guys screweud up a little, and people blew it out of proportions. You're not alone in having made mistakes in this tourney, especially when it comes to the teams and the /tr trash. Seriously think about this Seleene. Compete in your last rounds. Even if it's just t1-fit battleships with smartbombs or whatever.
Dropping out is weak. It means you couldn't take the heat, your skin wasn't thick enough. It means that all the talk got to you in the end. I see you as a friend, mate, and I don't want to see you making this decision. ----

Frankly, I think if I were a team captain and I saw the completely arbitrary and uneven rulings going on, and that my team happened to be party to some of the unfairness (to the good, no less) without any GM even bothering to review it, I just might have quit too.

Seleene I'm not sure why MC needed to withdraw rather than acknowledge that the penalties were inconsistently applied, through no fault of MC's. Because that's what it looks like to me, but I guess not to you. To you guys it must look like people can't help but smear MC's reputation even though you've done nothing wrong, so you're fed up and tired of it and going home. People who think there is inconsistency will be cast in a bad light and lumped in with conspiracy theorists, which we've seen in this thread so far. There's a huge difference between the two positions and for whatever reason the more reasonable side is being stifled and you quitting for your stated reasons will only exacerbate that. Take the more reasonable side; you'll still gain e-rep, you won't get trolled. That's why I'm having trouble understanding why you just up and quit.

People really need to start to appreciate the work put into this. Eve is harsh so of course the tournament shouldn't be a damn pink unicorn carousel. If people do not obey the very simple rules of this tournament they should be punished, the rules state that the GMs can punish any infractions depending on how severe they view them.
I'm sad to see MC back out because they have had a solid performance in this tourney, but I understand Seleene and crew to attempting to roll the stone back in front of the trolls' cave.
I personally feel the TV crew have been doing a very good job given their resources and hope asshattery like this doesn't deter them from doing this again. Loads of kudos to the GMs and the CCP crew for actually attempting to do stuff like this for their players.
Be thankful that you're playing a game ran by people who actually care about it. Troll when TQ crashes but leave the fudgestorm at home when you're being done a favor.
[/rant]
Says it all from both. I have enjoyed watching the matches on EvE-TV and hope this kind of crap will not deter them from future broadcasts to the huge majority of EvE players that DO appreciate the effort.

I am sorry to see MC pull out of the tournament but I can understand their reasoning for doing so.
It is just a shame that there are so many small minded people taking snide, smarmy and, quite frankly, chicken**** potshots at anything they can. Yes, the commentators are making mistakes. Are they TV professionals? No, they are not. They are people who derive enjpoyment out of the game and have volunteered their time to provide the rest of the EVE community with a service.

I think MC withdrew from the tourney because they are the classiest organization in the game.
This is a very sad day for EVE.
If I had my way Nebula Rasa would withdraw as well. Our pilots feel we must carry on, so I will stand beside my team.
Hopefully all of us can learn something from this, I know I surely have.
It was an honor to share the same playing field with you, and I can only hope we get another chance in the future.

I can completely see why MC is pulling out. While I would hope they wouldn't, as I was rooting for them, what can any of us say?
Minutes after their first win, the whinewagon already was going overboard with conspiracy theories. After the next match where their opponents were disqualified, IRC went full blown batsh-t for a while. If MC proceeded higher in the tournament, or even won, then what then? It'd be tainted by completely unsupported allegations.
And yes, the GMing this time was pretty damn spotty at several signifigant times. But yet again, what is worse? Idiotic GMs, or waves of persecution complex tinfoilers making the matter so much worse than errors on the part of some GMs?
The Alliance Tournaments are the best event in any MMO Community. It hurts to see it's (most recently improved) awesomeness spoiled by the CAOD Crybabies. ~~~

Seriously though, its a shame to see you pull out, even more so for the stated reasons. I'm not sure if its decisions which have been made or the forum rabble which has had the greatest impact on your decision, but I fear the latter. And I agree its got kinda out of control, the shame is that it is a vocal minority which has made this happen. There have been some fights where there have been some great threads afterwards full of friendly competition.
Personally think the GM's/Devs/EvETV have done a great job, its given me hours of entertainment.
All the best, and I hope you reconsider, your fights would have been entertaining.
