I admire the multi-layered craftiness of this move; making a thread based on a pointless, attention-seeking dummy spit on the eve-tv forums is the best way to protest the petty arguments in CAOD spilling into the eve-tv forums.

Edited by: Draekas Darkwater on 04/09/2007 05:32:39 As a representative of empire huggers everywhere, all I can say is please reconsider. Most of us will never get to see really quality PvPers in action, except in these tournaments. The best PvP we will probably experience is when we get ganked when trying to take a shortcut to check market prices in a different region. =/
Forget what the vocal minority is saying and doing. Instead, please compete in the tournament for silent majority that are loving the whole experience.
Please?
PS. As proof positive that people are loving this whole thing, at least half my corp went on the test server on Sunday to shoot each other. For most of them, it was thier very first PvP experience ever, and we had a hell of a time, and likely will again soon.

this is pretty unfortunate. The gm's decisions and actions have caused a cascade failure in the tournament that hasn't seemed to stop including this now. It really sucks that these things have happened. Sorry to see that our team will not have any chance of facing you now. Gm's please consider your decisions more carefully. They have caused this cascade of things going on. Hopefully this will not continue.
Anyway....
The EVE TV Staff have put on one hell of a show. I hope they read the following it may give some insight. Every show I have ever been a part of from radio to TV has gotten the same emails and letters from what we called "haters". With the advent of forums it became instant feedback and the rate increased.
If you do a show you are guaranteed to get all kinds of crap thrown at you. Its just part of having people know who you are. The internet speeds that up a bit and the more vocal are usually the internet junkies that really never have anything good to say.
For example when i was doing the show EVE-NN i got all kinds of way negative emails and people that for some reason or another developed personal grudges against me. I even had a part of CCP staff turn on me because of who i was in contact with and for the content of some of the shows. When that happened it was the nail in the coffin for the show. I could deal with the rest of it but from the staff of the game company itself was out of line.
I hope the best for all of the staff of EVE TV. Don't listen to these jerk offs and take what people say with a grain of salt. What really matters is that you are having fun. The rest is just garbage. -

Looks like the forum got a bit of a wake-up call, and if I know my former alliance like I think I do, that was exactly the point being made. Remember the nano setups from the last tourney? That was the MC saying "These rules really need work. Need evidence? Watch this!" This tourney, the rules are loads better.
You all have no idea how close MC was to pulling out of the last tournament due to all the BS going on with rules, rulings, etc. For example, did you know that in the last tourney, MC had a ship heal0'ed for being outside the boundaries, and, while he was exploding, an enemy Curse sailed by, but was never nuked? They didn't blame the player then. It was more about the principle of uneven distribution of rules enforcement. Whether or not that is the reason here, I can't say, as I wasn't part of the decision (given my new corp ticker).
Really, in the end, I don't blame Sel for the decision he made. Read what he said carefully. It's not just the smacking of MC that bothers him. This community has, by and large, turned into just another gathering of Counterstrike Kiddies suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. Whether it's a small minority or not, the fact is that most of you condone it, if not actively support it. Respect to MC, though you owe me 50 mill, Sel. To my former corp and alliance mates, you are the greatest alliance in the game, and no amount of internet spaceship forum trolls will change it. Keep having fun. It's what you're good at.

I don't believe this! I'm stunned. MC withdrawn?
This is the 3rd tournament i've watched and one of the main draws for me has been to see what imaginative setup the MC will tun up with this time. For me this is a major disapointment. I have nothing invested in the tournament and neither have most of the people talking crap on these forums, which puts the event firmly in to entertainment territory. Why everyone can't just enjoy the show is beyond me.
The trouble with forums is that they are filled with people talking and in my experience most people only rarely have anything worth saying. (You are welcome to disregard this post as it's just me having a rant).

The bitterness in the eve community this past year is discusting, people have only themselves to blame.
Its a shame to see MC drop from the tournament, im thankful i havent experienced any drama first hand in my own matches, as i imagine my reaction would be the same if i had.

There is no need in quitting. With Seleenes hordes of fanboys it would have been totally sufficient to post a statement as a "wake-up call", and people would start to crucify anybody that dares to post something negative. A pointless and a very unsportmanslike [sp?] decision.

Edited by: Phoenixgurl on 04/09/2007 08:54:51 It's really sad to see you withdraw from the tournament, I was hoping to see how much your setups would differ from our team ... and which would see the finals (if any of our teams do). Anyhow, it's really sad to see so many people flaming other players for some silly reason. Eve's community is getting worse, looks like the Eve War 1 is taking a toll even within the 4th alliance tournament.
I hope you flamer guys are proud of what you've done, otherwise you've just lowered the competition level to something you want to accept. Adapt or die (goons are good at that at least! ... adapting) --------------------------

Well done MC.. what ever your true reasons for withdrawing , by leaving the tournament you have shown that even you acknowledge the handling of mistakes and errors by GM's has been inconsistent.
Until the penalties are given out in a fair manner this tourney is flawed.
Both Hedonistic and Goons have been far too harshly penalised while MC and others have made errors against the rules and these have been overlooked.
no-one disputes a lot of time and hard work has/is ongoing for this tournament, and all credit for those doing that work, but that does not excuse the inconsistent rulingss

Goons and Hedonistic did something which the punishment is already written for and fair for (bringing more ships and shooting before the match begins). MC brought a ship during the fight, and the rule #7 was applied (the ship got blown up by GMs). IT IS FAIR. Read the fraking rules ffs --------------------------

There is of course another possibility ... MC bet against themselves! Lots of money on their opposition making the semi finals so now they have withdrawn to make sure it happens! So maybe now they are going to be rich? |

Its a shame to see MC leave the tournament but to be honest I can completely understand why they pulled out. For me though its a much bigger reason. I left eve due to the majority of what is now termed as general behavior that I have watched change over four years. I think in this case MC got a much larger aspect of it because they 'did' wrong. I think the eve community is generally still alot more civilized than other MMO's but those civilized people keep their mouthes shut and just play but you have to remember that forums/tv etc etc are all part of the game and if one bit is bad it all is.
Sorry to see you drop out MC, hope to see you next year. Linkeh Pooh |

Edited by: Tzo Nakkito on 04/09/2007 11:57:38 IÆve noticed quite a few of the posts made in this thread contain the words æinconsistentÆ with regards to the GMÆs rulings on certain matters during the bouts. IÆve also seen stuff written in reference to sports analogies.
I have to comment on this. The political aspect in Eve is on fire at the moment. ThatÆs fair enough its part of the game, the MC/BOB/WHOEVER have had to endure allegations thrown at them and in my opinion have done so stoically and consistently. CCP has also had to face the firing squad through out this time and has responded with its proposals of a more inclusive community based player council.
So?
This is a tournament. It is an entertainment based pew pew show, all involved from the EvE-TV crew are really just amateur broadcasters and I love the amateur ness off it all. Spiral made a comment the other night when the camera panned back to him and he wasnÆt ready æshowing our professionalismÆ honestly Spiral mate donÆt ever loose it. These are the moments for me that make the show both funny and compulsive viewing.
Back to the Sport analogies and inconsistency. Anyone like myself in real life who have competed in team based sports should understand what IÆm about to say full well. There is always controversy and inconsistency surrounding major team sports events. The difference here is that the community at large discuss the issues within themselves. The officials are protected from the angry mobs. The reason for this is that they often have to make split second decisions based on their interpretation of the rules and as such those spectators donÆt always agree.
Here on the forums many are singling out certain officials and attacking their decisions and escalating a bias in favour of or against whomever they decide. This puts pressure on the organisers to call one way or another through weight of popular opinion. ItÆs not on! If these intimidating tactics were to be displayed on the field against an official in sport youÆd be sent off! If you were a fan and invaded the arena at any time before during or after youÆd be arrested. The tournament organisers have set up a list of rules. Wither we like them or not their word is final there is no argument.
Seleene of MC makes some interesting points in her post. I think I understand why they have pulled out of the tournament. I guess sometimes it takes more balls to stand up and say. NO! IÆm not having it than it does to play the oppositions game quietly.
I am not a happy paying customer now that trolls and flamers have spoiled my entertainment.

Do refrain from labelling everyone not in silent agreement with you as a troll and flamer, honestly the majority of the posts carried valid points, if so the same ones over and over again.
The situation could've been easily defused by GM revision, clarifying their rulings on all matches that had some controversy and adjusting points in the same. This wasn't done and the MC had to endure being labelled favorized as the discussion just would not stop without scores being settled.

What this is going to mean for future tournies is that the rules thread will be 10 pages long stipulating every possible infraction and situation and what the possible punishments are.

Much easier it just make GMs use common good sense and just correct the mistakes that can be corrected before a match starts. We are here to watch tournament fights not forfeits. Its far better to everyone if a mistakenly dead ship is re-spawned than a forfeit, same with excessive numbers on fields.
Its nothing fun to wait a match and at time its a forfeit, because of a stupid reason that could have been easily countered.

You say that like it'd be a bad thing.
Writing rules for anything is always a learning process. It's almost impossible to think up every single eventuality before hand. All you can do is take what you learn from one attempt and take it forward in to the next. ------

First of all my post aint a debate.
IÆll call who ever I want a troll or flamer if they meet my criteria. You must be confusing me with someone who gives a monkeysÆ what you or anyone else thinks about those ævalid pointsÆ you mention.
When you sign up to the tournament you agree to act within the rules, end of story!
There is a thread http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=558116 here that contains these rules. It was opened 2007.07.17 10:59:00 thatÆs six weeks participants have had for any clarification on points.
In American football and increasingly in rugby there are some 40 odd cameras placed around the pitch for clarification on certain crucial decisions are you asking for the same sort of coverage for an internet spaceship pew pew competition?
Get a GRIP!
The GMÆs donÆt need to clarify nada the decisions were made so button it and get on with the game. So what they made a few mistakes theyÆre human itÆs in our nature besides theyÆll even themselves out in the end. All the posts of ævalid pointsÆ you mention are bollox tbfh.
Since weÆre not gonna see this happening cause itÆs a load of bollox. What people should do is. DonÆt argue with the referee, shut it! deal with it! and get on with the game ffs!
