yeah I was just about to open a thread about that, I get the bubble planck stabilizer screen far to often these days.
do the forums go offline when the server goes boom?
I've been getting a fair few timeouts recently. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

Oh it was simply just a little joke to lighten the mood, like said, no offense or anything "complainy" about it

Certain elements of the forum system depend on the database being available. So if the DB totally tanks (there are levels of failure that might result in the servers "crashing" but the DB servers remaining accessible to the forums), then the forums go with it. THey're probably rolling a bunch of hardware around and doing their thing, which is going to have an impact on the forum system.

CCP, What about a free day of gametime for every server crash, as compensation ?
Think we should already get a 30 day GTC put on our accounts seeing the numerous crashes since beginning of this year.....

And how will that improve this situation? The problem is a faulty controller card on a RAMSAN disk not OS related.

As far as i've read they are working with M$ to fix it, that would state a software/driver/irq error.

Originally by: Lord Saradomin this may be abit too much common sense, but wouldn't the fact 25k of people are trying to access the same forums to find out the problem this time have an effect?
Not since I've experienced problems reaching EVE-O for the past days, and I highly doubt that 25k users have been trying to access the forums 24/7 for the past days...

Whine whine whine.
Server patch day. CCP takes the kindness out of their hearts to warn us all "SET LONG SKILL". This isn't just decoration; it means that in their experience (like all development of technology), bugs will occur.
SET LONG SKILL, in layman's terms:
a) Your new ship will get blown up. b) Your client will disconnect at least once. c) Your jump will take longer than normal to process. d) Your buddies will all go rabble on the forums and whine to each other
and last but certainly not least
e) The appropriate technical teams are working their hides off to give your whining booty something to shut up about.
Me? I went for lunch in the park with a co-worker. Got a quickie out of the deal (hey, she's hot!) and went home. By the time I got back, supper was ready (hooray for pizza pops.)
And oh look, I just found my transformers movie DVD for the fiftyumpteenth time. Score!

I would imagine they are on the same server and so the forum goes down when they reset the server

First off. Do you even play eve? You may not think its annoying to play a online game wich keeps going offline, but most of the 20 k people online right now thinks so. And its not a mather of 60 pence a day thing, its a mather of a entire day wasted running the same mission over, and over and over again to raise standings with a faction.

I am sure, because your team is a dedicated one . If you are really tired, virtualize your storage, make your shared disk resources really redundant (by using synchronously replicated boxes) and present them to the crappy WIN/SQL cluster (no offence, but this is the reality) as SINGLE virtual volume. Then GET RID of the generic Windows MPIO drivers (They really sucks!). This way you will have NO single point of failure, extreme scalability and NO problems with the quorum disks / shared resource when one of your boxes / HBAs / SAN switches / patch cords / whatever / goes to hell. Ah, and by the way, don't use same model / vendor storage boxes for the synchronously replicated storage, because you could run into a situation with hitting the same firmware bug twice. Just take a breath and think "Would it be possible to get advice from a customer of ours?"...
P.S. M$ SQL Server / Win 2K3 make my life miserable quite often in RL, but unfortunately not with games, but with banks, airports etc. Sometimes it is scary...
