Ok so it is annoying but there is no need to whine about it. I am sure that CCP are trying their best to rectify the problem so be patient. It is in their interests after all for the game to run smoothly, so they are probably as upset as you when things go wrong.

With the situation being as it is, maybe CCP should consider a Roll-Back of the server?

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Tranquility is now up and open for business, we have been logging a lot more than we would usually and the logs are being investigated. Hopefully this means we'll get a solution to these issues.
Is there any chance you can tell us if you've at least found some indication of the cause of the problem in the logs? |

So it's not the controller card, that was thought to be the cause of yesterday's problems?

We've had theories of course, but the latest logs should be much more detailed than before, due to us logging more, and hopefully we will see a reason in there.

Edited by: Eventy One on 12/09/2007 18:26:04 Umm. Wrangler you shut down our thread. It wasn't 'actually' about the server being down. It was actually about M$SQL vs MySQL.
I was using the sheer number of 'server down' threads to initiate discussion on Databases performance (It was suppose to be tongue-in-cheek).
Anyway we can get that thread opened again?

Reimbursement of in game items lost during these problems is handled by our GMs, you will have to petition to see if you can get it reimbursed or not, that is not something I can promise or deny.
As for reimbursement of game time that would be up to the executives at CCP, I imagine it will be discussed but I can't really answer what the decision will be.

If the server goes belly up again, I think CCP should post the log files and give the resident geeks/nerds/tech (whatever you want to call them or call yourselves) a shot at decoding it and finding the problem. No chance of it happening of course but it would give everyone a good idea of how nasty looking they are to begin with when things are going smoothly!

Instead of a real money reimbursement of game time, I propose to you a reimbursement to the effect of, A Deposit of 250m isk to all characters. Or a Skill raised to level 5 of the Characters choice. With in doing so this will put people at ease, and well tide them for the time being.

Strangely enough, there is no "Reimburse my game time" option via petitions.

Originally by: Na'omi Chin'Hwa Guys, be patient. running servers is not exactly an easy thing to do especially when you have quite a few. In the IT world sometimes things happen that is not evident what the problem may be and can take quite a while to fix. I won't say i'm an expert with servers but i do have quite a bit of experience in a large networking environment and voip technology and certain issues no matter the experience level you have is just gonna make you pull your hair out. Try tracking down a network issue with over 250 different sites spreadout through one of largest counties in the states with over 10,000 cisco switches and near 5000 wireless devices. You'd be surprised how long in hind sight a simple issue takes to fix sometimes.
I know that.... BUT: this isn't just an isolated incident. For the last three days now the cluster has being going up and down like, well, lets leave it unsaid. High availability systems is not a new requirement - teleco equipment usually has 5 9's availablity... ie 99.999% uptime which equates to about 5 mins of unplanned outages per YEAR.
Now I do not expect CCP to maintain that level of uptime, however - assuming about 30mins per outage, we've had about 220 mins of unplanned outages in the last three days.
I think there would be less angst if CCP gave updates on how the search for the problem is going and when we can expect normal service to be restored.
well again unplanned outages are just a part of IT as the saying goes SH*T happens. The more advanced technology gets, the more issues are gonna show itself and the longer it will take to fix a hidden issue due to the complexity of it. As far as i'm concerned it's job security :P

No way this should happen. This is totally wrong as a way for us to be reimbursed (if we do).

Originally by: CCP Wrangler We experienced a lot of application locks, unfortunately it became too much for us to keep fixing and the database failed over. We will now restart the server and we will start digging through logs to check what went wrong.

Might be just me ... but ever since you guyz started logging more and more .. the server started crashing more and more often ....
Ever thought about checking the log service for starting the crashes?

I don't normally dont post on the forums that often but im getting tired of the OMG CCP you owe me money post (which usally comes out to pennies anyways).
Where do you think your money goes. Well lets see isp bills.. upgrade YARRware.. misc other stuff (alot to list.. bussiness norm stuff).. but most importantly staff. The staff im reffering to is the tech guys that service and monitor the servers ( and 10 interns locked in the server room to feed the hamsters :P ).. these guys are there to make sure the server stay happy (hamsters) and when things go south they STAY there till its fixed. Because they have the customers and ccp breathing down there necks to get it back up. So give them a break and go knit something or find a cure for cancer :p just stop whinning.. your in good hands.
Also just want to say that suggesting that everyone gets 250mil isk is stupid... be alot of day old noobs happy (minds make a few 100 alts in-case huh). Also suggesting an auto-train for a lvl 5 skill for a few hrs of downtime is stupid. Now if the server was down for like 2-3 weeks then i would suggest this during that time but not for a few hrs LMAO.
