It is with great sadness that I must relate that Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time series, has died of cardiac amyloidosis aged 58.
Slashdot Article
Dragonmount blog (slashdotted at posting)
Our prayers go out to Jordan's family and friends in this time of grief.
For fans awaiting the 12th and final WoT book, it is anticipated that the work can be completed based on Jordan's copious notes, although no timeframe is indicated yet. ----------

Seriously though, Death, you seem to have some, well a lot, of hostility towards religion (from several posts you've made in the past and the link in your sig) and you kinda need to realize this forum isn't exactly the place for it. If all you're going to do is flame someone for mentioning prayer in their post then you need to get some help.

If someone encourages prayers, then I have the right to express my thoughts about it. As far as my question goes, I still would like to hear him answer.

As you wish, and henceforth let us keep this thread clear of flaming.
I offer prayers for the family and friends of the deceased in the hope and faith that the Lord will support them in their grief. And now I've gone and mentioned religion and the mods will stomp me. ----------

Why would a megalomanian madman that kills humans by the millions want to support a single human being? Seams a bit of a contradiction to first flood the world killing 99% of all humans and then thousands of years later give confort to a person here and a person there.

I'll answer the questions then, you don't have to show respect but you could at least refrain from making inflammatory remarks and your second question is obviously just trying to provoke him into making some angry post for your amusement

Show some ******* respect you little ****.
I'm a atheist and I think religion in general is a bit naff, but this is a thread about a person respected and loved by a great many people, and a brilliant ******* writer, and he just died. This isn't the ******* place to post your drivel, do it elsewhere. Do you mock people who say "Oh my god" when horrible **** happens to them?

With all due respect you got it wrong.
I'm genually interested in how anyone can belive in a set of rules dating back to the bronze age. And I have yet to hear a logical argument to why one should turn to prayers.

No. The reason atheists have a bad reputation is because people of faith call them evil and what not. the other reason why atheists have bad rep is because of people like you who for some reason thinks religion is off limits for critisism.
As I already mentioned, if a person starts talking about prayers then I have the right to question it.

No.
I debate religion. I criticize it. I'll debate religion endlessly. But I don't do it in a thread where people are paying respect to a beloved, respected, and brilliant person who just died before his time. And you're doing it because someone asked people to keep his family in they're prayers. It's a common gesture that's generally considered civil.
Seriously. Take it elsewhere. You're being disrespectful of a amazing person

Yes.
The same group of people that mutilates baby boys when they are born. The same someone that says AIDS in Africa is bad but condoms are worse, the same people that until recently said that babies that died before being baptized would end up in limbo.
The list goes on and on and if you truly were a atheist you would pick up the gauntlet against the dangers and hypocrisy of religion wherever you found it.

Please can everyone stop sniping at eachother and let the mods do some heavy pruning, if the thread can even be saved from locking at this point. ----------
