Edited by: Ventosus on 23/09/2007 19:29:56 Confirmed
Today @1800 we started to form up a gang to kill a mothership in Empire.
Our gang of apx 20 pilots (half bs, half capital + supercaps) went in position.
Enemy NyX sat at pos, and we watched him for 30 mins. When the pilot (The End) went to the gate, we jumped in 6 bs and one neutral bs which sat in station. when bs gang arrived, we cynoed in our cap fleet.
Target was bumped and killed in a few minutes. (apx 3 mins i think i think)
Loot and fraps will be released tomorrow.
BOOM

Edited by: Perfecht on 23/09/2007 19:44:08 Wow. A little backstory on this specific Nyx.
It didn't even belong to The End.
It was Mr. Xtreme's, leader of UXM, one of the former leaders of Terror in The System.
If none of you remember, this was the same Nyx Mr. X used to gate camp in Aunenen with for a while (because he was too afraid to take it to 0.0).
The greatest thing about this specific mothership is that neither Mr. X, nor The End (Ender Hawkins) deserved it to begin with. They con'd it out of Lord 2evil (another former Terror in The System leadership) who has been trying to get it back/see it destroyed since that happened.
This just proves that neither of those "geniuses", Ender or Mr. X deserved the ship to begin with and now they have nothing but bad reputations left..Especially since Ender (The End) was just kicked out of Tri.
The End. lol

BOOM
Edit: A hell of a long time planning was put into this. All corp went into to this operation. Im happy it went well.

i need to say good job! using the mom in lowsec cause it is so invincible is an epic fail itself and needs to be punished.
thinking of moms as an alliance or corp investment being only used to smartbomb certain gates 23/7 makes me sad.
good that you found one stupid guy who didnt use his cyno alt to get back to the safe haven ;)
i am not against moms in lowsec in generall, but the solopwn thing some guys do with them is just not right. so it is a difference for me if you just sit solo with a mom and kill some ships or if you help your corpmates doing transports protecting them etc.
anyways good kill!
(this is my personal opinion and it has nothing to do with involved corps - i just hate "invinvible" ships)

As stated in this thread before he was killed at a gate and he was very much at his computer.
The reason it died looks to be the lack of emergency cyno. -

Well, if I was flying a 20b+ ship I'd be damn paranoid. Especially if local suddenly rises by 5+ on my gate. They might be able to get him bellow 70% instantly, however with a good lowsec fit he'd use injectors and less tank stuff and more cap stuff so he'd probably get past 70% and jump (neut cycle time = 24 seconds, plenty of time). Also I'd have a few friends nearby in full cap transfer guardian setups as backup.
Not saying it's impossible, but with a pilot that knows what he's doing and is fit properly for lowsec camping.. it's extremely difficult.

For slightly related anecdote: I did lend 6B to Ender Hawks for that Nyx (before the things evolved into a drama).
Regardless of the loss, Ender did pay the loan back, months ahead of the schedule.
And in the end, it's not how we fly our ships that will be remembered, but rather how we act as players.

Serious though wtf was the pilot doing? Was he not watching local? Did he not have cyno geny alts ready (I keep 2 logged on and in gang at all times). Shame on you noob.
Anyway at least it has now proven what I have said all along, MS's CAN be taken down in low sec. So you jelous lil bears can take your cries for the nerfbat and shove em. Grow a pair, get some skills and follow x13's example.

Would you jump out if local 'spiked' by 6 to 8 people?
Then again, you might...
With that said, great job x13 you succeeded in being the first with 2 things, your the first solo corp to ever kill a mothership (others where always multiple alliances) and you where the first to kill a MS in low-sec. ---

I posted this elsewhere but I'll repost it here -- Is it just me or are people putting too much stock in pilot error and not giving x13 enough props for the kill? It could be that not having even flown a capital ship I have no clue whatsoever about what I'm talking about >_>, but if he was being bumped/locked down by caps, was one volly neut nuked to below cyno jump ability.... Apart from having read tea leaves predicting exactly that would happen today and having a perma running cyno alt and cyno'in out the few seconds he would have had after coming out of warp at the gate before the neuts got him...how could he have escaped the gank?
Sounds more like x13 did their homework than pilot error, just sayin :)
Either way awesome kill. This is why I love eve, theres always either a bigger fish or a **** tonne of smaller bloodthirsty ones waiting. ---
So yeah, he can't initiate the cyno mid warp and if the neut BS's were waiting on the gate...isn't that more like 95% awesome planning/intel by x13 and 5% crappy piloting skills by the MS pilot?

If you were flying a 20b+ ship, chances are that we'd already have laughed over your loss in here, I suppose. If you would really fit cap boosters, that is (how many would you fit to keep up with 6+ neutralizing BS, eh?).
Anyway, the way x13 planned and executed this, it would have taken a lot of luck or a special fitting just for this occasion to escape. Everyone who is flaming the MS pilot is obviously too stupid to understand this.
isn't it funny how some people advocate both GTC<=>ISK trades and EVE being superior due to its cruelty and costly losses, when they use the former to circumvent the latter?

I'll ask you this directly as you seem to have a view counter to mine but probably know a lot more than I do about the subject. If they jumped in the neut BS's while he was in warp, zapped him down to below cyno capable cap as soon as he was targetable (how long can it possibly take to taget something that big? o.O) and then bumped him with high mass ships continuously. How could he have escaped? Even if he was perma running a cyno alt he's only got the time in warp to make the call to try and spam the cyno out button after he reaches the gate surely? I'm assuming he jumped right on top of the gate and the BS's would have all de-cloaked within large neut range.

Edited by: Swamp Ziro on 24/09/2007 11:10:06 I still don't understand how x13 did it tbqh ...
I mean, even without a cyno emergency alt, how did they manage to keep a MS bumped for 5 minutes straight, while still doing high enough dps on it to break it?
Can turret dreads even hit a mothership that's being bumped constantly due to transversal? Also, are nanoBS enough to bump it?
To be honest, screw the cyno emergency alt. Keeping that thing bumped is the real win here, and I can't really imagine how they did it.
EDIT: Under fire from a ****ton of fighters too.

He can cyno before they manage to even lock. Yes its THAT fast. And with module lag lock+activate module is slower than only cynoing out.
But if he didnt cyno out, well... he died :) Ofc he could have tried using alt/friend to double web him so he can insta-warp (same as freighters), but this is a bit bump-direction dependant.

Typical goon responce.
If it cannot be done with a uber blob or a nerf or if it takes planning and precision timing they call it luck.
Crawl back under your rock or behind your noob ships or at least try to show some respect to ppl who play the game well to get good kills instead of breaking the game by spamming noob ships and shuttles.

That's cute, you're acting like this was possible without The End having a terrible case of water on the brain
Part of it was due to End not preparing a cyno in time.
Another part of it tho was because they kept him bumped, something Outbreak failed to do vs Hera if you remember.
So no, it was mostly skill.

It was proly due to your lack of ships that made him stick around and fight instead of running. So if using a small ammount of ships as bait to get his cap down and then call in bumpers and high dmg boys then it was a very good plan.

Anyway at least it has now proven what I have said all along, MS's CAN be taken down in low sec. So you jelous lil bears can take your cries for the nerfbat and shove em. Grow a pair, get some skills and follow x13's example.
GG guys.
Isn't that a bit contradictory? You express disbelief that a MS can be taken down, then make a song and dance about it being possible. I can't wait for the battle report. Mad props to X13 for their achievement. I still think that there should be more options to defeating a mom than relying on pilot incompetence.
Love that 17% efficiency =)

Just to set the record straight I am one of Enders friends, I often would standby with a cyno alt when he'd camp low-sec. He was always "paranoid" about traps but also one of the most gungho pilots i've ever flown with, props to the man who changed low sec pirating 4evah.
After his lose I was on msn with him and from what I can gather there might have been some backstabbing from the m.corp peeps. Thats all i can say, hopefully Ender will publish his side of the story soon.

Let's be honest - I don't think we know enough about the exact circumstances of the kill (I don't at any rate) to know how much of what happened is due to perfect planning/execution and how much is a sheer indictment of The End's intellect.
The kindest theory about what happened to The End would have to be that he was dropped to < 70% as he came out of warp. This theory would be that he had very little time to save his ship by jumping and he made the wrong decision under pressure. I think this is unlikely because:
A Nyx with top cap skills has 84375 cap at 100%. To remove 30% of his cap to stop him from jumping would mean taking away about 25300 (assuming The End had no Semi Mem Cell rigs). A TII Neut neuts 600 cap/cycle, so to do this in one coordinated volley would take about 42 neuts, probably eight battleships. I see 5 BSs on the killmail although I think someone said there were more ships and the carriers could have packed neuts too (supposedly the caps jumped in later though).
This is speculative but it's my guess that The End *did* have a bit longer to decide whether to leave or not, so some hubris (or water on the brain) may have contributed to his demise.
At any rate, he is the first to lose a Mummy in losec, nobody can take THAT away from him :)
I look forward to the FRAPS and report to see if we can understand what happened.

Never underestimate ppls overconfidence ;)
And thurough planning. Execution went outright perfect (im still a bit awestruck at how well every little detail went). I wont go into details and ruin Vento's upcoming report, but this was obviously based partly on baiting The End, even if it was a bait that still required pinpoint precision from x13 with things having to be coordinated with litterally single seconds as margins. It all worked out, The End couldnt get out, and we took him down in a matter of minutes. No doubt The End wasnt the most competent MS pilot, but tbqh i think even more skilled MS pilots could have sucommed to this tactic, especially when ppl have the notion that their MS is invincible ;)

You don't have to 'keep up' with them. Their cycle time is 24 seconds. The cap boosters would give you enough of a boost to get past 70% and jump (with the number of BS x13 had). A lowsec mom fitting should be different than a 0.0 mom fitting where you have multiple moms/carriers as support.
I'm not trying to downplay what x13 did here. They planned it and executed it extremely well. But with a more paranoid/experienced pilot it would've looked different.
And if I was flying one I wouldn't use it for lowsec camping.

7 battleships with 8 neutralizers each would put him to 50% cap assuming he was tanking the sentries with 1 repper and not give him the chance to recharge or boost that back up to 71% before the next cycle.

This thread is epic win.
It has epic skills on display in killing the 'unkillable' ship.
It has everyone from every part of eve giving respect.
It has goons smacking each other.
I could die now and know eve doesn't get any better after this point.
The only thing I kinda laughed at was the fact x13 used 2 moms to kill another mom in low sec.
Other than that, good show. Hope you get Mr. Xtreme too. Mostly because of that name and the fact he once told a bunch of us while we were in Terror that he could get any ship out of any gate camp no matter how many people were there. I wanted to find him and shoot him just for saying it, the smug asshat.

speculation: a smart bombing bs or ms has to tank sentry gun fire, if timing is right a bomber can still kill ships with a bomb while being off grid or in another system, if they could deploy bombs in low sec they could prevent being shot at by said sentry guns

You guys are now legends in your own right. With the number of people whining about indestructable capital ships in lowsec, you brushed that aside and said 'indestructable? Lets see...'... It's a proud day for everyone in EVE if you ask me! I only hope you can take down the other mothership cowards just as well...
Having said that, if I ever hear you lot use your motherships in the same way, you're no better than the rest of them.
Also, I'll say hello to a few of you that I was fighting in Placid less than a month ago! You've come a long way in a short space of time! Keep it up!

I'm too lazy/tired to do the math myself, and I can't be arsed to go and find it, but IIRC you could basically pimp the cap recharge so much that neuting the cap took an unrealistic amount of NOS/neuts- mind you, now NOS don't even drain the cap, and you can't really permarun too many neuts without killing your own cap too.
Anyways, lol.

When people were complaining how they couldn't kill Hera in low-sec, we always believed there was a way to kill them in low-sec, it was just people were too busy whining about it rather than actually trying anything to kill it. It might be very difficult, but this proves not impossible and just because its very difficult shouldn't be the cue to throw your hands up in the air and go 'omg invincible ship'. All it takes is the commitment to plan and execute such an operation. Only if the MS pilot is really on the ball with properscouting and preparation (as with many other things to be honest) could he escape.
The Establishment is at your service...

It's really a matter of adding together how stupid the pilot is being and how smart the enemy gang is being to figure out how likely it is that poor bastard is going to die

No one is denying that it was a well executed plan, the point is that a mothership in lowsec doesn't need a tank, and is much more survivable with a good cap regen; as your gang just proved. Once you have a mothership, it is safe to assume that you can afford something better than t2 cap rechargers/t2 cap relays, probably the only t2 fittings on a serious lowsec mothership are the capacitor control circuit II
Why would you need a tank in low sec? You can permatank the sentries even with a battlecruiser... zakma is right, the mothership was poorly fitted, and everybody should thank x13 for weeding the weak and the stupid out of the game.

Want to be realistic? If I went through the trouble to get a supercap to use it exclusively for lowsec camping, you could bet your ass off that I'd have a cap fitting on it. It's insane how much regen you can get with a proper setup.
I didn't say you were lucky punks, I congratulated you multiple times on your kill and your well executed plan.. yet you keep acting as if you would've killed any mom regardless of the fitting and the pilot with what you had. I'm with x13 on this tbh, there's no way he could have gotten out of there with a cyno even with 'proper' fittings unless with proper you mean all cap-relays (except 1 for the capital rep).
A Nyx with 2 cap-relays and 3-4 cap rechargers (T2) (not sure if the EFT setup had 3 or 4 rechargers) and 1x CCC T1 and 2x CCC T2 regens around 400-500 cap / sec at PEAK (which is around 30% cap).
Assuming x13 took 7 BS with 8 heavy neuts each, it would mean that the first cycle would bring a full-cap nyx from 85k -> 52k (give or take), the Nyx however needs 62k (give or take) to jump, which means it would need to regen 10k cap within 24 seconds.
Lets go 1 step further, 10.000 / 24 = 416 cap / sec at 61% cap?
Very unlikely, not with a 2-cap relay 3-4 cap recharger (t2) setup. He'd need way above 600-700cap/sec (at peak) to get the needed 416 cap/sec at 61%.
As we have no information on how many battleships where there and what their fittings where, I'm assuming at least 8-10 BS and I assume (as they brought in capitals for damage) that all of those where setup with full-heavy-neuts, which would knock off even more then 33k which means his cap / sec need would increase dramatically !
Just to show you that example, adding 1 more 8-slot neut BS removes an additional 4800 cap , as such each BS results in an additional 200 cap / sec need!
So lets assume 10x 8-slot neuts BS, thats 4800 * 10 cap gone dropping the nyx's cap to 37k meaning he'd need to regen 25k cap within 24 seconds or 1041 cap / sec at his less then optimal cap-regen.
Good luck with a fit that regens that amount. Impossible, no, unlikely, yes. ---

that's not a cap setup. A cap setup would mean every single slot devoted to cap recharge. Even with a vanilla t2 fitting for the poor (lol) Nyx pilot, you get a recharge of less than 2 minutes- just using t2 cap rec and t2 cap power relays. This means that the Nyx pilot is however a bit stupid because he's spending 30 millions to fit a ship that costs... how much? If you follow the golden fitting rule (tm) and spend the same on modules as the cost of your ship, you can afford some nice cap rechargers/cap relays and further push it down to the level where the 24 seconds neut cycle is longer than your cap recharge.
Why would you do that? Because a Nyx has enough hitpoints to go make a coffee, log your cyno alt, and jump away. The only way to kill a nyx that way would be to have enough neuts alternating and pushing the cap down as it recharges. Enough neuts in this case meaning A LOT.

I think your missing the point that each BS added (past the initial 6 needed to stop it from jumping) to neutralize adds 200 cap/sec required.
I think your missing the point that between 40% -> 100% and below 25% your cap / sec is far from optimal.
You show me a setup thats required to regen 1000 cap / sec at 41% all the way up to 72%. As noted, the max cap regen that EFT shows is around 30-35% cap. Above and below that its far from optimal.
Unless you go extremely expensive, I very much doubt anyone would realistically have the cap regen needed to jump out when 10-14 neut-BS get a jump on you.
But show me a setup and you might convince me, not that it matters as x13 will most likely have ship-scanned Mr. End before attacking. ---

We're just theorycrafting here are we? I'm glad that mothership died and x13 executed a wonderful plan. IAC are our brosefs too, so no hard feelings and whatsoever. Probably uneeded but important premise before this math galore turns into a flamefest, which isn't my intention.
This said: a fully t2 cap regen dumps the cap recharge to below 2 minutes; if you want to spend a bit on it, and you really should after all because you're in the 2nd most expensive ship class of eve, you could slap some officer cap rechargers and cap relays for more cap recharge goodness.
Add to this fact that battleships are unlikely to permarun all their neuts (remember, they use cap too; and a lot of it). Remember that you can't jam or damp a mothership, so you can safely concentrate your drones on one target at once; the cyno doesn't have to be in the same system (in fact the contrary is very likely).
With all these premises, we can see that killing a cap regen mothership would've been much harder to kill; emphasis on *harder*, not impossible. From our understandings x13 knew the fittings, knew his habits, assembled an ad-hoc gang and striked perfectly. Which is by definition a good plan that worked out perfectly (insert a-team tune).
There is a reason why motherships used to be considered nearly impossible to kill, along with titans, before the supercap nerf patch.

Well I dont want to flame either but people saying the MS pilot sucked because he didnt have a 'proper fit' arent doing the math.
I can go on with maths forever (like the fact that a 2 minute regen on 85k cap is 'only' 1700 cap / sec at peak, which probably is not enough to regen the cap lost from 12-14 neut BS). I would like to end this by saying that (sadly enough) officer cap rechargers and cap relays are one of the most expensive modules (except for officer invul's) in the game atm.
Last time I saw a 36% cap recharger get sold it went for above 8b, even 24% versions are getting sold at 800m. Not that good on the relay prices but their also very expensive. Which is what I'm trying to point out that a setup like that quickly goes towards the unrealistic point.
I doubt any super cap except some of the early titans had such an expensive cap-regen setup. I can only dream of having 2x chelm rechargers on mine. ---

Not saying it's realistic or easy or cheap, but doable? Yeah. 2 minutes (more like 90) seconds with t2 vanilla gets extremely down with officer or faction stuff, even if you don't fit a full rack of Draclira's. What's the point of getting in a mothership if you can't afford a bit of pricey modules?
On the other hand what's the point of tanking a mothership in low sec? What can possibly threaten it?

Still, EVERY Supercapital dies because the pilot is doing something stupid. Whether it's logging your mothership into a losing fight at a gate or cloaking your titan 100k off a gate. It's really a matter of adding together how stupid the pilot is being and how smart the enemy gang is being to figure out how likely it is that poor bastard is going to die
Maybe. But this guy was extra stupid appearantly. This does nothing to add to the genius of X13 or anything. It just adds to the stupidity factor of the MOM pilot.

heh, I heard about this a few days ago and this whole thing has a longer story than it seems. So I woke up one day, and Someone told me a Nyx was gate camping in Hysera, that's kinda something I dont see everyday, usually MS's and Capitals just jump in and out, anyways yes it was the Union Of Xtreme Military of M.Pire, so after watching them while I was cloaked for a while, (I didn't want to sound like a colplete ass but they were cramping our style) So I mentioned this little system of Tama a few jumps away, and Since it was on a autopilot route i said they should check it out, so. Not to bore everyone with this story, but I told them to go to Tama because I kinda wanted them out D:, and well i guess in a way, after they took my advice and went to Tama, I know I wasn't involved in the fight, grats to x13 btw, but I kinda feel indirectly involved in a destruction of MS.

Not true. When Davlin Lotze lost his Wyvern, he couldn't fight back thanks to lag and desynch (Couldn't launch fighters). Now, you could consider the fact he didn't relog operator error, but the game mechanics shouldn't work like that, and the fact they are borked as such is CCP error, not a pilot's mistake. Fix the game and your inifinitives may hold true.

I find it funny he magically couldent launch fighters directly after killing Ernest's raven right before he got caught. Yes he de-sync'd, but in the end it wouldent have mattered. he was going to die regardless.

Funny or not, it was true. And 25km web kills dictors; Davlin had his baby a long long time and got out of many similar situations, but only because he could fight back. No dictor=nothing to hold you down, mothership warps away. He might have died, but chances are far far less.
