Edited by: Starfired on 30/09/2007 01:49:15 Digimon Adventure Complete Season "also has movies 5 & 6"
Digimon Adventure 02 Complete Season
Digimon Tamers Complete Season
Digimon Movie movies 1-3. Also has Revenge of Diaboromon = Movie 4.
I watched it as a kid and started getting back into it again recently. Anyone else want to give their own contenders for best anime ever?
Edit: I recently watched ALL of them since I started in June/July.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a bit over-rated, but still a classic. I find Ghost in the Shell - Stand-Alone Complex to be a better series overall though. Really though, it depends on your genre of choice.
Sci-Fi: Ghost in the Shell SAC Comedy: FLCL Romance: Lovely Complex Horror: Elfen Lied ( Oh god, so gory and yet so good ) Cyberpunk: Serial Experiments Lain Slice of Life: Haibane Renmei Action: Cowboy Bebop -----

I actually remember seeing that (or something very similar) when I was about 10, so I do believe that was made for children. If you want some kickass fights, I suggest you check out Blood+. In the first 2 minutes quite a few people die. ---------------------------

I'm not a huge anime fan but the stuff i've enjoyed:
Series
- Neon Genesis: especially the movies - .hack//sign: probably the best anime I've seen - Noir: - Serial Experiments Lain: need to watch it more then once to really get it, but quite good. - Burst Angel: way better then I thought it would be
Movies / short films: - Akira - Voices of a Distant Star - Mononoke Hime (I think that's Princess Mononoke in English, I saw it in Japanese without subtitles so probably only got about1/2 of the dialogue, still enjoyed it a lot)

All nice and dandy but where is Ghost in the Shell????
The movie was fantastic and really poses some very interesting questions. Haven't managed to see Stand Alone Complex yet.

I'm gonna have to put Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost In The Shell: SAC, and Ergo Proxy as the top contenders for best anime series ever.

I haven't seen it, most of the anime I see comes through my flatmate who is a much bigger fan of the stuff then me, too be honest I think 90% of the stuff he watches is rubbish, those listed were the exceptions that I really enjoyed. I'll ask him if he has Ghost in the Shell.

That was actualy pretty weak... definitely kid orientated, but what ever you like is cool.
as far as films go, Vampire Hunter D and Akira are classics.

That series had way too much fluff for me. Some great premises sure, but too many episodes with inconsequential crap that didn't even develop characters at the least. Great series but too often sitting at mediocre in my opinion.
Nothing is ever going to top Neon Genesis Evangelion for me. So much there when it comes to substance to bite down on, not to mention the art direction... nothing tops its use of sound with sight except FLCL. I don't know if having experienced depression (and living with it) has anything to do with it... but Evangelion strikes that nerve like no other with its portrayal of the protagonist.

Eh, didn't say it wasn't at all kid oriented. Just saying it's not afraid to be a bit more mature at times as well. In say "Pokemon" the good guys always got along, and the bad guys were always so predictable & the same. Digimon isn't afraid to have strife within the main characters themselves. Basically it's something that you don't HAVE to be a kid to enjoy, even if it does try to at least be watchable by kids.

I agree here in terms of art direction, Evangelion is amazing, thinking back on that series the part that always stands out for me is 3/4 of the way through 'The End of Evangelion' where it cuts between animation and 'real' live action video, the effect combined with the narration over the top is really memorable the way it blends in Shinji's mind with the real world is amazing, definately had a strong effect on me when I saw it.
Not sure I agree with you about the soundtrack though, thinking back I can't really think of anything truly memorable from it, one of the reasons I like Hack//sign and Noir so much is they both have amazing soundtracks

The three best anime series of all time are Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, and Last Exile. In that order. There is no debate. And NGE does not make the top 3.

Area 88 is made of all kinds of awesome. The fact that I actually have the DVDs means something.
Others that are easily my favorites: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Cowboy Bebop Lucky Star (and by extension Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu) Samurai Champloo
Classics: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Akira Ghost in the Shell (both the OAV and GITSAC) Neon Genesis Evangelion 08th MS Team (I still need to get a hold of the other Gundam series in Japanese) --- Amarr/Caldari, and proud of it.

Though I quite like the parts of NGE that I understood, I have to agree on many levels.
GITS for its amazing depth and characterization, Bebop for it style and substance, and Last Exile for its beautiful design and story telling. But I would include many others with these, including Akira, Macross (the movie), and Gunbuster (because I'm like that).
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.
