CCP, I suppose this is a bug, because of the crippling effect it would have on mission-runners and ratters.... it's a bug, right? ------------------------------------------

I love it when CCP introduces an answer to a non-existant problem, only to create the problem shortly afterwards!

I expected some kind of ratting nerf. Ratting needs no special skills or ship, and when it's far more profitable than things that do, (mining) there is a problem. You get more minerals from blowing up BS rats and melting down the loot than you do from actual mining.

More low-end minerals, true, but taht's why the new types of asteroids seem to be for: provide a lot of low-ends minerals in 0.0, and at the same time remove the need of mineral compression to move low-ends from empire.
Update: Someone from CCP has spoken in singularity: this isn't a bug, but a tentative to stop mineral compression. ------------------------------------------

Hey sweet.
Just wait till their economist expert on game design makes veldspar more profitable to mine than arkanor, on top of this. That will complete the "missions and mining in highsec is more profitable than anything in 0.0" transformation.

Edited by: Scavok on 06/10/2007 23:03:06 I'm really having a hard time trying to think of any reason to own 0.0 space besides the entertainment involved with defending and taking it. Mining is crap, ratting is now crap, moon mining is barely worth the effort. All production is going to take place in empire once this goes live, and only because of illegitimate chinese farmers and macro miners.

This is an inexplicably stupid change. CCP is hell-bent on completely destroying the economy. Whoever is making this **** up needs to take a year off from making spectacularly bad decisions and try playing the aspects of the game you're destroying. |

That's sort of faulty logic considering an Osprey can generally outmine everything up to a Covetor with mediocre skills. For mining you really just need Mining IV and theoretically Astrogeology at some level and you're off to the races. Oh, and probably Mining Upgrades I. But that's all.
edit: and it's not true. I'd get much more of the high-ends by mining than by ratting.
CCP, this is ridiculous. I can't decide whether this is some misguided attempt to "fix" mineral compression or an attempt to force ratters and mission runners to buy another account as a dedicated industrial looter.

Around 20% of the profit from ratting comes from looting, and a good deal of the minerals in 0.0 (nearly half if I recall correctly). This is a colossally stupid move as it makes a lot harder to produce in 0.0, makes it more difficult to import or export tech 1 mods to/from 0.0 (to sell, ignore compression), and decreases ratting profits substantially. It affects even more areas that the previous proposed compression nerf (the refine nerf for big modules or whatever).
Furthermore, there's no need to nerf mineral compression if the new veldspar rocks are implemented properly.

Edited by: Jakiri on 06/10/2007 23:33:15 Edited by: Jakiri on 06/10/2007 23:30:15 Oh dear lord, solve the "compression problem" by making the minerals more available through mining boosts and thus make importation unnecessary rather than just destroying 0.0 production, ratting and the ability to refit in the field.
Why does this change make Eve more fun to play? What does it add to the game?

Sooo.. let me get this straight. They will make almost all T1 mod's take up 100m3 per mod? Aside from what it may do to ratting in 0.0, this will absolutely cripple mission runners.. and my side buisness of paying people to clean their missions when they leave everything behind.
Quite a lame idea. I would hope they seriously would not institute this.

Maybe they plan to give marauders really big cargo bays, and make them the only ship you can rat decently with.
Sure, what does it matter if we exclude every other ship from ratting a profit, as long as the marauders actually get a use :P
