Patch notes + announcement = smart
Announcement - patch notes = obnoxious.

hold on is this like a separate server for MAC and Linux?
Multiplicity is our public test server for Tranquility hotfixes, patches and updates, whereas Singularity is our public test server for updates and expansions.
Currently Tranquility is running Revelations 2.2.2-7, Multiplicity is running Revelations 2.3 and Singularity is running Trinity.
Revelations 2.3 will be deployed to Tranquility on Tuesday, 6 Nov.

The EVE client runs fullscreen inside the Cider / Cedega window, but you don't have to have that window fullscreen. Look at the Cider / Cedega options to enter windowed mode.
I can not connect to Multiplicity either...

NOTE: How about CCP make the torrents? Seed for a day and it will take care of it's self... :-D PLEASE?
At least on the Mac side, the client includes a wrapper which seems to check for patches (and can apply them) before launching EvE itself. So it looks like it will be a very automatic process.
I haven't looked at how they wrapped up the Linux side of things.

The patch is going live tomorrow, and it looks like the official client for Tranquility is newer than the Linux/Mac test clients they posted in the news article. They probably want to save a couple people pain of downloading the client twice in two days. :P

You are right... and yet, wrong, my friend.
It was already pointed out that the wrapper has a built-in update checker. It was taken down, probably because they realized that inside was a patched client that (go figure) wasn't released yet. However, even if the builds are different, the updater will straighten that out for those of us who has already downloaded the client.
Otherwise, we would have to download the full client every time an update came out. And how dumb would that be?
That said. Why should one download the torrent as opposed to the client released in the morning? Why, to get a head start on things, get the 850meg client first and fast, and get the update when it is loosed.
It's up to you. ---------------------

In software 3.0 does not necessarily come after 2.9 ;) They can still have 2.10, 2.11 2.12, 2.13 and so on to 2.65536 if they wanted. They will call it 3.0 when the benefits of releasing it outweigh the fallout from the bugs that still exist. Usually a developer will say "When it's done," but what they mean is "Before it's too late, some time well before I would really call it 'Done' but at a stage that isn't too horribly bad."

Nope, the EVE client will come with a free Transgaming wrapper (basically a dumbed down Cedega). No need to buy anything extra. CCP has claimed that you will pay for and recieve the same for Windows, Mac and Linux.

F*** transgaming why is only ubuntu and suse supported
i m sorry but suse went to bed with the micro$oft devil and i m not a big fan of ubuntu (not saying its bad i just don t like the flavor)
i don t see why i need to change my os to something else to play eve since ubuntu is a debian flavor it shouldn t be to hard to get it to work on any debian based os and if something runs on suse it will run everywhere so no panic just a matter of getting the right dependencies hehe
i m not worried about getting it to run on fedora 7
oh btw BIG THNX for making a linux client that was the only reason a kept windows around on a spare hd and i can finally free up the space to use it for something productive
Please don t hijack my Sig no more like it is my fault your webserver has only a 10Mb Hdd

And for the Windows User?? Where is the patch for version 41736?? My old client 37459 doesnŠt connect anymore. There should be at least some information at the patch info WHERE AND WHEN this patch will be available.

The downtime for deployment is until 14:00 GMT. Connect after that time and your client will automatically download an update.

Edited by: Lazuran on 06/11/2007 14:28:32 The currently downloadable patch is broken.
It asks me to reboot (huh?) and the client (eve.exe) says: "Your EVE client installation may have modified, damaged or corrupt files ... timestamp "2007.11.05 11:17:32", expected "2006.04.21 12:56:54".
Edit: nvm, somehow the patch locked the client and the correct version was installed after rebooting.

OK... this took a lil hoop jumping on SuSE 10.3, so FYI,
Check you have the following packages (as per the requirements page)
# python >= 2.4 # python-gtk >= 2.6 # gtk2 >= 2.6 # wget # dbus-1-python
Put the EvE rpm in a directory and start YaST, Go to Software->Software Repositories Click ADD Select "Local Directory" & Click Next Check "Plain RPM Directory" Give it a name live "EvE Repository".. doesn't really matter what - its just to be able to Identify it Browse for the directory & select it. Click "Next" & "Finish"
Back at YaST's main screen - go to Software->Software Management when the package manager comes up - search for "eve"... it is in the list somewhere mixed up with all the "development" packages (erm, CCP - can we have another name for this pls, even an extended name.... there are a _lot_ of dev packages available on any linux distro)
Highlight it, click install, click accept...
it will complain about package dependencies - just say install eve anyway.... you should be fine (crossing fingers here, it did appear in my software list, it did run & its downloading for the next hour - heres hoping it gets past that)
CCP - your dependencies in the package are a bit duff.... sorry.

I have a feeling this is because whatever patch you are downloading is the wrong one. The latest build (today's) is 41736. The MAC (and others) client, that was loosed the other day, was 41536, while the latest public version of the client before today was 37459.
This said, the latest "patch-able" client is the 37459 build, and subsequently, the 37459to41736 patch is the latest available patch. Attempting to patch OUR latest version (the version CCP loosed the other day) with the latest patch will lead to errors like you mentioned...

But you know what? I mean, it may be a little slipshod right now, but look at all the distros they came out to officially support. I'm not even a Linux guy, but to see more support than just Ubuntu and SuSE, it fills my little heart.
Just THINK of all the MONEY they are going to make!
You know what I am waiting for now? Some one with a Linux box to do some tinkering and make us a private server software... I mean, I don't condone the act of piracy, and such, but I could see it happening... ---------------------

however, while I'm a complete distro ***** (Edit: wow - I never expected that to be censored) who can pretty much bend any of them to her will - not everyone is me... ergo the lil helper.
In this household there has not been a single windoze box for over 3 years.... not even a dual boot... just mac & linux.. and SuSE is what I have right now :P
Call back next week - it may change ;)
On the flip side... I should have said....

well - maybe until the next patch day...

I wasn't coming down on anyone/thing. I was just saying that I am happy CCP decided to spread the welcome mat for the lot of the bunch, and not just a select few (as was suggested earlier in this thread).
I used to have a few *nix machines. But being a web designer/photographer first, geek second (sometimes the other way around, but hey), the lack of Adobe (and once, Macromedia) products made me go back to the Mac and Windows world.
I would if I could, but in reality, I can't.
But do enjoy your SuSE box. And now. EVE! ---------------------

This is why I said CPP probably doesn't want people downloading the client twice in two days. :)
I hit this situation a couple times before when using the Windows client, and I expected the exact same treatment from these new ones. That said, where is the official Mac client for Tranquility? Why is it down already? :(

Multiplicity (the test server) is down. You should be pointing the Mac client at Tranquility now. If you can't connect to Tranquility, you still have the test build for the Mac, and need to download the fully supported build from the EvE Client download page.
(And thanks for getting that up ASAP, guys)
