Downloading Linux client now :)
It would be interesting to know exactly how many people download it, as a percentage of active players. Hhopefully this will attract some new players....though a lot of people in the Linux community tend to be tightarses and expect everything to be free :/

Do you seriously think they will go through all that just so ppl that have legacy as not even apple gives a dam systems can run eve at 12 fps ?
So a 2 year old system is legacy? That's pushing it. I can run Quake 4 and Prey at over 30fps, so I think I can handle EVE just fine. I've run it on a PC with a GeForce 6800. I have an X800XT and that's even faster.

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop 64bit. And the client won't launch because it says I'm missing 32bit libraries.
Should the requirements say "Ubuntu 7.x 32-bit" instead of "Ubuntu 7.x"?
Also, do I need a paid Cedega subscription, or is this included in the .deb package?

This update, Revelations 2.3, contains formal support for Mac OS X and Linux. It also includes a few fixes for all platforms. Stay tuned for the release notes.

I installed the client, and it said I needed to patch to connect to multiplicity, so I patched, and none of the buttons on the left appear besides undock, and the station services are messed up. Also, while at the login page my computer went into screensaver mode, and the game went black. Had to reboot to get it to show properly again. This was all using Ubuntu 7.10 |

Edited by: OptimusWang on 04/11/2007 12:25:30 I appreciate the effort that went into making a mac version, but why are so many key features missing or rendered awkward?
Why don't I have the option of running in windowed mode? I don't have 2 20" monitors so one can just sit black all the time. No dual-boxing makes me a sad panda
Also, why are the keyboard shortcuts all using the control key and not the command key like every other app that runs under OSX does?

Edited by: Watsamata on 04/11/2007 13:08:17 I downloaded the Mac client and when I run it I only see the Tranquility server option. If I type in Multiplicity it doesn't recognize the server name. I also tried 87.237.38.51 and no luck with that either. I also haven't seen any messages to patch. How do I connect?

hold on is this like a separate server for MAC and Linux?
Multiplicity is our public test server for Tranquility hotfixes, patches and updates, whereas Singularity is our public test server for updates and expansions.
Currently Tranquility is running Revelations 2.2.2-7, Multiplicity is running Revelations 2.3 and Singularity is running Trinity.
Revelations 2.3 will be deployed to Tranquility on Tuesday, 6 Nov.

The EVE client runs fullscreen inside the Cider / Cedega window, but you don't have to have that window fullscreen. Look at the Cider / Cedega options to enter windowed mode.

Please tell myself and all the other mac users where exactly this is, as a few of us have been looking and can't find this at all.

Alt+Enter doesn't work for me in the linux client, and I can't change to windowed mode in EVE settings window. Is there another way? I searched for a cedega configuration utility and couldn't find any.

I don't understand why a traditional sh installer wasn't used. Only one of the distributions supported are actually popular, but I'm sure it will be possible to install on other distros..

Who says you can't use the rpm or deb package on other distributions? Simply extract the content and copy it to the respective folders. (I don't believe there would be a problem to use the rpm on Fedora or Mandriva (but I don't know)). (I use Arch Linux and installed the client that way).

Trying the RPM brings up these: Missing Dependency: dbus-1-python is needed by package eve-suse Missing Dependency: python-gtk >= 2.6 is needed by package eve-suse I wouldn't even know where to start with the .deb one

You can choose to continue playing under Wine and it will work, right up until we release EVE:Trinity. We are making a number of changes to our file handling (the Asynchronous IO that has been mentioned) currently thi is NOT supported by either Wine or Cedega, but the nice folks at Transgaming are already working furiously to get this working before we release EVE:Trinity.
Going forward we will be testing each release with the Transgaming code so that it will work. Transgaming get access to early versions of the code base to keep their support in step with our game so that the Mac and Linux clients will always work.

Oh, are you guys putting in the fabled 'big ore' patch that makes all the good ore the size of giant veld roids but still has the same amount of ore inside just to screw with the carebears? cause that would be a fun little patch.
You don't think the fun they had with putting fake crokite, jaspet, and hed in the newbie tutorial mission for caldari was funny?
I made a noob and played with the new tutorials to see what they were like and almost ****ed my pants when I saw that belt I was going to make a noob a day to mine that belt till I took a close look and saw the ore names

Everything is inside ~/.cedega/ but you won't be fixing the problem by fiddling with Eve's prefs. There is a decent group of Linux boxes that it just don't work with. Wine is the only solution for the moment.

"Various fixes and enhancements have been added to our billing and petition systems, as well as to GM tools."
Does this mean that there will be a right click option on a player's name in chat channels for immediate reporting of ISK selling (including transcript capture), and GM's will have a one-click option to crush 14 day trial accounts, and a two or three step process to cancel paid accounts?

trying to install those dependencies causes even more dependencies to show up, the whole suse package management actually. why on earth suse is one of the supported distros is even a bigger clue to me, suse is by far the crappiest distro i've ever tested (and i've tested a lot of em) unpacking the .deb works though its far form being comfortable (even for a linux application)
considering the fact that cedega itself supports a whole bunch more distros than 2! this is nothing but lousy work, witch shows a big disinterest in the linux port as a whole.

Hey CCP...
Your work on enable support for more OS is awesome!!!
I wonder if there is any chance of making full support of Win x64 bit operating systems. I know alot of guys running x64 bit OS and it would be very appriciated if this comes true.

Two things.
One, for the love of EVE, can someone make a torrent for the OSX and Linux clients? I can't find any. If I still can't find any by the time I finish, I will.
Second, how are updates going to happen for these clients??
NOTE: How about CCP make the torrents? Seed for a day and it will take care of it's self... :-D PLEASE? I am not Aliastra because I am a n00b. I'm Aliastra because I don't need to stinking corp! |

On my Mac OX Client, I can't connect to Multiplicity. It says server unknown.
I have tried changing the port to 3724 but that also did not work.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts on how to fix it?
Thanks
