posted in the other thread to check if packet loss is the reason for crashes:
Quote: If you have a router with a firewall or a software firewall make sure it allows all traffic through port 26000 for both UDP and TCP protocols. You can read through the following article to see if it has information that can help solve this problem, http://kb.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=119 You can test your connection to our server by doing the following, if you encounter problems you can send us the results. To see whether you can get reach our servers or not, please do the following:
1. Press "Start" and select run. Write 'cmd' and press
2. Write 'telnet 87.237.38.200 26000' and wait for the process to finish. If the Command Prompt gives you an error and fails, you are most likely running a firewall of some sort which is blocking the traffic from your computer to our servers. You will need to fix that. However, if the window generates some scrambled letters, you are successfully contacting the servers and you'll need to make a pingplotter test with further connection info.
Here's how to do so: Download a program called pingplotter which is available here www.pingplotter.com. If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work. Run ping plotter and set it to trace to 87.237.38.200, this being the EVE server, then set it to run at 1 minute intervals for 60 runs and statistics to include these 60 intervals. After that then try to login to the EVE server with the program running in the background. If your connection drops while running the pingplotter program then check if you get any packet loss or unusually high ping times at any node along the way. Save the results as a pp2 file or take a screenshot and send it to us.

Darth Nerf: thanks for the advice, man. however, imho, the support people should be accountable not only before the individual they suggested some tricks to (me, in this case) but also before everyone who pays them money to play the game they developed. regarding the firewall/ping plotter/etc. I also got the suggestion from the support. the firewall is not my case. connected directly to a cable modem. sent them the pingplotter file. they replied that the connection is clean and suggested to join the help channel. did that with quite inconclusive results (see my previous message from 16:53 today). eventually joined to the Russian channel (400+ participants). again 2 hrs without a crash. it looks like the channels (constant chatter there) keeps the connection alive. can anyone confirm the above works for you?

This does NOT work for me. I have 3-4 channels with constant chatter and still get crashes.

Yup chat windows with constant chatter going on do not help there is no .dmp file generated for these crashes so cant send that ntl is not the cause event viewer places the blame squarely on the shoulders of python25.dll.

Today I lost my Falcon and pod to this.
I was outside of a station cloaked (watching war targets) and was disconnected. When I logged back in, I was immediatly disconnected. After logging back in again, I was in a station in a new pod.
The C++ error came with all of these disconnects.
I have an open petition, but I seriously doubt I'll get reimbursed. Last week I lost a rigged crow to desync and now this.

This is getting annoying, it seems the last patch truly messed up something in the game, it got again worse after last sunday, C++ errors and disconnects for me all the time now.

As someone else has posted here he has a friend in same city as him who has this problem he does not so he let his friend log on at his place and bam c++ errors yet when he then logged his own character on no errors this would suggest its not a client or computer problem but maybe server side somehow. Can i suggest that anyone who has a friend with this problem and you dont try the same thing log the different characters on and see if this is reproducible.

I've two accounts, and only one of them gets the error. Whatever PC i use, whatever connection, whatever, only one account crash (even with the 2 accounts on the same PC !!) Clearly server side

Edited by: Dionisius on 27/11/2007 15:29:25 As it ocorred that this might be a programing error and not a packet loss problem?
I only had one of these crashes and a friend of mine that lives near me, same ISP, same node crashes about 10+ times per day.
Only time i had this issue my OS freezed for about 2secs and the aplication itself closed with a C++ error.
This seems to be a compatibility/programmer flaw more than connection.
Also this does not generate a dumpfile wich seems to look like some thread conflicts with another while being processed or queued for it. _____________________________________

got the following:
For some players changing the connecting port to 3724 instead of the normal 26000 port has resolved the issue.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings folder if you use XP or C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\settings if you use VISTA.
Edit the PREFS.INI file. Please change the networkAdvanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1. You will notice that the Eve logon screen will now have a PORT option. Please type in 3724 into the box and connect as normal.
trying it now. so far no crashes...

Thats all well and good but what about people with 2 accounts and only one of them crashes and if you swap clients the bug follows a character and not a client? it's clearly something more than a simple connection issue. It really is a shame that ccp cares so little for its customer base that it cannot respond to this thread the numerous petitions even just to say they are aware of the issue and looking into it once again the PAYING customer base has to do ccp's job how about free accounts for everyone with this issue who is trying to fix it.

For those of us getting the error involving: Exefile SHUTDOWN Crashed 0xC0000005, minidump written in C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\#crash b41736 2007.11.26 04.03.40.dmp
Problem might be with a trojan that has gotten onto the computer...possibly located at c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web folders\ibm00002.dll...not something I like to admit, but deleting the file through windows safe mode with command prompt seemed to of solved the problem. oh and try a program called "a squared" to delete any other files that might try to re install "ibm00002.dll", "ibm00001.dll" was also in with the other file, delete it too, its a trojan also and serves no other purpose on your computer except to drive you insane.

I dont think this is the same problem as no crash files are generated for this problem.

After running Pingplotter constantly in the background I can't see that the quality of my connection has anything to do with the crashes/disconnects. No packet loss at the time of the disconnect, and I set pingplotter to poll every 15s.

This was the error I was getting. It was not a trojan, virus, spyware, or anything else that was not supposed to be on my system. It was the new drivers I installed from ATI. Their Catalyst drivers 7.11 broke my X850PE cards ability to use Direct3d completely. I uninstalled the new drivers, use Driver Cleaner to remove all traces, then installed Catalyst 7.8. My errors went away and I can get into EVE and some other games again. If you have an older ATI card and recently updated your drivers, try changing back, it can't hurt.

Same issue here, C++ crashes appearing randomly. My system has remained unchanged for quite a while, worked fine before...seems like a CCP issue.
The quote above also means I'll have limited options in Eve, as I don't feel like loosing a ship due to random disconnects. Half functioning software FTW ;)

I am so fed up w/ this problem. I've been crashing for the last 3 days. I've even nuked and reformatted my harddrive. The only program installed on my system is Windows XP and EVE.....Crashes every time w/ the C++ Runtime error. No crash log. No packet loss. Damn game just crashes. I hope Trinity fixes this. At least we only have a couple of more days until it comes out.

I had this C++ runtime error happen once when I first tried to run Eve. When the program closed, I noticed a message box asking if Eve program should be given full access to the network.
I clicked 'Give Full Access' and haven't had a problem since.
Hope this helps.
I run 32 bit Vista.
