Aye... I have had my Windows client crash out a couple of times that way... fortunately, not while doing anything more dangerous than organizing the hangar rats === Q u o t e: If the servers aren't up, its not a hotfix. |

Does a crash dump get generated when this occurs? If so, can you please file a bugreport and attach it.
If one is not generated, can you please paste the error message here. (you can copy the content of a windows popup dialogue simply by hitting ctrl+c).

Crashdumps should appear in C:\Documents and Settings\xx\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE, they have a name similar to : #crash b41736 2007.11.06 17.44.29.dmp

Edited by: Skurnick on 07/11/2007 21:33:38 This is what happens: The client will act as it does when the server crashes, ie. wallet balance will not show, loot on wrecks will not open/copy. The client then quits back to the login screen, with "Connection Lost". A message from the client about an error that should require a re-start of the client appears. The C++ error message pops up underneath.
No dump file, but this is the error message:
Quote: --------------------------- Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library --------------------------- Runtime Error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I just started a 14-day trial. I'm on a 20 inch Imac, 2 gig memory, 240mb ati graphics. Eve world is gorgeous. I've had the same c++ error three times and had to reboot in order to stop lossing connection. I thought if was a macintosh issue, but apparently not. Hope ccp takes care of it because so far I'm enjoying myself very much. Error message flashes on screen and promptly disappears. Hard to read all of it. Glad to be aboard; hope to stay permanently.

Error signature AppName: exefile.exe AppVer 3.21.0.35601 ModName: python25.dll ModVer: 2.5.1150.1013 Offset: 0005b429

I've played Eve for about one year now.
I'v never ever had a single 'crash' while playing until this patch.
Since the patch I've had 6 'crashes'. Same error message as people posted above.
Once it happen when I clicked to enter warp (was not AFK - had just flown there).
Another time I was AFK in a station for 5mins. Normally this would 'disconnect' me due to a timeout - but instead it crashed.
Cant remember the other crashes - but you get the idea. I'll post here if (when) I get another one.

I see this each time I lose network connection. Nothing is logged in the Windows event log and after a few seconds the popup message goes away. It doesn't happen if I cleanly shut down eve.
From my history.txt in C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE I'm getting things logged like:
2007.11.08 07:08:56SHUTDOWN [5492]Crashed 0xC0000005, minidump written in C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\#crash b41736 2007.11.08 07.08.55.dmp I'm on Vista.
0xC0000005 is a permissions error typically in Windows.

Isn't C++ OLD? Is C++ what all the games are wrtten in?
AND WHY are we having C++ crashes now??

I would file a petiton but they would just say it is my computer. And they would suggest that my drivers are old or need to be reinstalled.
Of course this is happening on BOTH my machines. And they both have differnte drivers and hardware.
SO CCP it isn't our machines! It is your programing. Please FIX it ASAP. Of coruse that is assuming you know what your programers did to missed it up.

My error is a bit more complicated than just CTD. My computer will lock up for about 10-20 seconds and then when it unfreezes my graphics are all jumbled and scrambled over the screen and the game is unplayable.
Sometimes it happens three times an hour and other times I can play for 4 hours straight with no problems. Only twice did it actually CTD with a runtime error.
This is the only patch that has caused these types of problems for me and is making EVE nearly unplayable since I only PVP and crashing in PVP is totally unacceptable.

The same C++ runtime lib error is happening to me, on all my PC's (WinXP Prof), no dump file of course but if You want kinda proof - I can send You screenshots.
To CCP dev team: I'll say it that way: guys, get Your ass to work and fix it! We are all Your customers, paying hard earned money (little reminder: many ppl got multiple accounts!) for service that isn't working properly for few days already (in fact playing in such circumstances is almost impossible)! Yeah, yeah, You'll say "server is online, we're all doing fine" - we don't care! At least say something, whatever, that You're "aware of", "working on" etc. etc. cause i.e me and my corpmates that suffering the same bug feels like You don't have even a bit respect for us, CUSTOMERS! Crashes appeared after last client patch but last 2 days became a real nightmare for many, many players. We are waiting for Your response.

I don't know if there is any relation between the two, but I was having this problem in conjunction with my "CONNECTION TO SERVER LOST" errors. Once I solved my connection to server issue, this C++ problem also went away.
My solution was to disable my D-LINK 624 wireless antenna in the router setup. All of my "connection to server" errors have since vanished and low and behold, no more C++ errors. If I re-enable my wireless antenna, the connection errors come back. I didn't see any C++ errors, but I didn't keep the antenna enabled long enough.
Coincedence? No clue honestly...but that worked for me and it really makes me wonder if the two issues are tied together.

Got no wireless LAN, didn't change any hardware and software setups since about 2 months. Everything was fine until yesterdays morning (i noticed that there had to be server crash at tuesday early morning or night) and then just like "magic touch" *poof!* started crashing, time after time, on all 4 PC's. I doubt if it's my hardware or connection problem especially if i.e WoW or Lineage working fine all the time.

Also get this random error message and disconnects my accounts every 5 mins on some days and only a couple of times a day on others. Is becoming unplayable.
Just so you know if you have more than one account active at the same time, it does affect all the accounts simultaneously and generates the message once per account.
Thanks

Same C++ error messages as already posted.
I have had it with both accounts running, one account running, and luckily, I have not yet had it happen with neither account running. ( -_- haha. )
1 account is currently in .8, the other is in 0.0 . I didnt have both drop at once, but it went from one giving me trouble to the other.
Just got this computer back from repairs, but before patch had *Perfect* gameplay. Maybe a drop from a fleet battle, but nothing near the errors im getting now.
This is a serious gameplay issue; getting dropped every 5 or so minutes. If it is not resolved I will not be renewing.

I don't know whether to be optimistic, but I had a little session last night (less than an hour) wherein I didn't crash once. First time in a week I've been able to play more than 5 minutes without crashing out. The last thing I did was alter how the cache files are stored. I can't remember which of the half-dozen related threads that tip is posted in. That didn't work for me right away, but maybe shutting down my computer spurred things into action . . ?
I'm half expecting it to crash again when I play tonight, but I'm hoping for the best.

I think I figured it out today....
I shut down my PC and unplugged the power to the back of my modem and router. waited 30 seconds. plugged the power into the modem ... waited for lights to normalize. plugged in the router... waited for lights to normalize. Turned on PC... Ran EVE... Smooth as butter! For NOW...
Perhaps this problem is nothing more than a build up of info stored in the bridging table of the modem and router.
Try the same process with your connections... if you don't have a router just leve that step out.

The only time I've had this error is when i use the MyFreedom free service to connect to eve. When my 1 hour runs out it forces a disconnect and I get the C++ error.
So maybe this is caused by third party programs ending the connection to Eve?

The fact that CCP has only responding in the beginning of this post, asking for more details, and has yet to even acknowledge that there even is a problem (or, perhaps it's a "feature") is very disheartening.
A simple, "we are aware of the problem and are currently looking into a solution" would go a LONG WAY to keeping the masses satisfied while you can focus on fixing the problem.

I think The game has something like destruction for system. It must be any unfortunately reason when he activated and be done, but faster or later it must happen. I played well few days after last patch and suddenly all was broken. 8 disconects in 3 hours. System must be any damage in system now. Reinstalls Eve-online not help.

Have had this problem for about a week now, no problems before hand. Its seems like I lose connection or very bad lag, nothing happens for a while, even Ventrilo doesn't respond and when it crashes and the runtime error pops up, I need to restart my computer to connect back to internet. I thought it might be a conflict between the EvE client and Ventrilo as have only been using Ventrilo for a bout a week ... coincidence or not? .....

ccp come on im a old faithful customer and i enjoy playing this game, i know the pitfuls of online games the lag ect ect all taking into account i still play yours......i get this problem and have had it for 2 weeks, the game is unplayable.
I remember a time when you had issues with the server after a patch and the community screamed out for some honesty and fair play, and basically just be told what was going on, you stepped up and delivered with often funny comments from sharkbait or wrangler telling us what was happening and what your team was doing. good friendly banter on the forums was the result. while we waited for your hardwork to pay off.
Once again you've taken the wrong route and your service is suffering, you know what i mean......please....some communication is needed. Thanks

I suffer from this problem from time to time and have tracked my issue down to packet loss / lag.
A bit of background: The nature of my internet connections [wireless broadband] means that a bunch of symmetric connections to the internet will cause packetloss, when monitoring network traffic and playing EVE, I'll get this error at times right after several lost packets in a row. If I cut down on the number of connections I'm using [the radio device can only handle so many channels at a time, thus causing packet prioritization] the issue goes away immediately.
It's reproducible, after a fact, for me due to the fact that I can cause my network connection to have packet loss. In the past [before this patch] I would normally just CTD if such an event were to occur, the only difference is now that I get a C++ error message first.
The issue arises when you've been inactive for a bit, packet loss occurred, then you attempt to refresh your session with the server. Since the server believes you'd already disconnected, your client connection is dropped and in so doing, this error is thrown.
Might not be the same everyone, but it certainly seems to be my issue.

Really don't think packet loss accounts for it:
I have my main account here and have been using it fine and dandy (lucky me!) However one of my mates has two accounts which are having the C++ errors.
We tried his accounts on my pc, lo and behold, they had C++ errors come up and disconnect him. Conversely, we tried my account on his machine (in a different area of the same city...) and it worked fine.
Given the info stated above about server side data problems, a client side communication problem doesn't seem likely now does it? :)

Yesterday received a reply for my petition:
2007.11.25 16:50:00 GM Xamother ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi,
Could you please run the game with logserv running and make the game crash and send us the logserv file and the crash dump file. Reproduction step are very important part of the report. Write exactly what you did to make the problem happen. This will help the programmers see where the problem is, and hopefully make it happen on their own computers. Reproduction steps are required for your report to be useful, even if you have attached logs to your report.
Using the logserver (to minimize problems with this, its recommended that you either restart your computer or check Task managers process list for unresponsive instances of Eve.exe)
1. Find your Eve folder in Windows Explorer 2. When you have the Eve folder open, find "logserver.exe" and launch it (Do NOT have EVE running) 3. Select "File" -> "New Workspace" 4. Start Eve like you would normally do 5. When you have reproduced the bug, Eve crashes or when you kill the process if it hangs, select "File" -> "Save workspace as..." and save the workspace in a place you'll find it again.
Finding the crashdump
1. Locate folder "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" 2. Find the .dmp file with the most recent time stamp. Files called #error*.txt are useless.
Could you please upload the files by login into http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/Petitions/MyPetitions.aspx and locating this petition from there.
Best regards, Senior GM Xamother EVE Online Customer Support
Will try it tonight.

Edited by: azarij on 26/11/2007 16:54:12 Hi again,
It looks like there is a solution for the issue we all are experiencing. Received this from CCP support today: Hi,
The connection log you sent us, seems to be clean (no packet loss). Could you please try and join the ingame help channel (as this is an active channel) and see if that prevents you from losing connection to the server?
Thank you for your patience in this matter and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.
Best regards, Senior GM Xamother EVE Online Customer Support
Joined the Help channel. Playing for 2+(!!!) hrs without a crash/disconnection. Try it guys. Please note that I don't guarantee it will work for you. It works for me at the moment. Good luck!
UPD: god damn it! while I was writing this post the game crashed =) Probably you need to play constantly while joined to the help channel without leaving the game in AFK and/or ALT+TABbing to other apps...

I think you will understand when i say it involved cut and paste, and was totally unhelpfu l but in a apologetic way

I might be banned from the game for revealing here the CCP's answers to my petitions?

Hey dude, just remove the GM's name and let the other stuff stay. I can't believe CCP would ban someone for posting useful solutions for others to see....

posted in the other thread to check if packet loss is the reason for crashes:
Quote: If you have a router with a firewall or a software firewall make sure it allows all traffic through port 26000 for both UDP and TCP protocols. You can read through the following article to see if it has information that can help solve this problem, http://kb.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=119 You can test your connection to our server by doing the following, if you encounter problems you can send us the results. To see whether you can get reach our servers or not, please do the following:
1. Press "Start" and select run. Write 'cmd' and press
2. Write 'telnet 87.237.38.200 26000' and wait for the process to finish. If the Command Prompt gives you an error and fails, you are most likely running a firewall of some sort which is blocking the traffic from your computer to our servers. You will need to fix that. However, if the window generates some scrambled letters, you are successfully contacting the servers and you'll need to make a pingplotter test with further connection info.
Here's how to do so: Download a program called pingplotter which is available here www.pingplotter.com. If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work. Run ping plotter and set it to trace to 87.237.38.200, this being the EVE server, then set it to run at 1 minute intervals for 60 runs and statistics to include these 60 intervals. After that then try to login to the EVE server with the program running in the background. If your connection drops while running the pingplotter program then check if you get any packet loss or unusually high ping times at any node along the way. Save the results as a pp2 file or take a screenshot and send it to us.

Darth Nerf: thanks for the advice, man. however, imho, the support people should be accountable not only before the individual they suggested some tricks to (me, in this case) but also before everyone who pays them money to play the game they developed. regarding the firewall/ping plotter/etc. I also got the suggestion from the support. the firewall is not my case. connected directly to a cable modem. sent them the pingplotter file. they replied that the connection is clean and suggested to join the help channel. did that with quite inconclusive results (see my previous message from 16:53 today). eventually joined to the Russian channel (400+ participants). again 2 hrs without a crash. it looks like the channels (constant chatter there) keeps the connection alive. can anyone confirm the above works for you?

Yup chat windows with constant chatter going on do not help there is no .dmp file generated for these crashes so cant send that ntl is not the cause event viewer places the blame squarely on the shoulders of python25.dll.

Today I lost my Falcon and pod to this.
I was outside of a station cloaked (watching war targets) and was disconnected. When I logged back in, I was immediatly disconnected. After logging back in again, I was in a station in a new pod.
The C++ error came with all of these disconnects.
I have an open petition, but I seriously doubt I'll get reimbursed. Last week I lost a rigged crow to desync and now this.

As someone else has posted here he has a friend in same city as him who has this problem he does not so he let his friend log on at his place and bam c++ errors yet when he then logged his own character on no errors this would suggest its not a client or computer problem but maybe server side somehow. Can i suggest that anyone who has a friend with this problem and you dont try the same thing log the different characters on and see if this is reproducible.

I've two accounts, and only one of them gets the error. Whatever PC i use, whatever connection, whatever, only one account crash (even with the 2 accounts on the same PC !!) Clearly server side

Edited by: Dionisius on 27/11/2007 15:29:25 As it ocorred that this might be a programing error and not a packet loss problem?
I only had one of these crashes and a friend of mine that lives near me, same ISP, same node crashes about 10+ times per day.
Only time i had this issue my OS freezed for about 2secs and the aplication itself closed with a C++ error.
This seems to be a compatibility/programmer flaw more than connection.
Also this does not generate a dumpfile wich seems to look like some thread conflicts with another while being processed or queued for it. _____________________________________

got the following:
For some players changing the connecting port to 3724 instead of the normal 26000 port has resolved the issue.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings folder if you use XP or C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\settings if you use VISTA.
Edit the PREFS.INI file. Please change the networkAdvanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1. You will notice that the Eve logon screen will now have a PORT option. Please type in 3724 into the box and connect as normal.

Thats all well and good but what about people with 2 accounts and only one of them crashes and if you swap clients the bug follows a character and not a client? it's clearly something more than a simple connection issue. It really is a shame that ccp cares so little for its customer base that it cannot respond to this thread the numerous petitions even just to say they are aware of the issue and looking into it once again the PAYING customer base has to do ccp's job how about free accounts for everyone with this issue who is trying to fix it.

For those of us getting the error involving: Exefile SHUTDOWN Crashed 0xC0000005, minidump written in C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\#crash b41736 2007.11.26 04.03.40.dmp
Problem might be with a trojan that has gotten onto the computer...possibly located at c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web folders\ibm00002.dll...not something I like to admit, but deleting the file through windows safe mode with command prompt seemed to of solved the problem. oh and try a program called "a squared" to delete any other files that might try to re install "ibm00002.dll", "ibm00001.dll" was also in with the other file, delete it too, its a trojan also and serves no other purpose on your computer except to drive you insane.

After running Pingplotter constantly in the background I can't see that the quality of my connection has anything to do with the crashes/disconnects. No packet loss at the time of the disconnect, and I set pingplotter to poll every 15s.

This was the error I was getting. It was not a trojan, virus, spyware, or anything else that was not supposed to be on my system. It was the new drivers I installed from ATI. Their Catalyst drivers 7.11 broke my X850PE cards ability to use Direct3d completely. I uninstalled the new drivers, use Driver Cleaner to remove all traces, then installed Catalyst 7.8. My errors went away and I can get into EVE and some other games again. If you have an older ATI card and recently updated your drivers, try changing back, it can't hurt.

Same issue here, C++ crashes appearing randomly. My system has remained unchanged for quite a while, worked fine before...seems like a CCP issue.
The quote above also means I'll have limited options in Eve, as I don't feel like loosing a ship due to random disconnects. Half functioning software FTW ;)
