YES. All I do is pvp. No problems on a alu Imac 20" 10.5.1. Only time I lock up is when im pulling up character info on a WT while in warp, and that isn't every time.

I am new to EVE as well, but I have been lusting after a space based MMORPG so I'll put up with a few bugs to start with. I know its sacrelige to mention anything other than EVE but WoW also wasn't that dialed in for a long time after the MAC client was released. I experience a total freeze once for every 5 hours of gametime. It's simple to fix: just reboot. A PC takes five minutes to start, while a MAC takes 1 and a half max. If I'm just logging to train or grind its not bad just frustrating. As others have said, I support MAC client dev so I will put up with a little hassle to encourage improvements. I think the issue may have more to do with the latency of your interent connection than anything else. When I am at home I can only connect through a laggy router with bad ethernet and the game is SLOW. If I go to someplace with a strong router and great connection the program rarely has an issue.
Running: MAC Book Pro 2.4ghz, 1gb, Mid range card (I've forgotten what it is and I'm at work without my computer)
Hopefully the fix will come with TRINITY!!!!

No.
The gameplay is not compelling (I was looking for something to take me away from the grind-fest that is WoW, but all I'm doing now is mining). The graphics problems crash my computer.
I'm going to keep trying to build my character during the last week of the free trial, then hang around to see if CCP announces any major bugfixes or performance improvements. Or perhaps I'll run into some group of people who can show me how to have fun in this game despite the laggy interface and random crashes.
The game as it stands is not worth $20/month. But it's only been three days, we'll see if I can find something worth staying for.
Originally by: Ommes WoW also wasn't that dialed in for a long time after the MAC client was released.
WoW was released simultaneously for Windows and Mac, and worked beautifully for me on my Mac from day 1.

Yes
Works very well for me on a MBP, only minor cosmetic glitches that will surely be ironed out in a few patches.
I've been away from Eve since 2003 and after switching to a mac a few years ago thought I'd never get a chance to come back, but here I am :)

Originally by: Tyranis Bolke I have to say, given the way Blizzard supports Macs and Windows with the WoW Client (which does provide the same experience with additional features as that Windows users have), I find this quite dissappointing. Come on CCP, give us a Mac Native version. Consider it a Christmas present for your loyal fans.
Remember that Blizzard has been building their games to be cross platform from the beginning since Starcraft. I can't comment about W2 or Diablo 1, but the Windows Starcraft CDs had an embryonic non-functioning Mac version on them; it was a few months late, but it was clearly meant to exist from the start. WoW and W3 had Mac in mind from the very beginning, and had simultaneous releases with their Windows counterparts.
Taking something such as EVE that has been developed over the course of 4 years to be Windows only and suddenly demanding a native Mac version is unreasonable. There must be DirectX stuff all over the codebase since there was no need to abstract it.
Clearly, a native client would be a better solution from a functionality perspective. But when you're talking about a game with a userbase of around 200k, it just doesn't make sense to invest that much time in a Mac client.
I am a Mac user, and I really want a Mac client for EVE. I just also happen to be a game programmer, and have some idea about how difficult the task really is.

Hell NO
See my post on finder problems after running EVE, http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=650610 The only way that they could get me to play after my trial was up was if i could buy game time with isk, but at 200 million isk per 30 days that is not going to happen in a trial period.
Their are just currently too many bug, and with random game lock ups it is getting frustrating as hell. Some serious changes will need to happen before I pay USD for this game, too bad it is a great game.

Yes! Absolutely. I started in Windows in Boot Camp, and have switched to the Mac Client. I have an original Intel iMac with 1.5 Gig of RAM and the X1600 Graphics. I get consistently 19-25 fps no matter where I am, and it is otherwise the same gaming experience I get in windows on any of my systems. Remember that movies in the theater are only 24 fps, TV in Europe is 25 fps and TV in North America is 30 fps, so I don't see 19 - 25 fps as a serious performance problem. Your eye can't tell the difference between 30 fps and 120 fps, and computer monitors (LCD's anyway) only refresh 60 times per second anyway. The high fps value is only a cool brag right for graphics card manufacturers.
Trinity has a new graphics engine that has universally higher fps (until you load the premium content) on my windows machines, so I expect the same performance boost will be in the Mac Client.
I do get the random freezing, always when jumping, warping or docking. Command-Option-Esc always gets me back to the desktop to restart, and it only happens once every couple of hours.
I have now spent many hours playing using the Mac Client, and have no compelling reason to run the Windows client.

Well while it is still not quite up to its PC version in funtionality and glitches IMHO its is working pretty well on my nice new 24"Imac.
As a matter of fact ITS BLOODY AMAZING!!!
We need to support the Mac client if we ever want it to be as good as the windows one. After all its new and new things are always buggy.
I have been using EVE on the 24" Imac and a MB (now that is flacky) which is gr8 for market and science work but not good for missions due the graphics irregularities. Someone please look at getting more functionality on them(macbooks)please. Mine looks gr8 then just goes weird.

YES, and I have subscribed.
My hardware: MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, nVidia 8600 running Tiger; AirPort Extreme connected to a DSL modem.
I usually run EVE client in in-window mode (cmd-return) with Safari, text edit, system monitor, and sometimes OpenOffice/X11 open. Effects are turned off. I like to play in the tactical view, zoomed out to see 50km-radius sphere around the ship for better situational awareness.
After the first Mac patch, the client has been rock-solid. CPU cores are never fully loaded (25%/75%), even with ~15 NPC ships buzzing around.
My main complaint is that the game has been a major drag on my real life. :)
We'll see if things will be the same after the Trinity patch. I'm a bit disappointed to hear that the premium content is not supported on the Mac client.

Absolutly not.
Unless I play crossover, my screen is torn apart by graphical errors which make it near impossible to undock (this never, or rarely, happens in stations). These graphical errors range anywhere from modules being out of place to my screen flickering pink and red lines until I restart the client, only for it to happen again.
Just play crossover, its not worth it.

I'd say yes.
Though freezes do occur I've only noticed them when I'm pushing my clients to it's limits... Opening lots of info windows rapidly while warping and playing in market. Although there have been a few freezes outside of this, you won't be in 0.0 in a titan anytime soon so go ahead and start playing, just say in 0.6 or higher space. Who cares if the rats kill your frig? Just drop the 30k and buy a new one... no harm done.
Also the GM's are great about replacing ships lost due to bugs. Just open a petition about it and chances are they will gladly help. They know the game isn't perfect just like we do.
Although do NOT get your hopes up about the trinity patch as it's not working for mac yet and there is no telling when it will. All I've heard about it is "early 08" which could mean anything (Somewhere from January to June). :(
Still, it's a fun game worth playing. Join a corp!! You have no idea how much your game experience improves :D

Yes, just about, but if you can find a copy of windows somewhere you'll get much better running XP via bootcamp. I do both: stay in OS X for quick sessions, but reboot into windows if i'll be playing a while.

Yes I'm paying now.
I did the 14 day trial, and it has some problems, but in general it runs...OK. I'm not getting into dangerous sectors yet (or less than 0.6) and I admittedly have frustrating sessions where I can't do anything without a CPU reboot due to graphics/memory leaks that don't release on logout. However, in the 30-40 days I've been playing (at least 1-2 hours actively per day) I've only had three days where things were so bad I had to reboot or give up playing.
I don't get the graphics errors I've seen in other posts, in fact the only big problem I have (and Cider/CCP know about it) is the damn untrackable "poof" when the app quits, no logged error, no warning, and they know it is happening and they are trying to find it as well. Granted I don't know how things will be further in, but as this game takes TIME to master, if you are a NEW player with the mac version (not a WIN -> MAC switch) and your hardware is up to spec, it works pretty well, IMHO.

On a first-get Macbook Pro (Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo, even), my answer is a definite YES. Been extremely pleased with it, allowing me to log in and play on the go, or even just to log in and do skill changes at work and such. Haven't had any issues so far.

Yes! My Mac mini plays it fine on a 24" screen. I only run into issues in Jita, but my Windows comp does too. I average 15-30 fps in battle which is plenty for PVE and small PVP encounters. I cannot comment on massive fleet battles though.

No I can't push things at all. I must behave very politely with the interface.. Benign operations like raising a chat window before a Get Info finished fetching an avatar is apparently too much to ask. I greatly fear the Market window; its a crash button.
.. and such things. Not playable enough to justify a monthly fee. Sorries..

Probably not
Just started the trial yesterday and have had quite a few unexpected quits at random times along with the map getting a screwy every other time I open it. It doesn't like letting me click on any buttons. Graphics are cool, but could use some better shading in clouds and edges need to be smoothed off.

This sort of graphical artifacts are usually caused by unsupported hardware, such as the Macbooks with an integrated Intel graphics card.

easy solution - start supporting them. The macbook (w/o pro) is not a bad platform its high performant (classic client on bootcamp runs very fast and smooth).
while the following variables are set as they are - i say no: windowed = NO OS lockups = yes framerate on a duocore macbook = turtle premium content = lol, dream on
Wanna risk your capital in a fleetfight not knowing when the next OS lockup may happen?
As long you just support very specific hi end mac's with very specific GFX chipsets - you dont have a "mac client" - but you have a "with some luck you can trade tritanium from a NPC station application"
...i am an eve addict since almost 5 years, ill stay true to you guys. But dont betray yourself and your customers thats not in CCPs tradition imo. Warn potential subscribers beyong legal requirements about what they can expect, and especially - what they cannot - compare to windows business class pilots.

This is not CCP's issue.. or Transgameing's.. this is all Apple, the drivers for the built-in video card is subpar, you should open a ticket with Apple, the more people who report the issue with them the more support CCP/TG will get from Apple.
