Yeah I stopped to watch for about 5 mins but Yulai was getting way overcrowded and was probably close to crashing.
When I left there was 177 ppl in local and by the looks of it most of them were around the amarr gate.

Yeah it was amazing, I saw 230+ and the ONLY thing that wasn't perfect was client-side stuff - low FPS when rendering 120 ships for instance.
Wonderful!

Did the GMs already get involved? Heck, just take your BS with 2 MWD on it and ram the support ships out of range so they cannot send shield to the "killer" ship. Once alone, the killer ship is toast.

Those guys have balls to do this in a 1.0 system but killing nearly 100 trader, miner and ppl in shuttles is just lame. There were dozens of concord ships and didnŠt have a chance against the pirats. Not even their sec rate changed that much even after 85 podkilles. I was NOT afk. I jumped with my autopilot to the gate and wondered why I expirienced so much lag as I saw all the Zombie and concord ships 1 second before I died. Just weird that my ship died in the same second as i died. I hope they get a loooooooong eve vacation. Is 0.0 not big enough??

Edited by: Novo DuPont on 04/03/2004 00:18:00 This is NOT a new tactic just a variation of one Space Invaders used awhile back to defeat sentry guns in 0.4-0,1 space.
Thing is DEV's have been warned MANY TIMES about the possiblity of EXTREME game imbalance by this tactic. They were told MANY TIMES that CCP needs to make supporting aggresive ships a AGGRESIVE act just as jamming is now.
The DEV's did not listen to us testers so now they have to bear the brunt of LEGIT petitions and complaints for ignoring such a potential game destroying tactic.
I don't think what ZOMBIE members did is a bannable offence. They should of done the RIGHT thing though and showed it to BH and DEV's in the CHAOS server FIRST and not on the game server. I , along with many others, CAN fault them for that and they should get suspended AND have all their isk, from all alts as well and corp wallet, taken away for what they did.
If you truely want to make the game better ruining it for others is not the way to go.
I can bet good money that in the VERY near future supporting aggresive ships will be concidered a aggresive act by NPC's.

So basicly, its ok to use exploits just so you can "prove to the devs that this needs fixing"? ... Get a grip
CCP knew this could be done, guess what... THAT's why it isn't allowed and classified at explointing.

WHere did I say it's ok????
Plus its not a exploit, its a game imbalance in the mechanics. If CCP did not want to classify lagging clients to kill their ships while they loaded as a exploit, this the sure is not.
STILL does not give them the right to do it on the game server.

your not geting it .. Concord only attacks the first person that attacks. when he is dead they move onto the next one in correct order. so if say corp A is blockading the gate like zombie were doing. Corp B could attack everyone there and only suffer a securaty status hit but no cops/sentries until the first agressor is dead or gone.

I "get it" perfectly since ALL the support ships not only had sec ratings 0.0 and above, but the support ships take NO SEC RATING HIT if supporting a aggresive ship. SO they have NO RISK what so ever for supporting a aggresive ship. Used to be before jamming became aggresive act that ships would be fitted just for jamming and let the other guy do the shooting. If you shot the jamming ship you took a sec hit.
If helping a criminal escape, hide them, feed them, cloth them etc. is a crime, then in game anyone who helps a criminal should get a sec rating hit as well.
The NPC system does not always hit the first aggresive ship either, it looks for the weakest ship to target each time it destroys a ship. They don't attack in the order ships attack them.

1. IT IS AN EXPLOIT CCP HAS SAID TIME AND TIME AGAIN STUFF LIKE THIS IS EXPLOITATION.. ( and anyways you said it was due to a game inbalance... yes they exploited the imbalance... use your head) 2. saying 1.0 isnt safe is completely retarded. 1.0 is supposed to be safe, if you can just get ganked anywhere, what are n00bs supposed to do? give me a break man! this is what 0.0 is for, anyone arguing for the fact that this was original and fair should have their head checked.... or are just trolls... however this all in the end falls on CCP yet again, i'm sure they will fix it now, its just too bad it came to this... as someone on IRC said dont ban em, just make them miss a few million skillpoints in their gunnery and ship command skills

Ganking and griefing in 1.0 is not allowed by any means. It's 1.0 for a reason. Anyone doing this in 1.0 should be banned for at least a month, period. Especialy if you're doing it in yulai. It's just exploiting to the max, even m0o doesn't do that (anymore).

2 weeks ago, Bourynes. At the roid belt. Bourynes is a 1.0 system, and it's also the starter system for one of the Gallente races. I got podded at the belt after hearing about it on the Help channel.. Petitioned and was told there was no exploit being used since Concord was present and actively attacking the ship being tanked..

Whilst I personally didn't agree with what happened I really wish you'd all grow up a little and stop with the tears. It's not griefing nor exploiting. It's indiscriminate killing using the modules that are freely available for any to use.
So its in 1.0, so what. The autopilot has an "avoid pod kill areas" button for a reason.
That the GM's had to come wading in is not surprising. Any pilot who died after the 20th or so is just plain irresponsible for not checking his route regularly and deserved to get blown up. The red blob saying don't come here was plainly visible. Regrettably far too many pilots in this galaxy seem to think they have an inalienable right to be safe at all times. Tough, it's space, it's dangerous, get over it.
I'd rather that the AI was simply adjusted so that concord attacked the gang as a whole, i.e. each concord ship attacked several targets rather than just one. I know when I fight I dont always cherry pick targets but sometimes spread fire across several. So why shouldnt concord do it.
Ok, so what the hell is this Golden Ratio? |

In my oppinion this isn't an exploit, or a bug. In real life there are riots sometimes, and the cops don't always win. This situation should be roleplyed. Like I said before in this thread I think this kind of behaviour should cause CONCORD to put you on a black list so to speak. Anyone involved in the crime should have a permamnent -10 sec and should be podded by CONCORD and navy ships.
Basically this is totally ok to do, but it should draw attention from ingame elements. This is after all a RPG.

Edited by: Zasra on 04/03/2004 01:51:13 Well on one hand it sucks that this happened, a real black eye for a game trying to grow beyond 'niche' status and survive. On the other hand, I'm not for totally safe spots anywhere, it's just too bad the scumbags had to use a exploit to do it. Real shame.
Anyway, they should handle punishment in game. First, the offending jackasses get slapped with perma -10 with CONCORD and any npc corps. Second the victims get the benefit of a class action lawsuit against CORCORD (for their incompetance) and receive 50 million isk each. That should easily cover implant/module losses, coupled with insurance, should be more than sufficent compensation (probably most people lost a lot less).
Anyway just my thoughts...

Think before you post, please, for the children?
Its not up to you or I to decide what constitutes for exploitation of game mechanics and what doesn't. The developers do. And what do the developers have to say about that? Any means used to avoid the consequences (ship destruction) in secure space when being agressive towards people whom you are not at war with is classified as EXPLOITATION OF GAME MECHANICS.
Get a clue.
I don't really care that Zombie Inc did it, it has no effect on my gameplay because I can't even go to Yulai much less get killed by them. But it does affect a lot of other people's gameplay.
No, you should not have to check the map to see if Yulai is "safe to travel through".
No, its not an original tactic, and the fact that most pvp corps know about this but don't do it in secure space speaks volumes as to its legitimacy.
You say people are whining because their "automatic safespot" is attacked, and I say let them. Morons who pull stupid stunts like this for no other reason than to GANK SH*T should be taken out of the game, especially after they so blatantly refused to co-operate even after a GM told them it was exploitation. This probably created a massive backlog of legitimate petitions already, and some people actually have the nerve to defend it!?
You want things spiced up in Yulai, is that it Roninman? Lets see how you cope with a game where this happens on a daily basis, anywhere. Because as far as I'm concerned, if behaviour like this isn't royally beaten down, it just invites every other ganker in the universe to PK there.

This has certainly been an interesting thread; although I am surprised that Zombie Inc hasn't weighed in on this thread yet.
Anyway, this "tactic" and abuse of a game weakness deserves some kind of response by the authorities and hopefully a fix for supporting aggressive ships.
Also, I think it would be fun if this makes the news ticker in some form of Concord press release.

It is a questionable area about support ships, I'm not sure what took place in Yulia, but I've often wondered why you dont get a sheild tanked scorp with web and warp jammers in 1.0 space and dozen peeps sensor/tracking/sheild and cap boosting them. Could happily sit there chaining Concord like that, if they dropped anthing or the NPC pirate factions gave you some bounty isk for doin it :/.
So fair, balanced - still a longway on both side of the fence.

gawd stop the yelling everyone!! lool 1.0 is 100% space, secure space, empire space, an entire race's space, an entire race's empire's space, trust me... a couple of pirate corps could not under ANY circumstances take control of a metropolis system as Yulai.. It is in the heart of an entire race's claimed region.. heh u get my drift..
But in this game its possible, how? i have no ****in idea.. why not give concord like 10% more ships spawning there time after time?? why not? every other game u can imagine has near impossible odds for this a bold move. to try to claim (even if that wasnt their goal) a system in the heart of empire space.. should not, NOT EVER, be possible by anything less than another empire. Amen. God i gotta change my sig..

"they are currently working on a fix that would prevent this in the future. Best Regards, GM Wyrm."
the best would be that all the zombies (or the peeps who was into it) gets banned. and ill be happy if they do. no morron has the right to destroy the joy of this game.

This is an exploit. Lots of beginning players stay in 1.0 area until they can get adjusted to the game. You have just discouraged 100 beginners from playing this game. You destroyed weeks of their work, and it's really hard to get started. CCP has said that fighting in 1.0 is a bannable offence and I hope you get what you deserve.

This is a common misconception. I started the game just a couple months ago, so I still remember my totally-newb days. The one thing that discouraged me most was the lack of action. Nothing was ever happening. I joined some noob corp and it had some other noob people and they lost ships to various things, sometimes, and none of them took those losses seriously. It's a freaken game, you can't always win. And in this game, you barely ever die as a noob. And you have virtually nothing to lose either, clone is dirt cheap, ship is dirt cheap. Your corp will happily give you the money to buy all the best stuff your skills can support. It's ok for noobs to lose a few ships, why is that so hard to understand?
What you should be concerned about is people who hunt down particular noobs, killing them over and over again. Random kills are not it. Plus Zombie stayed in one place, it was easy to avoid. If anything, this was just educational material for them. It's hardly anything worth quiting a game for, unless you joined with idea that this is Sims Online in space and any form of violence gives you heart attack.
So stop being so paranoid about the noobs, mmkay?

That's good for you, but do you speak for every type of player, or are you implying that your style of play is the only one that should be supported, and everyone else can be damned?
I seriously doubt CCP is only trying to appeal to your playstyle. From what I can tell they are trying to be more than just a niche game that appeals to the UO Felluca 'serial-killa' type player. Somewhere in the middle is probably more likely.

I was a victim of this too. I've been playing a whole week and this really came as a surprise. I was helping some corp mate transport and had come through this area not 10 minutes or so before it started. It was quiet then, why would I have thought it'd have all of a sudden become a kill fest. Especially since 1.0 space was supposed to be fairly secure.
I didn't expect to jump to an area and get hit with smart bomb after smart bomb, or to be unable to even think of getting away. But I was lucky my ship was empty and I was insured. So I made money off the death. ;)

Yeah, much as I don't agree with what Zombie did, I would like to see a video of the action. Don't think they've too much to fear from releasing it as the devs will have records of everyone that was involved.
We were due to travel back through Yulai last night, but guys on our corp channel were screaming "Avoid Yulai at all costs!" Had to take a peek though, after buying a shuttle in Amarr and making sure my clone was up to date. Was too late to see the main action though

1. Prevent this from happening, i am sure they can make it so no shooting can be done in 1.0 space or 2. Leave it as is. In which case those who carried out the attacks should not be banned, and these tactics classed as legitimate.
Until ccp make that decision stop moaning and live with it.

All I got to say to Zombie is:
yeah it was a diffrent situation.. not so mutch diffrent.. m0o used things that was availble to al but not balanced.. they dident get banned so why should zombie.. yeah yeah 1.0 so if they had done it in 0.9 it wouldve been more okey m0o dident get banned zombie shouldnt either they where first also.. and didnt the ship that was doing the aggression die eventualy? casue i cant think of one way that he couldve gotten away from that position alive.. a maybe a few ways but thats ways thats like every other thing thats being disscused anyway they have stated that if you get away when you attack in 1.0 its an exploit yeah.. but supporting a ship aint so they did what they where allowd to do.. just alittle sad loophole anyway its not an exploit until its said one and supporting a ship wasnt befor they did it anyway
only thing im getting angry about is that now the devs will work on this first and make a fix for it and probably make shiva 1 month later cause they had to fix this now

Hi,
I think I turned up late to this. By the time my corp mates and I arrived most of the shooting had stopped (we're in a newbie corp so just popped along for a look). I warped in at about 60km and after quite a long load time saw an amazing sight (hundreds of ships). We had someone who travelled over 40 jumps just to see. He said it was worth the journey.
Apart from a small amount of lag as I initially warped in I was surprised to see how well everything ran. (The only problem was that I seemed to gain a white gas cloud around my ship. Which someone guessed at being the shield hardening graphic). So good job to CCP on all their server side improvements for large fleets.
I'm not going to comment on whether what they did is right or wrong. What I will say is that they probably chose a bad day. Patch day, everyone at CCP was probably very tired after dealing with all the petitions etc. from that and to then have to deal with this 'situation'.

I thought the whole thing was rather sweet.
The problem as I see it is that concord are only a minor threat to an organised team.
If CCP wished for this sort of thing to never happen, they could easily make concord far more powerful (one-shot kill powerful).
As it is, they just represent a challenge.
Zombie stepped up to the challenge.
For reasons quite beyond my comprehension, my name was bought into this. Quite why, I don't know, but I was getting convos in game, and in IRC all over the place last night.
I was just the cameraman. I was sitting in a shuttle 160km away from the fight. I didn't know what they were planning until they started.
I congratulate them.
And to the guy who said it was 'just killing noobies'... get a grip, they were killing *everything* indiscriminately. I noticed josh calvert at the gate for approximately 8 seconds, and a few other people I recognised.
What strikes me as the *worst* thing, is that, out of the 100-200 non-hostiles at the gate, *NOBODY* tried to do anything about it. They all just waited for the GM's to come in and fix it for them.
As I sat there recording the fun and poddings, I was going through the various ways an 'upstanding' player/corp could have stopped it.
Had a few people or a corp actually done something about this, their names would be almost as well known as Zombies now are. Can you imagine the carebear respect you would get for ending a situation like this? People would be sending you fur samples for a month...
The more I think about it, the more I realise I should have been picking off the spectators while concord were busy...
Maybe next time CCP make the so-called 'biggest threat in the game' no more than an average challenge...
Well played, Zombie. .

Stop repeating that. Those are both 0.4 systems, always have been.
It's simple: you can tank sentry gun fire in 0.4 and below, but you can't tank Concord in 0.5 or above.
But it's true that the correct response from CCP would be to make the Concord fleets uber-powerful, untankable and unkillable, so they don't have to ban anyone. Banning is never a good way to solve problems like this, you just lose innovative players.
Yulai is supposed to one of the safest systems of all, so let's think of a RL scenario:
A bunch or terrorists go to Wall Street, Manhattan and start shooting people randomly. What do you thinkis likely to happen?
1. Only the local police precinct's cops arrive in their normal squad cars, and fail to kill the terrorists, dying one by one. OR 2. The National Guard and the Army arrive in tanks and assault helicopters and blow the terrorists to itty-bitty pieces.
Only in Eve is option "1" currently the correct answer. Needs fixing methinks.

Game news -
Regarding the mass killings in Yulai last night (4th of March)
As a lot of you are aware, a certain corp willingly exploited a fault in the game mechanics and managed to kill over a 100 people in the supposedly secure Yulai system last night. We have decreed that those who were the recipiants of this heinous crime will be fully reimbursed for their loss. If you are one of those who lost your belongings and still havenŠt petitioned us, please do so and we will see to it that your possessions are returned to you. The exploiters have received a ban for their efforts and anyone thinking of following their example should be aware that the same fate awaits them. - The GM Team

Like Drunkenmaster said, everyone was just sitting around doing nothing about it. I had a look too and then went to get my battleship in the hope I could help concord taking out the aggressor, once his sec status would get low enough so concord wouldn't get me. Unfortunately by the time I got back Zombie had left. I am sure if everyone there would have helped out we could have stopped it. There is only so much damage people can tank for (I think )
I don't think Zombie should get banned although some punishment is in order. In itself they showed a flaw in the game, Concord not being powerful enough, but they should have stopped once a GM told them too. Exploit or not, when you're asked by a GM to do whatever you do so, for the benefit of the game. MM Channel "EVE University" www.eve-university.cjb.net (ingame) EVE University commercial |

Now, I didnt see the event, nor was I on at the time it happened.
My sole source of information is from the board but from what I can gather the Zombiez have pointed out a design flaw.
The only reason the zombie ganking player could survive was because he had a number of suportships that were feeding him power (be it shields, cap or quafe it dont matter). If that suport ended in some way he would soon get dested by Concord.
The design flaw is obviously that concord did not attack the support ships (like people have pointed out earlier), if EvE worked in the best possible way then CCP would be able to employ people to fly the concorde ships (or invent a real AI), first thing thise inteligent concorde agents would do is realize the fact that the ships suporting the criminal is just as guilty as the criminal and thus valid targets.
They would then have simply webbed, warpjammed and killed all the involved ships.
Since concorde is run by a script and unable to make such distinctions it is possible to abuse the game mechanics and remain safe as a suport ship.
This would in my mind qualify as an exploit but I will leave wether it is or not to CCP and the GM's.
Lastly now I would like to thank the Zombiez for being stupid enough to abuse this to the extent it has become a hot potato, now the devs will not be able to put it aside and one of two things will happen: 1: concord will be hotted up even more and we will hear the same people who now congratulate zombiez whine about the "uber" concord. or 2: rewrite the code to make suporting a hostile vessel making you yourself hostile.
Again thank you Zombiez for making empire EvE a safer place :)

Personally, I think CCP banning these guys is bull****. Zombie did NOTHING outside of current game mechanics!
Why didn't a second CONCORD group show up and start blasting the Zombie guys that were tanking the Apoc?
Better yet, why not just roleplay it out? Have CONCORD establish a Special Strike Team (GM Pilots) to hunt down those responsible?
But banning them? That's crap. -

I considered going down there and stopping them ... until I realised that the first action I took with no response from concord would be an exploit too.
