Edited by: Khaeldon on 29/11/2007 07:40:45 So i ran the trinity client yesterday and compared it window to window to the old. Ran everything on max with my v.high end machine but it didn't really differ _that_ much from the old. It was _different_ but not especially better.
Doing something wrong here?

Nope, sounds about right. Aside from the new ship / gate / station models and some cool lighting effects, the rest of the game is pretty much the same. I posted some screenies here if you want to verify what you're seeing. These were with all the effects up except for self-shadows which I didn't really like... |

Yes i ran the content updater.
I just thought that the new graphics just were different, not better... exploring the raven's surface i noticed it now uses the same kind of techniques as other modern day games but the texture was still but ugly at close range

I cant believe you think its ugly.. lol. Its on par with X3 for crying out loud.. And this is an mmorpg. Its insane. Maby you should replace your monitor or something, or get glasses

As I have understand it MMORPG do not have the same posibilities when it comes to high-res textures and multi million polys as for example a single player first person shooter. I don't know really why but all MORPGs Ive seen is far behind FPS games in graphics. I guess it is so you can have 200 other ships in your view without dropping your FPS to 0.

I really don't see what peoples problem with these new graphics are they look amazing, especially once the ships are in space where the hdr effects really show up.
I must admit half the screen shots don't look as good as they could but i really think that thats down to people not having hdr turned on when they took them (probably because its not compatable with AA)

Pretty much, from my understanding. It's much easier to make Crysis or similar games with amazing graphics that have either one user, or a multiple of 2 that doesn't exceed 64, than it is to make a MMOG.
MMOGs will always lag behind FPS or other games since they have to be able to show far more on screen than single, or traditional multi-player games. It's one thing to make a game that uses AI NPCs, and another to make one with hundreds, thousands, or higher orders of magnitude actual people controlling them. We're unpredictable, we are.
Plus there's that whole network thing, and servers computing all the info. And latency, and so on.
*Edit to avoid a ban* I pledge my loyalty to our new graphical overlords. It's just you can't compare to single player games. The new stuff looks great.
Please don't hurt me.

They patched the three s's, Ships, Stations, Stargates. Those have improved models / textures. Other then that not much has changed _yet_.
But disabling self shadowing and then saying it doesn't look good is kinda stupid imho. The shadows / bloom / HDR are the things that make trinity so beautiful. _______

...and ccp has accounted for the likes of you, enjoy classic mode. Eve remains an amazing game, new graphics or not. I however look forward to seeing everything Ive played with on sisi make its way over. Thank you ccp, for not letting eve fade slowly into the dark like UO (no offense to the hardcore UO players, keep on keepin on)

you know what happened?
I spent all of last night ****ing around on the test server (o/ to everyone who was in Korama) and having fun playing around with ship setups. Before going to bed, I logged back in to TQ to swap a skill over. I logged in in space flying my Cheetah.
My first response:
"Oh sacred feth, that thing is ugly-looking now...."
I swear, some of you people must be blind.... especially Khaeldon - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

I think you're right here. It's like when CDs first appeared. I bought three or four, listened to them and all I thought was. "Oh. Gee. At least I don't have to turn them over any longer".
Then I played one of my records and found myself thinking "If I hurry I can get back to the shops before they close and pass the dustbin on my way".
