I found it particularly ironic that they wanted to charge her with inciting religious hatred, when they themselves are inciting religious based hatred for punishing her over the naming of a stuffed animal. Know who really needs to get whipped? The teddy bear. That son of a b**** is the one insulting Muhammad.

The best way I heard it put is that some people believe in something so much that they forget their common humanity.
That and some people just love to have power over others.

Realy my mind boggles that such a system exists that by naming an innanimate object after a small child who was in turn named after a prophet that forged the bloody (in both senses) Ottaman Empire, a teacher helping people is sentanced to jailtime and whipping.

I have a little stuffed devil nicknamed Jesus, am I a bad person? maybe maybe not but hell I aint going to get 40 lashs over it. its also amazing that if a Muslim living in the 1st world decided they would have a little stuffed devil and call it jesus nobody would give a dam, what a world we live in.

This story is just another appalling example of how religion will eventually be the downfall of the human race. I'm sure of it. And that goes for far more than just Islam.

A good friend of mine is a son of one of the Iranian premiers. He refused to do mandatory military service and made some rather rude comments about Allah.
Despite his father's position, he was jailed, tortured and was scheduled to be shot for Heresy. Thankfully, Amnesty International got him out before that could happen, but it did impress on me how seriously they take their religion over there.
I'm glad I live in Canada. No matter how ridiculous people act here sometimes,it could be much much worse.

Muslims are making fools of themselves, and their religion the more they pull this kind of crap.
Do they realize how much the rest of the world will resent them the more they pull this crap?
Honestly, who takes these people seriously? You certainly can't if you have any common sense at all. Do all the followers of Islam have ZERO common sense?
What do non-Muslim followers of Islam think of this? People in The USA, UK & other countries think?

To be perfectly honest, the way a 'christian' views 'islam' is the way 'I' view 'all religions'.
That is, asinine.

When you're the biggest religion in the world and one of the fastest growing you really dont care what the rest of the world thinks. Especially when your moderates (which make up the majority of the religion) like to keep to themselves. There are plenty of moderates who oppose this, but its rare for them to speak out...often in fear.
When you have followers willing to make vests out of plastic explosives and suicide themselves in a dance lounge full of teenagers the world takes you seriously. Especially when the world news media creams their pants over these stories with eye catching photos.
When everyone but their own nation is pre-occupied with pushing "multi-culturalism" on themselves so strongly despite the harm it does they realize the resentment will be fleeting and forgiven as a "cultural difference".
And finally, when you understand and live by the following axiom as they do you realize how easy it is to get away with murder:
Extremists go all the way. Moderates just tend to go away....
But back to the story. The kids named the bear, not the teacher and the name wasn't meant to be a religious thing. Mohammad is the most commonly used name in the world. This whole thing was to take eyes and pressure off of Darfur or some other domestic issue.

The least some of you could do is discuss and comment on this contextually. Sudan is a third world nation with outmoded Islamic beliefs. Why tar all Islamic nations and Muslims with the one brush? Is the Reborn Fundamentalist Christiniaty of the US representative of all of Christianity? I think not. Of course the action of jailing this teacher over calling a teddybear Mohammed is backward, but that is Sudan.
