If I was the driver of that car, I would have stopped my car, got out with my phone, took pictures and called the Police. I use to ride a Motorcycle and I've been cut off lot's of times by all kinds of vehicles. Even had a few accidents due to it. I've also been helped quite a few times as well. On my very first long distance road trip I was going to another state on my cruiser to visit my brother. It was right around dusk/sunset and up ahead of me on the Highway were 3 Semi Trucks, 2 in the slow lane and 1 in the fast lane. Ahead of them I could see a really large Dust/Sand Storm blowing across the Highway. It was very thick, reminded me of something you'd see in the Mummy movies, IE, a wall of sand. I got up close behind the truck in the fast lane who was slowly passing the other 2 trucks. When he got up even with the front truck in the slow lane, I clicked on my blinker to let the truckers know I wanted to get in the pocket between the 2 trucks in the slow lane. The pocket was about 12 to 15 feet, just the perfect size for me and my bike. After a while the last truck in the slow lane flashed his lights and I moved into the pocket. Then the truck in the fast lane slowed down and closed the door, blocking the opening to the pocket. The truckers knew I wanted shelter from the storm. Within minutes we were in the raging Sand Storm. In the pocket there was very little sand, plus it was rather warm. We all kept the same pace, about 55 mph. 15 to 20 minutes later we passed through the storm and back into clear air. I signaled my blinker and within a couple of minutes the truck in the fast lane slowed down and opened the door to the pocket for me. When the truck behind me flashed his lights again, I moved out of the pocket and back into the fast lane. I waved / saluted them, they honked their horns, I beeped my horn and away I went down the Highway. I know the truckers were all talking on the CB's, they knew exactly what I wanted and helped me achieve it. On the return trip I forgot to top off my gas tank before a 100 mile stretch of Highway with no off ramps or services available. Needless to say I ran out of gas towards the end of that stretch. I could see the lights of the service station way down the Highway ahead of me. It was an optical illusion. The Highway actually was an uphill grade which looked like it was going down. There I was pushing my bike on the side of the road in the middle of the night, stripped down out of my leathers due to sweating my balls off. Just Jeans and T-shirt.. There was a full moon shinning down on me and the night wind was cold, especially when the truckers would pass by me. Lot's of truckers passed by me, their back-draft's almost knocking me down each time.. I had my blinkers flashing and head/tail lights on. It was easy to see a Motorcycle was broken down on the side of the road. Still the trucks passed me by. They could have easily stopped and got help for me via their CB radios. I pushed my bike for almost an hour before someone stopped. It wasn't a truck, it was a small little economy car. They had a gas can with a gallon of gas in their trunk just in case of emergency for traveling that 100 mile stretch of road. I didn't need very much, just a few ounces to wet the carbs and I was good to go. They waited for me to suit up and then followed me down to the service station just to make sure I was OK. I will never forget that trip. One thing I do know, you can never tell who will offer assistance when needed. Life is way too stressful to be an asshat when driving on the road. DMC
Had a very cool thing happen when I was on a motorcycle trip several years ago. Was returning after big shindig in Iowa and got caught in a hailstorm. Freeway was very open except for a few scattered overpasses and it took me a bit to get to one for shelter. Drenched and pelted with hail, I pulled under the overpass, shut down the bike and waited for the storm to pass. Also under the overpass was a minivan with a family waiting out the storm. They invited me into the van to warm up and offered me some snacks. Had a very pleasant conversation until the storm passed and I thanked them for their hospitality and took off down the road.
There are some very cool people out there. Red Fed Grunt.-á Co-Host of the High Drag Podcast. http://highdrag.wordpress.com/ UNBAN SAEDE!-á ALICE SAKI FOR OOPE MODERATOR!-á Make it so! |

Morning Alice.
DMC, ive been in a similar situation regarding good samaritans. Always expect the unexpected when it comes from unexpected help.
Though i ere on the side of caution when it comes to fuel. I like a nice full tank than running on vapours. Being stuck on the M4 in the UK at 2am pushing a bike to a service station sucked so much. Wasnt hot but after the 8-9 miles i was dripping with sweat. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara
