Tiger, F. Bacon is boring... I was forced to read him in university, and its worse than a sleeping pill. Not to mention the side effects... arrogance, lofty ideals, snobbish quotes even... much rather read some Hemingway or R. Davies, even M. Atwood... polysci is tedious.

R. Heinlein ftw! Finally found "Friday" at my local used book spot this morning... wow! The first few chapters are fantastic, cant wait till later when everyone is fed and I can get back to it!

Well as for F Bacon.......he might be all that in your mind, he did emphasize how knowledge is power...

And it is actually normal to have this cycle of thesis, antithesis and synthesis and in my opinion not bound to just one guy (Hegel).

I wasnt being nice about it I guess, even if I think hes boring as drying paint, its undeniable that Bacon did make some major contributions. Like any of the greats, he should be read and probably quoted from time to time. Logic is fun, if not funny looking, symbolic or otherwise.

It disturbes me that logic is being frownd upon these days...

I think its too "hard" for what they are churning out of the schools now... whatever it is that passes as education now is not able to even be a solid foundation for kids to build on, and lets face it... Logic (symbolic or otherwise), is not easily grasped without a broad education beneath it.
