I have a GeForce 7950 GX2 gfx card and when I run EVE after the patch has been deployed it never let me download the new shiny graphics. Now, if 7950 GX2 supports both DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0, why can't I use the new graphics engine?

Seems to lock up randomly. Screen just goes black, hard drive activity goes through the roof, and it just sits there. I'm just sitting in station and it does this.
I have yet to get more than 5 minutes game time in before it tanks. I'm scared to leave the station...
Going to try a re-install, but it's a 5 hour download....

So far it is pretty cool graphics wise.....dont care for the new overview, or the dragging windows by just the little bar.....but really hate the new animations on the ice miner lasers, the old ones are hella better, nice and fat....the new ones are hella weak looking......will keep looking for more bad changes |

Moved from locked post (sorry) Thanks CCP! - For providing fast download servers! Theres nothing worse than getting bandwidth throttled to around 120KBps.
I managed to download the new shiny client in under 5 mins, a resonable download time! Thank you again!

First thought: very underwhelming.
* The textures are blocky and pixelated (the thrusters on the Abaddon, for example). * My AA and AF isn't being applied, despite the fact they are enabled in the drivers - no piece of software has the right to mess with - or worse, ignore - system settings, it's very bad engineering. I've read above that there's a third party alternative to sort this - I hope you fix it to be in-game, soon. * Performance is a joke. I've one from 120+ FPS in classic to 60 if I'm lucky in space, and down to something god-awful like 20 or 30 in station. Turning off shadows helped, but there's no excuse for it to be this way. I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow to see if it's not some compatibility issues, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't believe that it's the system settings though, as Oblivion and Bioshock (both HDR, Bloom, shadows et al games) run at around 60 FPS if not more at the same resolution, and they are vastly more complicated that Eve in terms of vectors. I doubt the new models even come close to the poly-count of those two games, given the poor quality of textures.
The good things:
* Drone changes. It took you 4 years, which is ridiculous, but it's here now. * Altering overview. At bloody last. * Moving the targets - I am very very glad about this, however I see the option to stack them in rows of x has been removed since Sisi. This needs to be brought back, if only because we can't move everything on the interface yet. * Uniformity of ships. The Rohk is now the same shade as the other Tech 1 Caldari ships. This is a good thing. I've yet to see other races than Amarr and Caldari.
Still to be done:
* Let us move all the UI components. I'm sick of having to work everything around an over-sized console in the centre of my screen! And as for the system information and autopilot information - eugh, it gets in the way. It's very difficult to work around those two obstacles for the non-flight windows, especially trying to manage multiple chat windows. I know there are a few people who would like to be able to have 5 or 6 groups of chat windows all along the bottom to better communicate when there are battles. * Controls for drone groups. Yes, thank you, I can now move drones together, but only all five. We've been asking to be able to order different groups of drones to do different things though. It's especially important if you're trying to work in more versatility of drones instead of sheer firepower.
All in all, a decent if vastly overdue functionality expansion, a moderate content expansion, and a (thus far) dreadful graphics expansion.
All IMO, of course, and from my own experience. But it sounds like the majority of the things I've listed above aren't unique to me.
----------------------------- "Oh, we're sorry, you had the 'NakedAmarrChicks' bit flagged in your account somehow." "Wait, why was there even a flag for that to begin with?" "..." |

My game keeps locking up... no black screen but I'm picture framing. I can't move or anything and I'm not at the best place in the world to test stuff at... |

Any way to move the "Star Map/System Map/Close" window away from sitting above the Selected items? I want selected items at the top of the screen but it's moved down every time I open map and doesn't move back up when I close it. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Edited by: Sage Fire on 06/12/2007 01:29:37 This is an incredible start of a new expansion, at least for me. There is a friend of mine whose client keeps crashing when trying the new Trinity graphics. (His card, drivers, and OS should be able to support it.) But as for me, I had absolutely no problems patching, downloading the premium content (800 KB/Sec, wow!), and playing the game.
I've looked at quite a number of ships. I personally like the color schemes of them. Some of them make the ships look downright scary, which is good since I'm into combat.
Now, I personally thought I would barely be able to run the new Trinity graphics. My machine is well over 3 years old but it was built with some good parts. Sure, I do get a decrease in performance, but it isn't as bad as I thought. Most of the time the FPS is the same as Eve Classic. Ran a couple of test level 4 missions, traveled some, looked around...just wow. I don't have words for it. I thought I was going to switch back to Eve Classic for the sake of staying alive in terms of performance. But I'm not sure if I'll ever go back. Ever.
(Except for super big fleet battles.)
Thank you CCP. Thank you. |

Even though I've already replied, I can't get over how cool everything looks lol. It's like looking at a whole new game. I love it. I could whine about the stuff I'm not a big fan of, but that's pointless, so I'll just keep staring at all the new graphics. Also, I love that my drones now show up next to whatever locked target they're attacking. The movable overview is a bit weird, but I guess I'll get used to it.

1st thing congrats on the new patch update
but from wht i gather from about 45 of my friends and including me we can not see the new graphics even tho it gave me and my friend Fedor E the choice to download it. From what i hear and read people do not want to be treated like 2nd class players not being able to see and run the graphics. Not all of us have the choice to just go out and buy a new graphics card just to run a game that was fine to begin with.

I actually really like the new gfx, being a gallente pilot and blue being my fav colour oooh lovely ;) I guess a lot of other people dont realise this is one of the first majour steps to rev 3 and are acting as if this is an end product but still some really good improvements imo i for one like it, i havent come across any bugs yet but thats not to say there is some, GJ CCP on having one of the biggest engine updates in eve and it went smoothly so far.

very very very well done, the new gfx are incredible, and the New UI improvements are Excellent, one of the Best Patches Yet
I love it! Your SIG is to big please reduce it to fit these limits
The size limits for signature graphics are as follows: Maximum height: 120 pixels Maximum width: 400 pixels Maximum file size: 24,000 bytes

Although the cedega update shows the "unsupported" patch....(thanks for the heads upon that Linghorm)...the update was smooth and the client is running. Initial testing shows 15-20% better fps than with the old client.
Two thumbs up!

right well... first glance in station, i think it looks dreadful, i don't really like any of the new ship models, or at best fail to see some big improvement - not a big problem however, i could have lived with new ship designs.
main problem: targeting, my targets are in the middle of the screen and i seem to have no way to move them to anywhere useful. now considering this is exactly what i experienced on test server only now at least there is some consolation that my targets aren't moving around my screen randomly (sorry half way through writing this they started moving around my screen again)... yea not a fan of not knowing where to look to see what im shooting at. which is a shame because i was really looking forward to being able to move my overview (and other stuff in that column) to somewhere useful
and the next problem: this game is killing my pc... my mouse appears once every second or so to give me a general idea where its headed... not great (my pc is far up and beyond the minimum system requirements for people who might like a cheap dig). only thing thats a bit behind the times is the graphics card so i guess ill see what eve looks like after i get a new graphics card in a few weeks though i must say i probably wont ever look at the trinity graphics again until i hear something amazing has happened to it.
Everybody please ignore lyria skydancer, she is a character who does nothing but troll about how amarr sucks and is not worth anybodies time

Originally by: Michael Shadowstorm Not specifically patch related, rather related to the downloads.. Why is it that the premium thing is "avaivable as a Torrent" but instead of a regular .torrent file we all love so much it has to download some DNA download manager that gives no options as to where I want the patch downloaded, also there's no way of limiting the download speed so that the other 3 computers in my household could still use the internet..
If I may ask, next time release it as a regular torrent file :) I want to use my dear friend Azureus to download any bigger stuff..
Some time ago when a popular mmorpg first came out the company that made it distributed updates through torrents but would not use the standard torrent clients. Early on during beta the distribution was so bad the players found a way to use a publicly offered bit torrent client but the next patch this was blocked from happening. Players went into great detail on how to improve on this company's client and gave good reasons why but to no avail and patches were always painful in that respect. At least while I hung around. I can only guess private companies have their reasons for requiring their customers to use their torrent client which offers no bandwidth controls.

Just want to say it's wonderful graphics, simply amazing! Congrats CCP!!
I hope there is a configuration for reducing lag/ hardware slowdown in fleet battles that allows me to keep the premium graphic running and not having have to relog to the rgeular content.
