The patch notes don't mention anything about fixing jumpbridges for alliance-wide use.
Can we at least get a statement, or even some sort of hint that this problem is at least known and possibly being looked at?
Thanks, keep up the good work.

This jump bridge fiasco has crippled my ability to ferry stuff to my corp as I can't get into our station systems. I would think this would be more important to fix than a lot of the stuff I saw. www.eve-pirate.com author and goat molestor.

Why do players insist on having devs hold their hands and stroke their hair when something breaks? Act your age and deal with what you're dealt. As long as someones told the devs there is an issue, what is nagging them going to do but prolong the fix?

I don't see how this qualifies as "holding hands" There's been issues with these damn things since they were put in game, and the constant and ever-present attitude from CCP has been "well, we don't know why it doesn't work"
I have to post with an alt since it's been ordered not to flag my alliance as having these problems (although I very sure we're not the only ones)
It's amazing, the petitions have been very thorough and detailed, and after months (yes, months) of having them broken after DT the solution we get? Move them to another system. Then when they broke in that system, it was back and forth "dunno, we'll get back to you" and all of this was before the big fiasco Trinity. Now? Don't give a ****, since fixing things is taking a backseat once again to adding new things, in turn breaking more things.
But since this is "hand holding" and turning into a e-peen contest on who signed up for Eve first, all this is for **** anyway

Your own selfish need to have your issues fixed blinds you to the overall picture. EVE is not going to explode because jumpbridges aren't working, nor is it going to explode because whatever else deep-0.0 alliances and corps feel is broken. Notice how fast they picked up on the boot.ini problem? CCP is not full of ******s, your issue is very low on the overall stack-o-**** they need to debug.
If you can't handle the logistics of keeping your POS or whatever up and running without bridges, than you shouldn't be owning POS's.

Derovius, I'll give the JB issue a 7/10 of importance. Now why is that? This is all logistics: Carriers, even though for over a year we were able to use them as logistics support, are no longer viable for that role. Rorquals cannot move industy-related gear just the same as Carriers can no longer. Jump Freighters are still weeks and multi-billions of ISK away.
That leaves us three steps backwards in the development of long-range logistics. Even though this is a "sandbox" game and yet we're being dictated how exactly to use certain ships (sorry, it's still a sore point the whole carrier bull) we were supposed to be further ahead in projecting power with the improvements we've had/have to deep space logistics.
So yes, even though me, you, and many others remember the good ol days of hauling before rigs and Freighters and Jump Bridges, we should be working smarter, not harder, and the game should reflect that. When you break something along the lines of the JBs it's not about whining that life is no longer easy! It's ignoring the fact we have some serious logistics issues that are being glossed over and we've collectively stepped back a few years in terms of getting things from point A to point Z.
It's not game-ending but by Crom it's still important.

Wait, so you dont think theres anything wrong with this, eh?
Let's See, CCP introduces a POS module that eases 0.0 logistics. CCP accidentally breaks these modules (for which a serious dependence was created by their implementation) and now you're telling us that we should just sit on our hands and not ask for it to be fixed?
Get over yourself, get off your high horse, and knock the chip off your shoulder b/c you have no idea what you're on about.

Imagine that alliance X has a large number of POSes that will run out of fuel over the coming week. Trinity removed the ability to resupply these via carriers. Trinity broke the ability to resupply via quick jumpbridge/freighter convoys. Trinity introduced jump freighters which are still months from initial deployment. Now alliance X directors are wondering what the expected timeframe on jumpbridge fixes are, so they know if alternative fueling arrangements need to be made to compensate for Trinity's sweeping changes.
In what way is that an unreasonable request?

We have, Exp, and this is the order that it has happened:
Shortly after anchoring our first JB, it goes offline after downtime. Over the period of a week, with help from a couple GMs, we repeatedly have it "fixed". Then, it starts going non-linked at random times. A GM destroys the JB, and places a new one. The problem continues off and on for a few more weeks. Then, it breaks a final time and yet another GM says we should place the JB in a new solar system altogether. We were told that there was a "ghost" image of the first JB that a GM destroyed that was causing the issues. We had, before moving the JB, placed it at different POSs in the same original system and it still would break, usually after downtime. We moved the JB to the next door system and yet again, it breaks down. All told, we have spent literally days worth of time just on this network, onlining and offlining and linking and unlinking. And this was all before the Trinity patch. What the main problem seems to be is that there is no cross-communication from in-game GMs with you guys on the Dev side. Do any of our petitions and resultant answers/"fixes" get passed on to you guys? Can I, working with the other guys in my alliance who have spent all this time strewn across multiple timezones, provide all the details and communiques and all that we've done on our end and find a resolution to this other than "move it to another POS and try again" or "move it to a new system and try that"?
I can compile as much as I can into a bugreport but please understand that at this point, Trinity issues notwithstanding, we have exausted almost endless hours of work both writing, chatting, and trying the many fixes your GMs have advised us to do so if I'm a bit jaded about a resolution please just bear with me on that :( It's just been a long time...

Please do, I'm all for having these issues fixed (which is why I'm reading the forums on a Saturday evening gathering information). We have a task force currently working on POS issues; it includes GMs and Devs, so there is a central place to channel all these reports.

I am curious as to wether it is the JumpBridge (The CORP only bug) or a problem with the starbase forcefield password. Which would explain why it is corp only. But not forgetting to include a mix of other JumpBridge bugs in the mix.
I hardly read the forums, If I saw tons of feedback on the JB related bugs, im sure atleast one staff member has...

I believe the concern is that CCP added a logistical game mechanic to the equation and so 0.0 pilots incorporated it. Well then they changed a logistical game mechanic with carriers logistics capabilities and what happens is it has amplified the issue of no jump bridges 10 fold. ____________________________ One Thead to rule them all - Boot.ini pre-patch thread

Nice job CCP on Nerfinity, screw 0.0 logistics with carrier/rorqual nerf, fubar the jump bridges, then claim no knowledge of the problem.
Give it another week and it'll be a feature.
BTW: Fix Claw lock range, Nerf Poly/ODJ, Boost Active Shield Tanking, Boost Target Painters, and create a real Minmatar offensive EWAR system like a MWD disruptor.

OMG, OMG. I still remember the lats time a GM said something similar: The infamous Drone Regions Ore problem... (8 months for the Devs to realize the community was right, and the ore was not respawning... Which was obvious from the very first week)
Will it happen again?
Luckily, this is affecting everyone, and not just a localized faction/alliance/coalition... So it will get checked, I`m sure.

Some research before posting would have paid off. If this was not such a big deal to so many people he might have come thru it a little cleaner.
Problem is that it is obvious that one guy does not know what the other is doing in the development team.

Actually they really don¦t. I was told by a GM that GameMasters in eve have no way to escalate information about bugs/design flaws to the devs. Said GM asked me to post in the game development forum instead. That was long before Trinity and the chaos it brought. Go figure.

Please do, I'm all for having these issues fixed (which is why I'm reading the forums on a Saturday evening gathering information). We have a task force currently working on POS issues; it includes GMs and Devs, so there is a central place to channel all these reports.
The fact that this defect isn't near the top of your priority list is an indication that there is a very serious breakdown somewhere in your current bug process.
In addition to actually resolving the Jump Bridge problem itself, it would probably be good to take a second look at the process you have in place for dealing with game-breaking problems like these. Everyone in 0.0 who has jump bridges has been screaming about this problem since the moment the servers came up with Trinity. It isn't reassuring to learn that this is the first you're hearing of it, 10 days after the patch. |

Doesn't it occur to you that JBs not working warrants a ban or at least a limitation of POS warfare? People build their entire defense network based upon the Jump Bridge capability. Now it's screwed and yet you happily allow their sovereign regions to be shot to hell.

Not that I want to appologize for CCP here but lets look at it this way.
Lead Dev reads the forums on Saturday night. See a problem, that might not be high on his personal radar. Then responds to it. Just because he is not personally aware of the problem doesn't mean CCP is not working on it. The problem is just outside of his scope of personal knowledge. He's not at the office. He can't call out to Ulf, and say "Ulf, do we have a problem with Jumpbridges?" He doesn't probably have the ability to check on bug reports, because that would require local access to the internal CCP network. He may or may not have VPN access to. So what does he do? He posts to the forum asking if a bug report had been filed. when he sees that it has he asks that they be attached to a defect #, that he probably pulled from his work e-mail.
Then again, I could be wrong, and welp...

Jesus, what the hell i know this is your first game and all but the dev's statement above is an absolute lie and you guys know its a lie. You knew all along but the pressure finally built up and 'welp' guess you finally have to do something when every 0.0 alliance in the game with multiple corps not being able to use jump bridges properly since Trinity suddenly brought it to your attention recently? Bull****, at least be honest with us, its not hard. You know like 'Yes, we know there is currently an issue with Jump Bridges we are working on it' or something to that effect. But saying out right WE HAD NO IDEA until recently? What the christ? This has to be a troll right? Yep, has to be, theres no other way to explain it.

This issue had not reached the software development team at the time I read about the issue on the forums (a day after the defect was created). I re-assigned the defect to the software development team, we re-produced the problem and fixed it, I increased the defect's priority to High/Critical, sent in a request to include the fix in Trinity 1.0.1, and let's see what happens on Monday if we are able to get the fix in. Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated.
Now for some more positive criticism, would it be possible for CCP to conduct a review of the way bug tracking is handled? How is it possible to have a known issue list produced by CCP include a specific, very easy to reproduce and very obvious bug for anybody in a 0.0 alliance and still we are told "This issue had not reached the software development team at the time I read about the issue on the forums" i.e. yesterday.
How many more of these very obvious, very easy to reproduce and painful bugs "have not reached the software development team" despite being acknowledged as existing? And what happened to the claim that "CCP devs HAVE to play the game to see the impact of changes"? Is nobody in the dev team member of a 0.0 alliance with jump bridges?
Even without counting "Miscellaneous" items, the known issues list has 100+ items in it. Similar to your dev blog "about the boot.ini issue", could you please provide an update explaining what CCP is doing about these issues (if anything)? Clearly today there is a complete disconnect within CCP, i.e. somebody, somewhere is keeping that known issues list updated but the dev team is not aware of it.
Now, there's nothing we can do on your side of things apart from asking questions and hoping something will be done. On the other hand, there's a community of 40k active players who want that game to get better: take advantage of it and use it! Tell us what you need from the community to make the bug finding/testing/reporting process easier/faster/more streamlined. Communicate, do something to engage with us.

Wait. There haven't been any working bridges for anyone outside the owning corps since dec 6th, it takes until the 15th before anyone notices, despite dozens if not hundreds of petitions, thousands of posts and dozens of threads. Mentions on it in all the POS warfare prohibited threads etc etc etc... And no one knew about it ? Where do these GM's work ? On a different continent to the developers ? None ever get the inkling to ask a dev what the status is on fixing an issue they have seen petition after petiton about ? Who looks at the known issues list if not the people that are supposed to fix them?
Why has it taken 9 days to discover it then only 1 day to fix ? ... eek! ! ! ! ! ! !
I don't think you will have to worry about lack of bug reports, forum threads or petitions about such matters again. No matter how long they appear on the known issues list I will be sure to petition, bug report and start a thread about them 3 times a day until they are fixed. You have no idea how much this issue has hurt some people. I appreciate sometimes things take time to fix, but taking so long for the people fixing them to discover despite the huge general awareness of the issue....

The reason this kind of slipped under the radar internally is that after the release of Trinity then starbases did not start up properly, which caused some pretty weird problems with POS and jump bridges in general. This issue was probably assumed to be a part of that overall problem that was fixed last Monday but is in fact a different issue.

You mention that the issue "was probably assumed to be part of the overall problem". In other words, nobody had the time/energy/willpower to actually check if the update on Monday fixed this particular bug. I believe you should not have to assume anything about bugs in your software.
In keeping with unwanted but nonetheless offered suggestions: - upgrade your bug tracking software. it seems somewhat lacking at the moment. Plenty of good ones out there - put somebody at CCP officially in charge of tracking bugs. Somebody keeping updated the list of bugs, following-up on them, making sure the bug fixes did work. i.e. if a bug is assumed to have been resolved, contact the people who bug reported it, contact the people who filled a petition about it and ask them if indeed this specific bug has been resolved by the latest patch. It is a low-skilled and time intensive job. It doesn't have to be a highly ranked or even well paid person, just get an intern (or a temp or whatever) to do the grunt work but with 100+ acknowledged issues currently outstanding SOMETHING needs to be done. Fast.

Thank you CCP Explorer.
You have to understand people, anyone who works at any type of desk job were you have to rely on other people for information, things will get lost. I work at a job building "high reliability" equipment. Even thou I am certainly not up on the food chain, I often hear times were very important information does not make it to the higher ups do to mis-communications and assumptions (assuming things is very bad in the corporate world).
What most likely happened was with the boot.ini and pos not working, the jump bridge bug did not receive high enough priority and got lost in the other things that were put on the back burner.
As for CCP Explorer said earlier, he was in on a Saturday reading the forums. Look at his title "Software Director". That means that it's not his job to go surfing and filter threw all the crap that gets put on the eve-o forums every day.
Thou I believe we can all agree, the bug reporting system needs to be streamlined better, you can not call him every rude remark in the book just because this is the first he has heard of this problem while other more important issues were being addressed.
CCP Explorer, I would like to apologize on behalf of the EVE-O community for any type of rude comments out of frustration and lack forward thinking. I know I myself have not always been the kindest to thous that work with you (remembering of the "carrier change ideas"). We appreciate you taking the steps needed to help satisfy we who are customers and we very much think your for your patients with us. For I'm sure you have been very VERY patient with us.

Bug reports were filed, petitions were filed, threads were created. Aside from fly to Iceland and knock on their door there wasn't anything else the community could have done without being more 'extreme' in their actions.

Let's look at the major things that have been fixed since the deployment of Trinity:
boot.ini problems with POS working at all jump bridges not working
Pretty much in that order. boot.ini was preventing people's computers from starting at all. That would be an EXTREMELY CRITICAL bug, which is why it was fixed in the middle of the morning there. POS not working at all is a critical bug since it affects anyone with a POS at all, which qualifies as a bit more important than the jump bridges not working, which only affects the POS with jump bridges. the jump bridges, while important, just were not as critical as several other problems the patch introduced because it was pushed out too soon.
CCP Explorer is the software director, it's an important position, but he can't know about EVERY glitch and issue that came in with the latest patch. Doubly so with the storm over the first two issues. His reaction and handling of the issue was commendable. Good job, man. you might want to read the known issues page a bit more often though. --- "Come back with your shield, or on it."

I filed my first petition on 2 of my jumpbridge links on October 27th due to the DT link bug, the GMS destroying them and them being bugged for over a month before that. I was told over and over in 3 responses that it would be fixed in Trinity. Now they still continue to go offline daily at DT and we have the new "Feature" of the rest of the alliance not being able to use them.
I cant believe this issue has not been seen by CCP as I know the issue has been going on since September. I expect a real good fix this week. Fluf CEO Shiva Morsus Mihi

I think the best solution would be for the GMs to escalate any petitions into Bug Reports when it turns out it's not something they can fix.

I'm really glad this issue is being escalated. Currently it is the second most troublesome post-Trinity issue our alliance has (a dramatic increase in the number of random game crashes is the first).

So do we need to file a bug report about heavy dictors bubbling inside POS shields?

We've heard about this issue, but please file a detailed bug report (including locations, exact dates/times and detailed circumstances) so we have more information to investigate.

Incidentally, does this also mean that characters outside the alliance who possess high standings as well as the starbase password can use the bridges too? They did work this way before, and were used in this manner.

Yes. The release notes have been updated to "An issue with jump bridges not working for non-corporation members has been identified and resolved." To use a jump bridge you must have the password and must not be on the "shot on sight" list. Corp members automatically qualify but others players that have the password and have sufficient standings can also use the bridge.

Thanks much. In the future, we'll try to bring light to these sort of issues through the forum and bug reporting with more persistence.

Some of you need to get a grip. Honestly, I doubt some of you know how good you have it. Ive just come from another large multiplayer sim where bugs have been ignored for 6+ years! When the devs get annoyed with hearing about it, they refuse to enter the entire forum. Not just the thread but the entire forum! They do it for weeks at a time until fanbois start posting tributes and then you get one enter who deflects any questions with regards to the problems and answers nothing.
Seriously. I have only been here in Eve for a relatively short time and all I see is the complete opposite of the above from CCP. You guys have it good. I can show you the darkside. It isnt pretty.
