In history I learned that Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party. An archaic term for donkey is ass Sniggardly is not a word, but Niggardly is. It is defined as: Grudging or petty in giving or spending. Saddam Hussein is the former dictator of Iraq. How is it you guys have issues with the filter and I don't? Obviously the filter will be corrected and updated when they update the forum software. It would be nice, however, to have an on/off toggle in our personal forum settings, with on as the default. ------------------------------------------ How much would it cost to roll back to RevII CCP?

They will never recover because they saw the letters f, u, c and k in a specific order. Clearly these kids will have perminant pychological disorders from reading the names of past political parties or dictators that have had a defined effect on the world. We can't ever mention them, think of the children. Well I'm not a child and I don't care if a kid accidentally winds up here because if they're smart enough to play EVE they're smart enough to find **** on the net or read Maddox (google it if you don't know). You won't find too many players that much younger then me. And I assure you in a modern high school you have to be doing something wrong to not know these words exist. If you already know these words exist, what harm can come of reading them more? We teenagers are not as impressionable as a lot of people give us credit for.

For the record, the reason certain historical figures were originally added to the list was that the forum has a strict no-politics ban which certain people were flouting regularly in posts concerning those figures. I can see why they added them to the filter but it would have been better done as a short term measure and then removed.

An example is one I saw in WoW (yes this is on topic before I get flamed). One of the races had a joke that went a little like this: "I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night, I kill two dwarves in the afternoon and everything alright, I kill two dwarves in times of peace and two in time of war, I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more." Now this was a good laugh and arguably one of the best little ditty's in the game. However... it was removed... why? Someone noticed that the original version of this song, that is quite old went. "I smoke two spliffs in the morning..." etc. I dont know the finer details... only that all it took was what I said above... "one stupidly over-protective parent and a lawyer." --- Your mother was a hamster, and your afterburners smell of elderberries!

Those words don't exist in the English language, not even as Slang. As you noted, there IS a word "snigger", and you provided a very nice definition, thank you. Of course, there is also the word "Niggardly" which I defined in my previous post up at the top of page 2 of this thread. That particular word was involved in a huge uproar here in the States within the last 2 years due to someone using it in a school function (used it in it's appropriate context and meaning as well). The local "African American" populace got wind of it's use via people that were there, and a huge national uproar was started. I can only assume that was due to the fact that it sounds very much like the "N-Word" which many "people of color" rightly find highly offensive. Ultimately though, the people that got upset ended up humiliated when the real meaning of the word was blasted all over national television and they were made to look like ignorant rubes. The scandal died down almost as quickly as it started. And I think that's the real lesson about censorship; When we begin to prevent the use of some words simply due to the fact that some people might be offended by them, it leads to a "loss of language" where both the meaning of words, and general literacy gets lost in the desire to not offend. Back in beta, I heard that there were issues with getting the game approved because creating and smuggling illegal drugs (boosters) would be part of gameplay. I suspect that the reference to Gallente being of French origin was because at the time France held the head spot in the EU (I'm American, so I'm not sure-- is it the President of the EU? Prime Minister? Chief Operating Officer?) and this was meant to appease the French ego and help Eve through what I understand was a rocky approval track. Because of the illegal drug issue, I have thought that that word filter was specifically to impress how strongly CCP stood against actual drug smuggling activities. On the other hand, maybe they just bought the word filter's definition bank from some other site, and slapped it in and haven't devoted resources to updating it. Most of us are adults that should not require to be moderated by such a system. For those who cannot handle that responsibility themselves, those that read anything offensive can simply be adult enough to ignore it. If they absolutely feel offended they report the poster, not something that would generate towers of work for the forum moderators. Children are to be moderated by their parents, its not CCP's responsibility. If a flawed system would appoint that responsibility to CCP avoiding it in this manner is not the way to go.

Note that I'm not disputing whether burning yourself with coffee and getting a fortune in damages is over the top. But it's one of those stories that gets better every time it's told. I suffered burns over most of my legs from cocoa as a child. It was knocked over by someone else and all. Nobody got sued.
