umm nerf nerfing? I like the idea of a boost patch and I hope apart from minor things there is no major changes in '08

Bad Bad Bad idea, all nerfing insurance will do is making people play it more safe, and not PvP nearly as much. The blob will be even more common and lots of people will move directly to high-sec. for security.
I vote no!

Can we move beyond the OP's suggestion? He's been flamed enough.
My most-wanted nerf of 2008: Ban the words Risk and Reward from the forums and game.

Nah, those words have an actual application. It's the words "adapt or die", when used with no other content that need to be banned.
As for the insurance suggestion: It's horrible. Removing insurance would just make big-ship PvP (BSes, Capitals) for personal multibillionaires only. They're the ones who dont bother to insure their ships anyway so don't give a monkies. Insurance is for those who rely on ****ty incomes like missions and npcing, to ease the blow of losing a bigger ship. It's needed.

most wanted nerf:
nerf forum whiners influence
most wanted buff:
buf racial strenghts & differences so crosstraining is more important if you want to be versatile (by switching to different race's ships).
make races as different as in starcraft, not as in age of empires...

ideally an ingenious ban on alts. yes the game can lag absurdly and it has annoying bugs and that you can't change the warpsound/jump volume independantly makes me run the game with no sound etc....but alts just are this self perpetuating crapfest, you meta and gain an advantage or you dont and are at a 'disadvantage' so its quickly no longer meta but 'the done thing' as loads of people have more than 2 accounts even. It feels very ungamelike is what i'm trying to say.
of course it would only slash ccp's revenue by 103% and make the remaining -3% of players cancel. :rollyeyeballs:

The only thing that should reduce your insurance is your sec status.
The real nerf of 08 will be More Logistics Nightmares. We've only seen the tip of the iceburg with the Compression nerf that made transport ships useless, Carrier and Rorqual nerfs, 6b isk Jumphaulers, more POS management headaches...
The Amarr think they have it bad -- they don't have anything compared to the Industrialist.
CCP wants chaos, they'll get chaos. You'll see.

Why not get rid of insurance altogether, except for protecting newbies from doing something stupid?
My idea: only characters less than two months old can insure a ship. The ship stays insured as long as the insurance policy runs, but no new policies after that period.

Basically people in low-sec and 0.0 would actually "die" economicly, people would just kamikaze because they would feel the pain.In 0.0 it shouldnŠt even had insurence,IF you want to build empires you should be able to destroy them economilly and financlly.
Basically 0.0 would change and to a point low-sec too,but i donŠt see CCP doing the jump, because basically we are full off carebears now.

Edited by: Desh Craven on 27/12/2007 12:52:40 Thoughs from a new player regarding ship insurance.
A healthy economical system would ensure that there would be no need for insurance at < 0.5. If the gains can outweight the losses, then people would go to lowsecs, regardless of potentially losing their 150 ISK million ship along with it's 300 mil ISK upgrades.
ISK and items coming out from thin air in terms of insurances etc., doesn't increase the depth of the game experience from my point of view.
Insurance should be no more than a way for protecting noobsters like me in the Empire space, until i got the some hang of the game.
I just fail to see that capical ships should be taken for granted through the insurane systems free ISK. Well, equipment does cost i agree, but seeing the amount of battleships flying around, it obviously doesn't cost that much.
Would you accept a world of EVE where you could lose your 300 mil worth ship down to every last penny? But in a world where you could potentially earn so much ISK that you could sustain that kind of losses, and still make profit? I would. It would definetily bring more excitement to my gaming experience.
Insurances and too large monetary rewards from NPCs reduce player interaction, and make the game a solitaire. The way i see, EVE should be about going out there, earning the ISK and getting the satisfaction through "job well done".
I hear people saying that mining in lowsec isn't just smart, because of too much pirates. Should there be actually be ISK to be made in there, people would go there even without insurance. Economics in this game between Empire and < 0.5 systems apparently don't go properly in relation.

eum.. the only thing that can come out of this is that some players will leave 0.0 space beceause they will not risk exesive costs for fielding some of the more expencive ships.
this will not apply to everyone in 0.0 space but it will effect the number of people there in general..
it's much better actualy having the curent system due to the fact that it encurages people to actualy risk their ship more than they otherwise might have dared to.
and if they realy like an advanture they should take a T2 ship. more risk but if handled correctly much more effective against other players and thus more fun
