Hi guys,
I was solo camping a low-sec gate the other day. Without giving to much away, I was able to jump a solo freighter with no escort who had just jumped through the gate.
He was 15km from me. I locked him and put on a warp disrubtion point on him. I know the point was active - because I got the usual voice over "your security status has dropped.." followed by the sentry guns opening fire on me.
I was able to get him to 1/2 armor before he just disappeared. He did not warp off - and he did not jump through the gate (as he was 10km from it) and I was still 15km range from him. He just disappeared.
I also noticed another char log into the system a few seconds later, with a similar name.
For example - if the person I was attackign was called "MyAlter" - another char happen to appear called "MyAlta".
Does this mean he Ctrl+Q - then relogged on with another char to remove his ship from space? Is that a cheat, or valid tactic?

Yes.. basicly what he did was open his screen and got a toon on the same aacount logged on.I thought they shanged it so if u agrssed the ship... he would still be in space.. but maybe it has not changed.
Is it a exploit... not sure.Thought someone said yes.. but again i thought they sorted it so it didn't happen anymore.

He disappeared because you didn't put an aggression timer on him before he logged. It's not an exploit, but it is a bit lame.

I think the last time I checked that was an exploit CTRL + Q however has never been an expliot. But his ship should not have vanished for at least 15 mins and if you were shooting it, it would be reflagged and the timer would keep resetting as I understand it, so he either jumped through the gate or logged off and logged in another character |

Welcome to the wonderful world of completely legal logoffski. The logging off/on-thing is to make sure that upon his next connect, he enters game somewhere else. Hence, scanning him down while he's logged is virtually impossible.
Last week, a Deadspace Coalition dominix and raven did the same on my cruiser gang. Domi warped off in low armor. He then logged on/off 10-15 times to cover the whole distance of the system, all while being a smart@ss in local...
Week before that, three of their freighters - guarded by a few friggies - ran perfectly safe god knows how many jumps through Syndicate employing this method.
Here's an idea, CCP. Charge 30 cents for each log-on attempt subsequent to the first every hour - then open a bank in Moscow offering subsidized loans to eve players.
You'd make a killing, I guarantee you.

But he was half way through armor before he disappeared? I thought that meant he would be given 15mins?

So is that a confirmed exploit? Logging from one char to another to avoid dying? I got both char names, so I know CCP could check...?

Ain't gonna happen.
In the cases I described above, we petitioned repeatedly - even while the guy was logging on and off repeatedly, and the dev would have a chance to look into it while it was going down - and each and every response to those petitions was that logging on and off at any time of the game was completely legal.

You just have to get an agression timer on it before it logs off, so fit a sensor booster or bring a quick locking buddy.

I had a sensor booster, with targeting speed scripts - but guess that doesnt help much with a Battleship :)
So - what happens if they "log off" when they are still cloaked? i.e. freighter jumps through, see's a camp while he is still cloaked, CTRL+Q?

It won't work though if the guy loggs in another character to force his main to disappear, he should petition it regaurdless of how it was done and if the GM's check the logs and find foul play the sucker will get a shock and have his account banned. Exploiting is purely not acceptable, it ruins the enjoyment for others. |

CTRL + Q while cloaked after jumping makes your ship warp off and is unlockable, last time I camped a gate and someone logs off they just warp off you can't lock them. So unless they changed that, the guy had to have made his character vanish after you had engaged him. |

There is an easy fix, a logout timer, just make it 1 minute, that way you can log off to avoid being punished for being a fool, every other mmorpg has it, yet for some reason CCP wants to support the logoffski's

Wrong.
The freighter will warp, if you have 1000 points on him in 3 seconds flat, as long as he logs with cloak. The timer, however, will keep his ship in space for a good 15 minutes. In those 15 minutes, hes scannable and killable.
That's why the freighter pilot logs on shortly after. Upon logging on, his ship will warp from that place where his ship was emergency warped off to and back to the last spot he was in OR gave his ship the order to warp to before logging. Now, he's not to keen on landing on that gate again, so once the ship initiates warp (once he's back in), he logs off again.
Now, the next time he logs on, his ship is in an entirely new position. He then warps to the destination gate. First sign of trouble? He logs again. Rinse and repeat until he's on top of the gate.
Right, but you're wrong.
When a player logs off with no agression timer (as in no-one has shot them nor have they shot anyone in the last 15 minutes, including webs from friends etc...) they disappear after about 30 seconds. You can sometimes lock them and shoot them for the thirty seconds, but if they logged off before you shot at them, they disappear. It's interesting to note however, that if this pilot logs back on in 15 min he has a new 15 minute timer and if he logs off again he WILL stay in space for 15 minutes.
Sometimes, but not always logging on then off again immediately will change where you go when you log back on. this isnt always the case, but doing so several times makes it highly unlikely that someone will log back on where they logged off. Although to be honest.. anyone with half decent probe skills would catch you doing this :)
In short:
Shoot them while logged on and they log off= 15 minutes to probe and/or kill shoot them after they log off = 30seconds to kill HOWEVER if they log on within 15 min of that initial log offski IF YOU SHOT THEM before their ship vanished= 15 min to probe and/or kill IF THEY LOG BACK ON!
And yes logoffski's are no fun. ---- VHI - We Haul Your Cargo For Free ---- We Miss you Red 7. |

He logged out before he uncloaked so no aggro timer, he will vanish in 2 minutes, no exploit, just perfectly legal use of game mechanics, doing this for the specific purpose of saving ingame assets is legal.

When they log while holding the cloak from the gate - which is what they need to do in order for it to work properly - the emergency warp takes place in +-1 minute of the player logging off... and it isn't really a warp per se. The ship just vanishes into thin air.
If the character is aggressed during the time his ship hovers, the afforementioned 15 minute timer will initiate, as well as the process you describe. However, once he starts the process of logging in and out, there is nothing you can do that will keep him in place, since his ship is in a constant state of motion.

Just to keep the thread on topic - in this particular case - he had already uncloaked and had begun aligning.
I was not 'sitting' on the gate - I actually warped to the gate. So he would have seen me flying in, and hit CTRL+Q before I had a chance to lock.

He also could have logged before you agressed him (wich was the main point of my post)
So the be clear "he logged before anyone agressed him"
Using this method to save your assets is legal.

Ummm... no.
My original post described what occured (I jumped him, locked, warp scrambled, got him to armor, he disappeared).
My post above is what I have concluded occured, given the posts of everyone above (which have constructively helped, unlike your post).
