I have a 4200x2, 4gb mem, vista64, 8800gt and 1 is fine as, 2 and the game grinds to a halt.
I can force 12xaa on one client no problems (110 fps,in station, 70 in space), two clients with no aa the comp ****s a brick :S
Im running a 5000+ X2, MSI K9N Ultra (nForce 570) 4x 1GB of Corsair DDR-800 (@775MHz due to cpu clock) Nvidia 7900GS 512MB, Hitachi 7200rpm 16mb Cache SATA II HD, and Creative SB X-treme, OS is Vista home premium, My system is well cooled with 2x 140mm fans front and rear with 2x 120mm side ducts.
With HDR off Shadows on normal and cache set to extreme (uses about 1GB per client) it can run 2 clients with 4x AA very smoothly except sometimes for crowded gates, single client runs fine. I really dont know what the problem is for some people my systems getting old now but it cuts the mustard yet it struggles with Crysis it must be some weird driver and setup conflicts people are getting.

I just switched back, not because of performance reasons but because my map kept bugging (staying black or grey at times, especially when you REALLY can't use it).
I must say, some of the newer models are worse than the old ones we were used to.

Premium client keeps giving me blue.dll crashes around stations & stargates, and I have given up on trying voodoo rituals of tweaking random & esoteric audo-visual settings in vain attempts to fix this. I've got a 3.01 GHz AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core processor. I've got 4 GB of RAM (XP only leaves about 3 GB free for use). I've got two 320 MB NVidia 8800 GTS cards, connected via SLI bridge. The drivers are up to date as of a week ago.
My DirectX is updated to the latest version.
I'm using Premium Trinity graphics, with shadows set to normal, bloom set to max, resolution set to 1400 x 1050, audio hardware accel. turned off, cache set to low (I purge it regularly), and color depth / present interval / all that other miscellaneous stuff set to the best setting.
I disabled Data Execution Protection for the EVE client. I only ever run Firefox, EFT, and EVEMon in the background (all other applications and unneeded processes are closed), and I don't run more than one client at a time, at least not yet (when I do, I'll use my girlfriend's PC, a Macintosh she barely ever uses).
And yet, despite this, I still get some "lag" in busy scenes. Lots of asteroids and enemies in a deadspace pocket means my FPS drops from 140 (where it usually is) to 20-25. Heck, even in systems with just a few people fighting outside a station and 30 people in local, I get a FPS hit.
My computer can run BioShock with every setting cranked up to the absolute maximum, with a constant frame rate of 50-60 FPS.
This "lag" is a stability and optimization issue, and I really think CCP needs to get it fixed ASAP.
EDIT: Forgot to add, I have a liquid cooling system, plus two fans, and it's winter here, so the house stays at 65 degrees F.

Well, unfortunantly that's what causes most lag, a poor graphics card. The other part is just a bad system. Then it would be poor internet connection.
Uhm. Lag is short for Latency, which is;
"In a network, latency, a synonym for delay, is an expression of how much time it takes for a packet of data to get from one designated point to another."
That has nothing to do with FPS...at all. 族---族

FPS drops (huge) in multiple accounts made me switch back to classic.
Still waiting for some fix, since this issue is well known by the Dev team, as you can see here.

Edited by: Andrue on 12/01/2008 11:42:51 I have no problems most of the time (AMD64x2 4000+; NVidia 7900GS) but I have noticed that cloud affects drop the framerate quite dramatically. I typically run between 50fps and 120fps but cloud effects can drop me down below 20fs.
What's more intriguing is that the UI becomes quite sluggish which is odd. Even the mouse cursor becomes laggy. Still playable but it really hurts the machine until I swing the camera view away. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

We have different kinds of "LAG" in EVE:
1) When the client is fed with a lot of data it freezes because of "block code", the client can't multithread incoming data, so it can't work on several stuff at the same time, so it halts the client down.
2) When the client is fed with a lot of items on screen it slows down because of poor graphic processing. We can see this by how some effects combined with others bring the client on its knees.
3) Server lag.
and last we have
4) Normal network latency.
Ever noticed how some systems make your client freeze for a couple of sec every 20 sec? Very annoying.

Turning off Data Execution Protection for EVE totally fixed this problem for me, haven't had any of it in the two weeks since.

My current system:
Intel Core2 Duo X6800 2GB Ram PC6400C4 800MHz DDR2 GeForce 8800GTX
With two clients on seperate HDDs and set to use local settings only (/end /LUA:OFF added to each shortcuts target path).
So far I've been pleasantly surprised to find the premium graphics work perfectly on both accounts with a nice smooth FPS (I run them with HDR disabled and Shadows on Normal. Cache size is set to high.

Edited by: Mannakin on 12/01/2008 14:57:20 I can run 2 premium clients on my main PC dual-core and 8800GTS, but its not particularly stable. It's fine running one.
My laptop is dual-core, 2Gb mem, Ati mobility X1400 (which should support premium). I have to run classic on this machine as the premium doesn't work. However if I run two classic, I start to get graphics glitches that require me to end both sessions.
I've seen various post where people tweak this and change that and download nHancer and change the profile, BUT the client should work straight out of the box without all this messing around.
Oh btw, I usually run on low or no cache.

Got classic installed just in case premium ends up being too laggy for pvp ever.

Originally by: Victor Ivanov I used premium the first few weeks when it came out. It worked quite nicely, no lag, looks beautiful etc.
However, ever since the first Trinity patch, I have been getting the oddest glitches, from the entire station interior breaking down into tiny triangles, to my ship being elongated into infinity when undocked and flying around, and a whole bunch of other graphical glitches.
Seeing as how I can't think of anything that I could have done to cause this (Same old stable graphics drivers, no windows updates, no new programs installed.. In fact, I've done very little with my comp lately.. O_o), I've decided to switch back to Classic for now. :)
That, and fleet fights are absolutely horrid with premium. Anything over 100 people in local, and the entire thing just becomes a slide show as if I was running EvE on a pentium I. O_o
your video card is about to die. if it is still under warranty, it would be a good idea to check the heat levels when eve premium is running.
eve premium is probably THE best way to stress test a system these days.. it will send your video card to a hell it never knew existed. and if your card is not ready for it ie good heatsink/clean vents, then it will fry.
if your psu is not up to powering it, then you may get one or more of many other things such as-
blue screen, hard lock, reset itself, quit out of the program, give you graphical errors such as artifacts (from an overheating video card), over heat your mainboard chipset and so on.
ccp wanted all our cpu, now they have all our cpu AND gpu madly doing things that dont need to be done.
oh and btw the classic version of eve probably shows no problem for you because it doesnt drive the video card very hard at all. the cpu yes, card no. premium is both.
best way to test is download either rivatuner or atitool and check the gpu temperature under load. eg atitool has a scan for articacts button, press it and see if any appear. if they do, you have problems, if they dont, then check your psu.

while I have not been in any fleet battles I have had no lag with premium and I have ran both of my accounts at once ( I really can't wait till I can afford another monitor ). I run classic on my wifes laptop, but her's can barely handle eve to begine with, it frezzes up after a couple of minutes.
SLI tech FTW!!!! I run two gforce 7600GT cards on mine, maybe it is the duel-core processor that helps. **--------**--------------** While blood, carnage, and distruction may be my "happy place" that is nothing like the feeling I get while hauling 2 mill isk in goods thru low sec. |

I did switch back a good hour ago. Not because my PC can't handle the Premium settings, but because some of the sounds are not working correctly.
Ship Engine sound doesn't work, turret sound does not work, target sound does not work and the pheew sound a stargate makes, does not work.
So I was forced to disable the Premium Content, and now everything works again.
A real shame because Premium sure does look awsome :(
